Fishball Meepok...sweet?? Smile Apr 12, 2013

Fishball Meepok

Fishball Meepok

This was my body fuel after a super long run! MEEPOK!! Haha! tongue

The stall owners used to be located at the A/C side, just adjacent to this coffeeshop. After the renovation of that side, they moved here. I recalled when they 1st started, the owner used to experiment with different side ingredients for his noodles such as imitation scallop, and they used to have fantastic Laksa (I just remembered! mad). I always loved "da-baoing" this dish, as by the time I reach home, the noodles would have "grown"! Hahaha! tongue

Since their relocation here, I've never patronised them until today. And I'd say they're still doing pretty decent! lol The Fishball Meepok has lots of minced pork and even has a fried wanton (pardon me for poor pic!). However, what was queer was that the Meepok actually tasted a little sweet! It somewhat differed from the usual chilli oil/ vinegar style. Can't really say I like/ dislike it, but since there are so many side ingredients accompanying it, I'D PASS IT!! Hahahaha! tongue

Total Cost:
Fishball Meepok - $2-$4

Green Tea Tiramisu in Chocolate Cup

Had dinner at this restaurant. My bro said he had received some vouchers from Army that could be used here. Well, since he is a Japanese food fan and always return to eat here, I suppose the food here can be considered decent. smile

I ordered Tempura Mori this time round. Japanese food has always been challenging for me since I do not fancy raw food. And most sets would include raw fish as sides. The Tempura dish was decent and the serving was sufficient for me, since I had upgraded to a value set meal to include rice, chawanmushi, miso soup & fruit at an additional cost of $6.90. No shout. smile

My brother ordered the Green Tea Tiramisu in Chocolate Cup as dessert and since it looked so pretty, I had to try it! tongue No turning back, it was heavenly!! mad The green tea dust balanced the sweetness of the dessert with its bitterness and as I recall my devouring of that chocolate cup then, makes me salivate instantly! tongue It's a MUST to order this dessert!!! lol Mind you, chipping/ breaking that chocolate cup wasn't easy as it did not break easily! Even if I had to do mining with it, I would!!! tongue

Total Cost:
Tempura Mori w Value Set B - $19.40
Green Tea Tiramisu in Chocolate Cup - $6.80

Cheap & Good Breakfast Beehoon Smile Apr 12, 2013

Fried Beehoon

Fried Beehoon

This little stall is hard to discover as its main competitor (with a long queue) is located adjacent to it, at the A/C side. I used to frequent the other stall (it's got really tasty fried chicken wings) regularly for breakfast, but it gradually under-delivered its beehoon both in terms of quantity and quality! sad

Hence, I went in search of other beehoon stalls for my breakfast fix and chanced upon this stall! Never knew its existence! And boy, am I glad to discover it! lol

The beehoon was soft, unlike its competitor whose beehoon started to taste like rubber bands! The chilli was decent - not overly spicy and has a tinge of sweetness to it! lol I ordered sides of cabbage and fish fillet. For once, there was no insecticide taste in the cabbage (my fear in ordering this side dish!). Price was also cheap! tongue

I'd rate this beehoon stall No. 2 for now, since there is a better one near Marsiling MRT. Will definitely return! lol

Fried Beehoon w Cabbage & Fish Fillet - $2-$3

12 Hour Slow-Cooked Pork Belly

12 Hour Slow-Cooked Pork Belly

After reading an online review testifying that this restaurant offers mammoth servings, I made a reservation instantly to celebrate my colleagues' promotions. And what a HUGE disappointment it turned out to be! huffy

With "hindsight" that they served "mammoth servings", we decided to do away with group servings, and ordered individual servings instead. My goodness! How pathetic they looked when the food arrived! sad

First off, it was the Mohamed Sultan Meter Dog dish that was highly raved about. My colleague ordered an individual serving and when it arrived, I can't tell the difference between that and those served at a hot dog stand (you can purchase a few more buns for the latter at the same price you pay for the former! shocked). It's just a normal hot dog bun, that came with salad! Imagine paying heftily for a group portion - it'll simply be normal food x 4 or 5! Waste of money! sad

The Australian Angus Burger (only saving grace) was served next, and thankfully it was served in a decent portion. This was quickly followed by Chicken & The Sea (paella), which my colleague saw and ordered a "Hot Dog Bun" instantly as she knew she wouldn't be full from it. The Confit Duck Puff was ordinary (no comments from my colleague), while the Potato Gnnochi looked like a spaghetti mishap! sad

I ordered the 12 Hour Slow-Cooked Pork Belly and if this was meant to be exquisite, it wasn't! sad Would pit our normal Pork Belly Bun from coffeeshop steamers against it, and our "Kou Rou Pau" would beat it flat in terms of flavour! No comments about the poached egg on top of the meat but I certainly want to flag out the mashed potato (you didn't see it, did you? Yes, that slick of paste is IT!". Appalling! shocked

If individual servings do not satisfy, what more in "mammoth servings"?? Not to mention if we had ordered "mammoth servings", we'd probably still leave "un-full"!!

We finished our meal, and left dissatisfied. sad It was so disappointing that we wondered if we had ordered an additional main course each, would it fill us? Probably not!

Total Cost: ~ $160-$170 for 6 pax (overpriced!)

Best Prawn Noodles Ever!!! Smile Apr 12, 2013

Prawn Noodles

Prawn Noodles

This was my 2nd/ 3rd time eating this Prawn Noodles, and I am pleased to call it the BEST PRAWN NOODLES ever (unless I find another one)!!! mad

It didn't "wow-ed" me the 1st time round, probably due to the hot weather that made the whole Food Centre an inferno! huffy But it certainly did this time round, and I REGRETTED not ordering the soup version (should have taken the cue from the 2 customers b4 me sad). I noticed that other customers typically ordered beehoon or had it mixed with noodles in soup (the stall has visible stock of beehoon more than other noodles). But I had to be stubborn in my preference, by ordering Kway Teow Mee in dry version!!! sad I was foolish enough not to catch onto the drift! sad

The sauces for the dry version blended so well - not too spicy, yet flavourful (oh, but I did requested for less chilli, as prawn noodles always sucked the soul out of me in their original chilli version! tongue). Pieces of prawn, pork and fishcake were adequate (as you can see from the pic, they made up the top of the noodles lol). I instantly knew then I would give a good review for this dish, so others would come by and attest for themselves! smile

When it comes to the soup (no pic since it looked like any other prawn noodle soup), it was so flavourful!!! mad There was certainly enough ingredients (or more) to brew such a soup! lol WHY DID I NOT ORDER THE SOUP VERSION??? sad

So, take a lesson folks! Order the SOUP version, no matter how hot the weather is!!! It is really WORTHWHILE!!! tongue

Prawn Noodles (Dry) - (Large) $3
