Laksa @ 2am Smile Oct 13, 2014

Waking up in the middle of the night & just felt a huge craving for noodles?!
Aha! We don't have to travel all the way to the other faraway night joints anymore!

Found this stall in our neighborhood that serve just that!
Noodles like…Laksa 叻沙, Small Pot Noodles 小锅面, Bak Chor Mee 肉脞面 & Fish Ball Noodles 鱼圆面…are available 24/7 here!
This stall opens 24 hours, same as the coffee shop & the neighborhood supermarket, NTUC.

The night operator is just as polite & efficient as the day staff…giving a warm smile at all times & exchanges caring words once in a while.

All ingredients tasted just as nice & the veggies are just as fresh as those sold during the day.

Takeaways are also available with no extra charges! Hope it continues to operate 24 hours so we can shop-shop & eat-eat (买东西吃东西) in the cool of night…

Verdict:  chopstick chopstick chopstick
Ok…back to eating my Yummylicious Laksa…slurp.

A Sanctuary for Nice Quiet Meal Smile Sep 14, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Bakery | Café

This is the place to be for a quiet & relax Sunday afternoon.

There's no pipe-in music, customers chatted softly & staff just go about their business quietly. The seatings are well spaced & made complete with comfortably sized marble tables.
It's almost like having our meal in a library without the shelves of books…

The kitchen only serve vegetarian food on weekends.
We ordered 2 plates of Hor Fun ($4 each), a Mock Chicken Pie ($1.50), a Mushroom Pie ($1.50), 2 cups of White Coffee ($1 each) & a cup of Teh-O ($1, refillable with hot water).

Everything is self service here, even for the payment…just drop the amount into the Donation Box.

The plates of Hor Fun were of rather big portion, filled with a good variety of veggies & mushrooms. It's a refreshing change to those heavily seasoned, non-vegetarian Hor Fun.

The Mock Chicken Pie was filled with stewed potato & mock chicken. It tasted like those non-vegetarian Chicken Pie although there's more potato than mock meat.

The Mushroom Pie is definitely a Must-Try Item!
It's packed with delicious, juicy sliced Shiitake Mushrooms.
Very satisfying.

We liked the crust of their pies very much. It's a mixture between the base of cheesecake & the crumbles on an apple pie. A little dry but very buttery. It goes really well with our hot beverages.

Verdict: chopstickchopstickchopstick

A sanctuary for nice quiet meal.

Big Screen & Huge Ceiling Fans

Big Screen & Huge Ceiling Fans

K.Cook Korean BBQ Buffet restaurant has a very practical setting. The high ceiling enabled it to be equipped with a big screen & the huge commercial fans reminded me of those in the MRT stations.
The gangway was very narrow, there's only enough walking space for one person at any one time between the tables.
It is uncommon to see an establishment (in this upscale town area) spotting different tables & chairs. The whole look is chaotic & rather unsettling for me. Perhaps the owner has not decided on a fixed design or it's just that all the different furniture are just too comfortable to be left out.
lol
Flavorful

Flavorful

Anyway, we were very fortunate to be seated at a corner table next to the counters, in the air-conditioned area.
Very tempted to just hand over all the plates of food.
Better to weave through the congested walkway as hands-free as possible.

Hotplate & Small Drip Bowl

Hotplate & Small Drip Bowl

Each table was fitted with a very big BBQ Gas Hotplate & a small stainless steel drip bowl (for excess oil/charred pieces from the Hotplate).
There was hardly any space left for other dishes.
All the instruction on the Hotplate were in Korean, it's very unique.
Perhaps they're specially imported as we've not seen them in the market before.

Beautiful Sujeo

Beautiful Sujeo

We proceeded to pick up the Sujeo at the self-service counters.
There were 2 baskets, 1 filled with the common stainless-steel Sujeo while the other is of copper (presumably, as they're slightly heavier).
I've also noticed that some were delicately engraved with flower designs, even on the mouth piece of the spoon.
I liked this detail.
smile
Fresh & Crunchy

Fresh & Crunchy

Although this is clearly a meat-eater's paradise, I'd expected it to have more than just the common local lettuce...to compliment the 10 types of meat served here.
Some similar restaurants in the Heartlands are already serving Romaine, Butterheads & Iceberg.
Quite Disappointing...
sad

The Bulgogi Beef was flavorful & tender, very delicious...

We liked this Spring Onion Kimchi very much.
It's crunchy, refreshing & the sourness just opened up our appetite, salivating...

Springy & gratifying

I like to eat BBQ Seafood but they only serve 2 types of seafood, prawns & squid rings.
These squid rings were relatively large in size & tasted very springy.
Perhaps because they were always kept in containers filled with ice.
Very gratifying...
Well-seasoned, yummy!

