Quantity is there but not quality Cry Oct 07, 2013

After hearing so much and seeing so many good reviews, decided to have my Dad's Birthday celebration at Carousel.

First step into the restaurant, immediately we felt quite intimidated by the crowd and noise level. It was really packed.

I walked around to have a look on the dishes. There are quite a variety of food offered, ranging from Sashimi, Seafood , 2-3 kinds of roasted meat ( roast beef, Roast chic) to cooked food ( chinese style , make to order pasta etc) & of course dessert. However, i felt that the quality is not really there for the price that we are paying for.

The lobster was abit to hard to chew. The Swordfish sashimi was not that fresh, having a bit of foul smell, thought the salmon was quite good.

The Roast beef was abit too tough although i asked the chef to cooked it more as it was really too raw with blood flowing.

The dessert section was also quite a disappointment. They are way too sweet to my liking and does not really taste that good either.

Overall, i felt that for the price ( $75+++) is definitely not worth the money.

Fried Oyster Omelet - No doubt one of the best i had so far. It was crispy and have a very eggy flavor. There was a generous servings of oysters which are really fresh and add in some sweetness to the dish

Deep Fried Breaded Oyster - Deep Fried Fresh oyster coated with flour. Although it was deep fried, it was still very juicy because of the fresh oyster and it really goes well with the sweet chilli sauce.

I was browsing through OpenRice website and saw this promotion that Xin Cuisine is offering to OpenRice Members. 30% off for the 1st 100 boxes. Quite a good deal so decided to order from them.

Process of ordering was quite manual - to send them an email on your interest to order and they replied with an order form which you need to scan the copy with your order and credit card details. It would have been better if everything can be done online like a shopping cart. Nevertheless, the response was fast. They also allow to collect the moon cake to be collected at several shopping malls where they are having a booth in the various moon cake fair. Since i stayed in Hougang, so I chose to collect it at NEX.

When I first saw the packaging, I was quite amused. It was kind of modern and it was in bright orange. It looks more like a tool box to me rather than a moon cake box. Collection was fast, I got my order within 5 mins after passing my order form to the counter.

The moon cake looked very nice with small bits of gold flakes I believed. But I got disappointed the moment when I tried to take the moon cake out of the box. The skin was kind of sloggy which made it very difficult for me to take out from the box. The custard filling was quite bland for my liking and the skin was kind of " greasy" also. One good thing for sure is that they are not using any preservatives as the mooncake needs to be consumed within 3 days as stated on the box. However, i think they should have make it clear on the order form so that consumers will not be caught off guard if they are using it as a gift to their loved ones.

Affordable Set Dinner Smile Sep 12, 2013

Categories : Korean | Army Stew

Had dinner with my wife at Seoul Yummy. They offered set menus which reminds me of Watami. Under the set menu, you can choose 1 dish from each different categories like appetizers, soup, main dish etc.

Side Dishes - Complimentary small side dishes - mainly different vegetables kimchi, potato salad etc.

Ginseng Chicken Soup - The soup is quite clear, with a subtle fragrance of Ginseng.

Grilled Saba Fish - well season and grilled nicely with the skin abit charred and crispy.

Beef Bulgogi- The beef was quite tender and flavorful just that the sauce was abit too sweet for me.

Brown Rice

Cheese potato Pan cake- One of my favorite. The pan cake is literally filled with sliced potato and the melted cheese on the top added on to the flavor.

Yogurt ice cream - Not too sweet ,instead, it was a bit sourish.

Green Eggs & Ham - This is the 1st time i had tried a salty muffins so it was quite weird to me. It was filled with shredded ham and spring onion i supposed on the top.

Orange Choc - slight citrus flavor but the muffin was abit too dry for me
