Try the tiramisu OK Jul 23, 2013

Always wanted to try Poulet but the queue over at the Bugis outlet was so long that I never had a chance to try it! It has been opened in Jurong Point for a few months already and recently, I just had to chance to hop over to try it!

My friend went in around an early 6, there weren’t much people, surprisingly. No need to queue at all! We ordered the famed chicken, 2 bowls of mushroom soup and tiramisu! There’s not much items on the menu, not as extensive as I thought. It’s mostly meat dishes. A glass of warm water costs $0.50.

Ordering the Mushroom soup ($5.80) was a mistake though. It was really creamy and I got really sick of it after 6 mouthfuls. And the portion wasn’t small also. I wouldn't suggest you to order this if you already dislike cream-based soups in the first place.

So here comes the famed Poulet Roti Half ($15.80) that Poulet is quite famous for! Sorry to fans of this, but I had the soup before the chicken came, so the taste was somewhat marred. The sauce for the chicken is pretty similar to the mushroom soup we ordered, only abit sweeter. I suggest not having the soup if you’re ordering the chicken unless you’re a big fan of creamy stuff. But I guess if I didn't have the soup before that, it would taste somewhat better. Anyway we ordered only half a chicken between 2 of us and we were already full!

Lastly, our dessert: Tiramisu ($7.80)! It was the saving grace of the dinner. It was so good. For $7.80, it’s definitely worth it. And the portion is so huge that two of us were struggling to finish it. I really like the taste of it, the lady fingers were thoroughly soaked, although I would prefer it to be a little drier for my liking.

Service was quite efficient when we were ordering, the food came quite fast. But when we wanted to call for our bill, we actually waited for quite a while before anyone attended to us. They were probably short handed because by the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was almost full.

Dinner at changi! OK Jul 23, 2013

As it’s very rare that we’re in the vicinity, we headed to The Coastal Settlement for dinner. You can choose to take bus 29 from Tampines Interchange (probably a 20-30mins bus journey), else if there’s more people, you might want to consider sharing a cab. We took a cab at around 8 plus at night, it costs $12 with surcharge.

My friend reached at around 8.30pm and the person said that he must wait 1h for seats. But he still managed to get outdoor seats about 15 mins later. It was nearly 9pm by the time we reached, the place was very far off from the more happening part of Changi and it’s quite isolated. I would say the most optimum time to come would be early evening, around 7pm. We were greeted by the lovely and well lighted walkway that made us feel that we were in another country. It has an ambience and atmosphere that felt really good! Anyway outside dining is not too bad, but maybe there’s the risk of getting bitten by mosquitoes plus there’s no lighting at all at our side, only 1 candle which was not of much help.

We were told that our mains might take around 1 hour (or lesser) to be ready, and sides would be faster. We ordered one side, Portobello Fries ($15) which was fried mushrooms. Think french fries but inside are big, fat and juicy mushrooms. The first bite left a great impression on me. Unfortunately, it left quite a rich aftertaste in my mouth and I felt sick after eating 3 mouthfuls.

After which, our 4 mains came together at one go after 15 - 20 mins after the side dish. The crowd seems to have dispersed a little at that time.

Mushroom Fettucine ($21), another mushroom dish after our portobello fries. It was just so-so, mushrooms with fettucine. If you haven’t tried the portobello fries, this would be a good change. It has a similar taste with portobello mushrooms.

Rosti Sausage ($16) was a good change from our truffle dishes and I would say this is one of the better dishes I’ve eaten in the whole night because it’s a really good change from all the other mushroom side and main.

Half and Half pizza ($25) was recommended by the staff. The half and half combinations was beef and the other was non beef, for the non-beef eaters. The non-beef side consists of salad with bacon and ham but the ham was kind of salty. The beef side consists of mushrooms (again) with beef which tasted slightly sweet. So we had a sweet and salty combination.

Cod n Chips ($26) is the normal kind of fish and chips, the fish used isn’t dory unlike most, they used cod fish. The fries were rectangular in shape! Rather thick but I didn’t really like the fries as well because we left them for too long and it became soggy. But the sauce that came with it was nice! As for the fried cod fish, I would have prefer dory fish.

Verdict: A tad pricey, we paid $121 in total and we didn’t order any drinks. Food wasn’t spectacular but the ambience made up for it. Better to get an indoor seat or somewhere nearer to the indoor area. We were seated at the extreme end (near the playground) and there wasn’t much light. We love the swings that was placed outside as you don’t see it in Singapore often.

Thai for dinner Smile Jul 14, 2013
Categories : Thai | Restaurant

Having heard many good reviews and walking past there everytime I'm in vivo, I finally had the chance to try Thai Accent! We went in at around 5pm and managed to get a good window seats overlooking out to Sentosa!