Well-seasoned, yummy!

The 10 types of marinated raw meat were thick & needed a little longer to cook.
I liked to eat the Beef Bulgogi, Hot Sauce Chicken & Pork Belly very much.
The beef & chicken were well-seasoned while the Pork Belly was lean but not tough.
Very delectable...
smile

Everything had to be self-service here.
Wished they'd also let us clear our used dishes on our own as the staff were a little slow with collecting them.
Maybe they were short-handed because tonight was extremely crowded.
They were kept very busy with refilling the food stations & mopping up the water seepage from the Ice & Drink Station (next to our table).
The Soup pots were empty tonight.
Eventually, they'd stopped refilling the Seafood containers.

I barely had time to try the salad & fruit station.
In fact, our group was ready to leave when I was just about to get a drink.
shocked

Verdict: chopstick chopstick

It's considered quite reasonable to charge nearly $30 per person in an uptown joint like this.

Personally, I will not travel so far.

*** Did you know (source:wikipedia)***

Sujeo (수저) is the Korean word for the set of eating utensils commonly used to eat Korean scuisine. The word is a portmanteau of the words sutgarak (숟가락, "spoon") and jeotgarak (젓가락, "chopsticks").
{A common reference to the Korean Chopsticks & Spoon.}

Bulgogi (Korean pronunciation: [pulɡoɡi]; Korean: 불고기) is a Korean dish that usually consists of grilled marinated beef.

Shiok! Smile Aug 20, 2014

Visited White Sands Mall with Hubby & was surprised to find that the Food Court on the 3rd floor was closed for renovation. shocked

The price for the other cooked food cafe, outlets or restaurants were scarily expensive in the Mall. For instance, a set meal of Bak Chor Mee or Hor Fun with a drink costs approximately S$8...which cost less than $6 at any Foodcourt.
This is ridiculous!
sad

So we ventured out of the Mall to get some decent priced hot food.

It was our first time eating here at Ananas Cafe.
At first glance, there were only 2 queues. 1 for the Nasi Lemak Section & the other for the Chicken Rice & Noodles Section. Then the Chicken Rice stall operator requested us to form another queue when the line started to get a little too long. I was very glad that he did that as my queue had suddenly reduced to only 2 people, just the person in front & me! lol

While waiting, I took a closer look at the menu on the wall & was spoiled for choices. My healthy diet plan just gone down the drain as soon as I saw there was about 2 bowls' worth of Laksa gravy left in the pot! How lucky could I get?!
Resistance was Futile!
Yum-yum...
tongue

Shiok!

Shiok!

It was a big, decent bowl of Thin Bee Hoon Laksa ($3.50). The Bee Hoon had started to absorb the gravy by the time I sat down with my hubby. Mmm...
The Bee Hoon was soft & was filled with the fragrance of the spices of the Laksa gravy.
The cockles were scalded to perfection in Q-ness.
There were plenty of crunchy been sprouts & the Laksa leaves...my favorites!
The slices of fishcakes tasted springy.
The half piece of hard-boiled egg was not hard & dry at all...infact, the yolk tasted marvelous after absorbing the Laksa gravy...I'm salivating...
The chili paste was fine, smooth & spicier than its look...sweats just kept dripping down my face...
The thickness & fragrance of the gravy is to die for...
One word...  "SHIOK!"
Sedap!

Sedap!

Hubby said his Mee Rebus ($3) was just as robust!
Looking at the droplets of sweat on his face, I totally agreed with him.

Verdict: chopstickchopstickchopstick

Tips: Remember to bring lots of tissues. lol

For sure we'll be back for more.

Halal Char Kuay Teow Smile Aug 19, 2014
Categories : Fusion | Food Court | Halal

Hubby like to come here for lunch as there's more diversity.

Bagus is a Foodcourt that sells typical Singaporean Chinese Hawker Food that's all Halal.
smile

It has since joined Kopitiam, so we can use the card to buy food & gets 10% discounts on all purchases…
smile

I ordered the Char Kuay Teow (*$4.05) from Local Delights while hubby preferred the Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Sauce (*$4.50) from Pot & Pan.
tongue

I requested for more veggies. Yet, the cook didn't skim on the other ingredients!
So nice…
smile

The dish was really yummy!
As good as the Chinese version although there's no pork & no lard.
smile

It was a delightful meal for me while hubby was a little disappointed as the Grilled Chicken was merely reheated.
sad

Verdict: chopstickchopstickchopstick

* Tips: Use their card…

We will be back to try other dishes.
