Thai Accent ( Telok Blangah )

Was recommended by many of my colleagues, I decided to bring my wife and in-laws there for dinner to "score" some points tongue

And in the end, I won the world cup lol

The ambience is good and the service is excellent.

For 5 people, we ordered

Tom Yam Seafood Soup - S$9.90
Crispy Garoupa with Thai Chilli Sauce - S$28.90
Pandan Leaf Chicken(4pcs) - S$12.90

The much-heard-of TOM YAM seafood soup and its heavenly. The soup is fresh, sour and spicy all at one go. Not for the faint-hearted, pls. One sip and you will be knocked out just to get up again and ask for more.
Garoupa is served in thai style with ample toppings. The fish is fresh and so crispy that we actually ate the bones. Wonder if we are suppose to do that.

Not a chicken fan but the big chuck of chicken meat grilled in pandan leaf makes it fragrant on the outside and soft on the inside.

No space for desserts anymore but will definitely come back for them!

Great place for food and wine
Smile 2010-08-01

Wine Garage ( Clarke Quay )
Was there after work with good company. Good place to chill out and grab after work drinks and pair it with decadent food. Decor and ambience was modern and chic after the renovation. Having recently revamped their menu, I tried the following dishes:

1) Wagyu Beef Rump - S$36
Presentation was pleasant. The two thick pieces of beef are 75% cooked even though it is pinkish on the inside. It is soft and tender and the juice ooz out after every bite. Definiely one of the best beef steak I have ever had. The mushroom not only makes the dish look beautiful, it also compliments with the meat. You should try this if you are a beef lover.

2) Mini Wagyu n Foie burger - S22
Comes in three mini wagyu beef burgers, the beef is just as good as the beef rump. So good that one mouthful and its all gone in a count of three. The foie's distinct taste gave these bite size burgers a unique edge. Excellent for starters.

3) Smoked Ocean Trout Blinis - S14
The mini cheese pancake with caviar toppings was delicate. Mini-pancake is soft and fresh while the caviar provides a refreshing taste that delights my palate. I like how the chef played with texture.

Service was prompt and pricing is reasonable for the generous servings here. Will be back.

Ma-Po Pork
Smile 2010-08-01

Dian Xiao Er ( Woodlands )

Tried another branch this time and we ordered

1) Dong Po Pork - S$12.50
2) Ma-Po Tou Fu - S$8.80
3) Stir-Fried Lotus with Macadamia Nuts - S$10.80

The Dong Po pork is sweet and soft. Very addictive and goes well with white rice. Except is a little too small for the two of us.

Ma-Po You Fu is a little too spicy for me but wifey loves it as the tou fu is soft.

I like the Stir-Fried Lotus as it is plain, fresh and light. Good for people who likes light food. The fresh lotus goes well with the celery and macadamia nuts

Dim Sum
Smile 2010-11-14

Mayim Chinese Cuisine ( Bukit Batok District )

Could get up early for dim sum?
Have not fear, Mayim is here.
Do you know Mayim actually serves Cantonese Dim Sum til 5pm everyday.
Who says dim sum is only for breakfast?

Since wifey has been insisting I owe her Lor Mai Kai and Siew Mai (both her fave) for the past 2 weeks, I decided to repay my debts by bringing her to Mayim.
We ordered Siew Mai(of coz) ($2.20), ShangHai Xiao Long Bao($2.20) and my fave Steamed BBQ Chicken Bun($2.20). A pity they do not serve Lor Mai Kai.

The Siew Mai is fresh delicious. First bite and you will be able to taste the solid pork filling. The second bite you will feel satisified and happy. Wifey had many second bites to satisify her needs.

The Xiao Long Bao is nice in general and comparable to the one in Crystal Jade. But the skin is softer and tends to break while we try to scope them out of the basket.

My fave Chicken Bun. Fresh, hot and juicy. I hate those which is hard and dry inside. The buns here are juicy and big. You can taste the tender char siew too.

I will definitey come back again to satisfy wifey needs.

