We were recommended by our friend to try the St. Louis Pork Ribs here. It was said to resemble the pork ribs from the famous Naughty Nuri's Warung in Bali, Indonesia. The style, maybe yes; the taste, still a far cry from the char-grilled ribs from Naughty Nuri's Warung. That said, we like how the sambal matah complemented the ribs.

I didn't know that this place is actually famous for their coffee. Apparently the owner, Keith Ong, was awarded the best barista in the Singapore National Barista Championships 2010. The coffee I ordered here was chilli chocolate mocha, it is one of their competition coffee. I like how they blend the strong and bold ristretto with fresh chilli juice. There is only one word to describe it - shiok!

I will be back, for sure! Smile Jan 10, 2014

I always love Malaysia food, so flavorful and full of variety. When Malaysia Food Street opened at the Resort World Sentosa, I went, but it was too far for me. Now that there is another Malaysia food place opened at West, I will certainly be back for more!

This is Penang Fried Kway Teow. The queue was always very long, but today, we made up our mind to try it no matter what. Since we had queued for so long, we ordered the biggest portion. tongue There is no 'ham', but lots of tauge and prawns.

This is Malaysia version of Hokkien Mee, thick noodle was used, and the noodle was stir fried in dark sauce, with lots of lard. It was very fragrant, but certainly not for the health conscious one...

Lastly, chicken rice, ordered by a friend so didn't get to try it. The chicken looks tender though.

The place was always crowded, so be prepared to wait for at least 5-10 minutes for your seat. There is no high chair provided too.

Nice cake Smile Mar 24, 2014

We ordered a cake to celebrate dm's birthday. I asked for a cake with less cream and the staff recommended me this chocolate hazelnut cake ($37.8 per kg). I have to admit that I was rather skeptical at first because this cake looks rather simple. It looks elegant, but not as 'delightful' as other fruit cake.

However, I was pleasantly surprise after taken a bite of it. The cake was soft, and rich in Nutella taste which I love. The amount of cream was just right, the first time everyone finished the cake without throwing away the cream!

My favorite katsu spot Smile Mar 02, 2014

Saboten rolled up breakfast menu which they serve until 11am. This chicken katsu sandwhich ($9.9) was part of the breakfast menu. Refreshing shredded cabbage and crispy katsu were sandwiched between two slices of soft white bread.

This Irodori combo meal ($28) was interesting, you get to choose a combination of katsu that goes into your plate. My choice was: main dish - mentai tenderloin, sub-side dish - asparagus cheese roll, side-dishes - ratatouille katsu and mini cheese katsu. Among these, my personal favorite was the ratatouille one. Yum yum.

This was Irodori curry ($23). The breadcrumbs outside the katsu was fried to perfect crisp while the meat remained tender juicy in the inside. The curry gravy was fine. I am a spicy food lover so this sweet curry barely tickled our tongues. It tasted good nonetheless.

The shredded cabbage was served free flow. It can be enjoyed with yuzu dressing or sesame dressing. We love shredded cabbage, and it is not surprising if you see any one of us alone finishing off this gigantic bowl of cabbage. It was so refreshing, especially after eating the katsu, it kind of cleansed our tongue from the oiliness.

My verdict? I think the food tasted great, I won't hesitate to come back for their wonderful katsu. However, service-wise, we thought there are still rooms for improvement.

Most Peppery Bak Kut Teh in town! Smile Jan 14, 2014

Categories : Chinese | Food Court | Bak Kut Teh

This is Signature Spare & Pork Ribs Combo Soup ($8) from Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh . It used to be a family-run business, subsequently bought over by Jumbo group and was expanded to the current size. They are well known for their strong peppery soup base which entice many diners to return. The pork ribs were well cooked but still retaining the firm texture. We dipped the pork ribs in dark soy sauce with chilli. Another dish frequently accompanies the soup was you tiao ($2.5). This was an average you tiao, no longer crispy and nothing to rave about.