The menu was really full of words, no pictures, but it was neatly categorised. We took quite a while to take in what they have and zoomed in on the ones with recommended signs. The plain water is free, so thumbs up for that because we ordered the spicy tom yum.

But one of my friends decided to go with a Thai Iced Tea ($6). We didn’t order as we wanted to see how the drink turned out. $6 is pricey for a normal Thai Iced Tea but I feel that the one at Thai Accent is worth the penny. Usually Thai Iced Teas will turned out to be sickly-sweet and leaves an aftertaste that is similar to pure condensed milk. But Thai Accent’s one is really good. It’s not too sweet, just nice. Remember to mix it really well!

Pineapple Rice was one of the recommended dishes, and honestly, how wrong can you go with the yellow rice! We got Pineapple Rice with Prawns ($11.90). The portion of the dish was well accepted for its price and it’s also very nice.

We ordered a Phad Thai with Prawns ($13.90) and it’s also one of the recommended dishes. But it’s a pity we left it out for too long (maybe 15 mins after it came) and the noodles started to stick together, making it very hard to mix. If you don't like your phad thai to be spicy, just don't mix it with the chilli powder! Again, for the price tag, I would say this is a good dish to order, the portion was really big!

We ordered a pot of Red Tom Yum Soup ($23.90) too! When eating thai food, tom yum cannot be left out! Red Tom Yum Soup was priced at $9.90/bowl and there were 4 of us so it was more worth it to take the pot. The pot one is enough for 5 persons' share. If you enjoy eating tom yum with just white rice, and your partner enjoys it as well, take the pot one! It’s quite shiok! Having tried the red and white version of tom yum before, the white one is more spicy although it looks less spicy. If you’ve tried both, you will know the difference. I personally still prefer my tom yum to be the red one! Anyway back to thai accent’s tom yum, it’s quite good. They have prawns, fish, mushrooms etc. We shared a bowl of rice between us for the tom yum! This is definitely one of the better tom yum I've tasted.

And lastly, we saved some stomach space for the Red Ruby ($4.90) that my friends said it’s supposedly to be nice. I thought it to be a bigger portion but unfortunately, it was quite a small portion and nothing much to rave about this dessert. It's mostly full of ice anyway.

When we left around 1 hour later at 6pm, the place was already packed. So do come earlier to enjoy good food (to avoid queuing also). Overall, we paid $73 for all the dishes, which I think it’s still pretty okay considering the fact that we had quality food (except for the red ruby), good view, and good service from the staff! It’s a mystery how I never went in despite walking past countless times and already knowing that it’s good.

Nice and bitter chocolate tart Smile Aug 31, 2013

Categories : French | Bakery | Café | Desserts and Cakes

I had wanted to visit Paul during one of the lunch hours but after looking at the menu, my friends decided that it was too expensive to dine there during meal times so we said to head back for desserts instead! We went after our movie and it was quite late already, around 9plus. However there were still some people queuing, but I saw that there were quite a lot of empty seats outside. So we took the seats outside. Because we came rather late, most of the signature cakes and pastries were sold out. We asked for some recommendations and we got Pomme-Cassis ($8.50) and a chocolate tart (Tartelette chocolat, $6.50). GST and service charge prevails but plain water is complimentary.

The first bite down on Pomme-Cassis was just sour. It has caramelised apple slices in between the two layer of sponge cakes. I wasn't very impressed by it due to the first bite. Cakes are supposed to be sweet! Maybe this dessert requires more than just one bite to fully appreciate the taste. I wonder why it was recommended though.

The chocolate tart was great! I enjoy my chocolate to be slightly more bitter and thus this suits my taste. Not recommended for people who dislike bitter chocolate though. The crust of this tart was awesome! I don't think it was baked hours prior to us eating it but the crustiness of the crust was maintained quite well.

Smoked duck pasta Smile Aug 31, 2013
Categories : Fusion | Pasta

I walked past there at around 6pm and surprisingly there was no one at all. So my friend and I were the first customers. I didn't like it that the lights were so dimly lit (around that time) and it sort of affected my mood for dinner already.

I shared the mushroom soup with my friend and it tasted not too bad! I love the garlic bread though, it's nicely toasted smile I ordered the creamy smoked duck spaghetti ($10.50) and as a person who does not like/eat creamy based pasta frequently, I must say this one at 49 seats is really not bad. I didn't feel sick of it after a few mouthfuls, which is a good sign that this is a good cream-based pasta. The only grip I had about this dish was that the amount of duck meat was too little and my pasta was too much.

The interior of the café wasn't too bad, but as I mentioned earlier, there wasn't much lighting when I was there and I didn't like the metal chairs also. But we had friendly service from the staff!