Best Chicken Rice in SG
Smile 2010-09-13

Boon Tong Kee ( Balestier )

If you looking for a good chicken place at affordable price, Boon Tong Kee is the answer.

Not considering having to wait 15 mins for a table, the staffs are able to provide good service, good food recommendations and they know their stuff.

A must-have is the white, silky, steamed chicken.
The is so tender and silk that it slips down my throat. Most importantly, it is fragrant and nice. Goes very well with the fragrant chicken rice bowl

We also ordered the Claypot Toufu. The toufu is soft on the inside and hard on the outside. The sauce is thick and tasty. smile I love it.

Thai Dessert
Smile 2010-07-21 (Related Review)

Thai Accent ( Telok Blangah )
We are back, with vengeance this time. Just me and my greedy wifey.

After not being able to try the dessert, we decided to do it for our high-tea. And we ordered

Mango Sticky Rice – S$6.90
Tapioca with Coconut Milk – S$5.90
Mango Sticky Rice is a great dessert to end of the dinner. But always rem to ask the waiter if the mango is sweet or not. If it is not, they will alway let you know and recommend other desserts instead.

We also ordered the Tapioca in coconut milk. The tapioca is just the right texture. Neither too soft nor too hard. But you got to dip it in the coconut milk to get the best combo. I knew I have "won" it AGAIN. lol

Great Pizza
Smile 2010-11-21

1-Caramel ( Dhoby Ghaut )

Tried their Smoke Salmon Pizza and it is indeed worth it.
With a thin, crispy crust, it is a little sweet from the cheesey base but the big chucky slice of smoke salmon made my day! I am a sucker for fresh, well-prepared salmon.

The taste is unusual and unique. My wifey loves it.!

Quality Japanese Food but pricey
Smile 2010-08-22

Shin Yuu Japanese Restaurant ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )
Looking for quality japanese buffet?
Shin Yuu is the answer at a expensive price of S$49++

Was there with colleagues for a celebration, we ordered so many till I forgot what we had after the dinner! And if you have more that 10 diners, you can request for a private room!

Picking a few of the many good ones, the Ebi Tempura is one of my top fave.
Fresh prawns being one thing, the layer of deep-fried flour is light and not-so-oily, making the Ebi Tempura appetizing. Comes in a plate of 6.

Chawanmushi is another of my personal fave. Filled with little mushrooms and topped with fish roe, it is soft and tasty. The egg is not too dense making us not sick of it. Thisis very important, especially if you are going for the buffet.

I will return with the next post when I gather more photos. =)

In summary, this place has good quality japanese food even though you do not have much variety.

Great Jap Food
Smile 2010-11-21

Ebi Boshi Shotengai ( Bugis )

Was there for lunch and tried the Unagi Rice.
It is a very unique "Japanese Claypot rice"
They will cook only when ordered and it takes at least 20 minutes to be ready. Hence it is definitely not for the hungry customers. But the rice is very well done, with just enough water to gives it a nice texture.

The Hokke FIsh has a very fishy smell. Luckily, it has a lemon to ward off the fish smell. Other than that, it is actually a very tasty big fish. Well grilled, you can taste the freshness without the fishy smell. tongue

Great Sichuan Food
Smile 2010-08-01

Dian Xiao Er ( Choa Chu Kang )

First time there and it was much better than expected.

We ordered

1) Ten Wonder Duck(medium) - S$23.80
2) Chinese Wine Mushroom(small) - S$10.80

The duck is cooked in lot of herbs, creating a strong yet nice herby smell. The duck meat is tender with the skin yet being crispy at the same time. Eating it is very addictive and makes us crave for more.

The Mushroom is another popular dish. Being a personal favourite of chinese wine chicken, this is the first time I have seen it cooked with mushrooms. The chinese wine makes it fragrant and delicious.

However the price is slightly steep as compared to others

I will definitely come back for more.

