Vietnamese! Smile Aug 05, 2013

Categories : Vietnamese

I actually ate Vietnamese food the day before but still craving for it because I really love the soup for Pho! Sour, yet sweet and salty, inexplicable taste. We queued for 10-15mins and we were given the high table and chairs. Inconvenient? Not really, they have hooks underneath the table to hook up your bags! Really thoughtful design.

We ordered a Vietnamese Spring Roll ($4.90) which was actually called “Fresh Southern Rolls with Sweet Shrimps, Egg, Fresh Herbs” and we took quite awhile to find it on the menu due to the unique name! I didn’t find the spring roll exceptional but just the normal Vietnamese spring rolls you can find in food courts, but remember to dip it with the peanut sauce for a more exceptional taste!

I ordered Pho Beef Steak Slices ($8.90), was so tempted to get the Wagyu Beef Slices one or just add a piece of wagyu beef ($2.50) but decided not to. The soup’s abit oily though. Taste of the dish was okay, I love the soup! The sour taste of it just whets the appetite. The beef slices weren't really cooked when it first came and it appeared reddish but I let it simmer in the soup for around 5 minutes. Likewise, I didn’t find it exceptional but I still love Vietnamese food! There's quite a wide array of sauces around the table so you can just choose what sauces your want to dip your food with!

Bailey's Choc Chip Smile Aug 05, 2013

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

The Daily Scoop at sunset way is quite out of the way and I only went there because my friend was driving and we wanted a quiet place for desserts! But the place was quite crowded on a Friday night despite being in a far off and quieter part of Singapore.

After trying some flavours, decided to go for something more unique, Bailey's Choc Chip. Don't be surprised if you don't see the some flavours of ice cream being displayed. But if the name of the ice cream is displayed, it means that the flavour is available! Don't be shy to ask to try smile I think they have too many flavours, not enough space to display all the tubs.

Bailey's Choc Chip has alcohol content and usually that's what I go for in an ice cream. This did not disappoint me at all as the bailey's weren't very strong and the ice cream isn't too sweet as well. I got one scoop ($3.50) to share with my friend. Alternatively, if you prefer to have smaller scoops so you can order more flavours, you can get the junior scoop ($2.20).

Dao xiao mian OK Aug 04, 2013
Categories : Food Court | Noodles

First time to 313's food court and I tried the chicken dao xiao mian ($6)! This stall seems to have a long queue so my friend and I joined the queue. And it seems to look really nice as the chefs cooked the food on the spot upon order.

What fascinated me was the part when the chef used his knife and shaved each strand of noodles one by one using a big block of kneaded flour! No two strand of noodles are the same. My noodles turned out to be a tad too thick for my liking though. I thought the chicken would be chicken bits but it came in a form of stirred fried drumsticks, which was probably why the soup was oily. But the chicken gave some taste to the soup. I didn't have much vegetables in my soup too. I guess the queue was long because everyone saw the long queue and thought it will be nice. But I thought that the noodles were just average except that it's handmade!

But I'll probably go back and try the ban mian though! There's 10% discount for passion card members and safra card members.

Paw burger! Smile Aug 04, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese | Café | Stall / Kiosk | Burgers and Sandwiches

Haven been eating lunch in town for one week plus due to my language lessons at somerset and thanks to my friend who was interning at that area, I got to know of this newly opened place called Bear Bites at Scape! I met up with her to try this new place together!
menu

For the burger;
1. Choose type of meat: Crispy Karaage Chicken, OISHI Fish Fillet
2. Choose type of bear paw bun: Original Milk, Oat, Brown Sugar, Strawberry (seasonal), curry and squid ink
3. Choose type of sauce: Mushroom, Tartar, Sweet and spicy thai, black pepper, honey mustard, golden cheese
The set meal comes with a burger, bottled drink and fries!

I got crispy karaage chicken set ($7.80) with curry bear paw bun with mushroom sauce that was recommended by the staff as I couldn't make up my mind on which to choose because there's too many (mushroom sauce add additional $0.20). As for my drink, I got the sugarless green tea because they ran out of the normal one. And was so surprised that their drink are the Pokka Bottled ones!!! Yup, so you literally get 500ml of chilled drinks (without ice, good for me I don’t like too diluted drinks)!

Initially I was quite sceptical whether the flavoured paw bun really will have flavour. I thought the curry taste wouldn’t be so distinct but surprisingly, it is! I can taste the curry taste, yet it’s not spicy at the same time. I’ve to mention that I do not have very high tolerance for spicy food. The bun was very soft and chewy unlike the dry kind for other burgers.

The chicken was cook nicely too. And oh, the mushroom sauce was SO good. But unfortunately because the sauce has rather low viscosity, so it flowed down to the plastic that was holding the burger and so I didn’t get to eat much of it while biting the burger. But after I finished the burger, I tilted the plastic so I can drink it. Yes it’s that good that I’ve to do that!!

I think one thing that they can improve on is the fries part! Got a free upgrade for the fries as I’m a follower of them on instagram! Like their fb page or follow them on instagram to get free upgrade to cheese fries! I find that their fries was abit on the dry side, but the cheese was good!

There weren't many people when we went at around 1pm. All the food are prepared so customers can takeaway the food easily. Service was friendly too! smile You can sit down if you wish but unfortunately the place isn't sheltered (only by some trees) so the ambience will not be that good if it's raining or the sun is shining very brightly.

pudding and tiramisu OK Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Korean | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes | Burgers and Sandwiches | Salads/ Acai Bowl

Went to paris baguette for desserts after dinner because my friends and I have been wanting to try out their famous royal pudding! There seems to be a wide array of desserts available, and we had a hard time choosing them besides getting the royal puddings. In the end, we got 2 puddings, original and mango flavoured, and a tiramisu.

We tried the first pudding, Original Royal Pudding ($4) and thought that it tasted not too bad, but not as good as what was being raved about. We wouldn't queue just for it though. We tried the other one, Mango Royal Pudding ($4.50). I guess it's all about preference. Personally I prefer the mango pudding because it has more flavour (a good mix of sour, sweet) than the original one which tastes more milky and eggy. One tip is that you must scoop all the way down as there is where the honey of the pudding is. It definitely gives a sweet yet bitter taste with the honey.

The tiramisu, This is a tiramisu ($2.90) looked so nice on display!! But unfortunately, it tasted horrible. I can't even taste the cream in it because all I felt was that I was eating on something really hard to chew on. The crust is supposed to be crispy and flaky but it was none of that! It probably was left out for too long. sad

Overall, I didn't enjoy the food as much as I thought I will as I came with good expectations of the food. Maybe I'll try the cakes next time!