Thai Accent ( Telok Blangah )

While shopping at vivocity, we do not know what to eat for lunch. After going through the directory, we still ended up at Thai Accent =p
Just the both of us, we ordered
Tom Yam(again) – S$9.90
Baked Honey Pork Ribs - S$14.90
Mango Salad with Cashew Nuts - S$9.90

Baked Honey Pork Ribs is another all-time fave for me. Nicely baked in honey and the meat is so soft, one lick and it will melt off from the bone and slip down my throat! Its a waste that everytime I fail to mouth the meat longer just to get the fragrant last! lol
The Mango Salald is too sour for my liking. But it’s a hit for my wifey. The thai sauce in the veg salad create a pungent strong enough to ward off all spirits. Lol. For sour fans, you can give this a try =)

Crystal Jade My Bread ( Bishan )

Did not expect to taste jap food in a chinese restaurant.
I ordered the Black Pepper Udon to share with wifey.
It is spicy and the sauce goes pretty well with the udon. However the chicken taste normal as they are cooked before being mixed with the pepper sauce. I like the huge slices of onion.

We also had the Gui Ling Gao and Aloevera dessert.
The Gui Ling Gao is smooth and not so sweet. Not really a fan as I prefer sweet desserts.

The Aloevera is light and nourishing. You can feel and taste the little Aloevera going down your throat. I like the sweet wolfberries. lol

Oriental Food at reasonable price
Smile 2010-09-10

Yan Palace Restaurant ( Choa Chu Kang )

Have there often but this is the first review I have for them.
It was parent's birthday tongue

We have the family fave Beijing Duck, Claypot Toufu, Sweet Sour Pork and Vegetable Mushroom.

The Beijing Duck is a MUST-TRY. Skin is thin and crispy. The sauce and chili for the wrap is thick and fragrant. Excellent.
For the duck meat, we got them to stir-fry with ginger and spring onion. It is tasty due to the oyster sauce used in frying and you can taste the juicy duck meat.

However, the claypot Toufu is a little disappointing as it taste like those from the coffeeshop. It is filled with lettuce, make me wonder if I am paying the right price.

The Sweet Sour Pork is another family's fave.Crispy boneless pork meat fried in sour and sweet sauce. You will be able to taste the distinct sauce and makes the pork super juicy. Nice! smile

The Mushroom Vegetable is also unique coz its oyster sauce is fragrant plus you will be able to taste the mushroom freshness as they are not over-cooked.

Great Set Meals
Smile 2010-09-05

Dian Xiao Er ( Boon Lay )

Imagine S$38 for two pax with 4 dishes.
And all of them comes in generous portions, leaving us thinking that the set meal is good for 3 pax instead.

For S$38, you will get

1) Two bowls of rice
2) Herb duck
3) Baby Kai Lan
4) Mongolian Pork Ribs
5) Lotus Soup

Other than the all time fave Herb Duck, the Mongolian Porks Ribs is also very unique. A little peppery and spicy, the crispy ribs is very appetizing.

The Baby Kai Lan has a very distinct soury taste and goes wwell with the white rice.

The Lotus Soup comes with ribs inside and it is very tasty. You can really feel the nutrients inside the soup. You'll know that the soup has been boiled for long period of time.

However, we ended up paying much more for a small plate of peanuts(S$2) and wet towl(S$0.30) and Chinese Tea(S$1.50). I recommend rejecting the peanuts and just stick to plain water.

Old School Delicious Chicken Rice
Smile 2010-07-24

Yet Con Chicken Rice & Restaurant ( Bugis )

Was recommended by a friend of mine, wifey and I decided to try it out.

The chicken comes in half or one whole chicken. Go for the white-skin chicken was its the top choice. The meat is tender, but most importantly, the skin is smooth and silky.

Try the Fu Rong Egg. It is a mix of fried egg with vegetables. It is very delicious when served hot but depending on the mood of the cooks, I was sometimes given wet fu rong egg which is not nice.

Rem to ask for their free chicken soup to go with your meal.

They also do serve steamboats for those into hotpots.

Their price is very reasonable and there will alway be this old man at the couonter using abacus to calculate your bill. How old school is that?
