Tea at tcc Smile Jul 29, 2013

Went to TCC for tea with my mum and sister! At 2.45pm, the place was half full. There's 1 for 1 mains promotion for members in the month of july.

We ordered a Oreo Cookies Frappe ($8.50), a high tea set that was on offer at $13.90 (comes with tea/coffee) and a main, Tobiko Scallop Pasta ($21). The food came relatively fast!! My tobiko scallop pasta was really good! There's 3 big scallops with fish roe sprinkled at the top and I love the creamy sauce that came with a hint of Japanese soy sauce. I think the pastas on the menu all looked very nice, I had a hard time choosing but I finally went with Tobiko Scallop Pasta.

Oreo cookies frappe was very rich in its taste, and very thick as well. I think it's better after the ice melted, easier to drink.

The high tea set has a variety of tarts, cakes, scones and some meat on a biscuit. But the highlight of the set was the raisin scones! Tip: It's better to eat the scones immediately when served! It was warm when served and it was flaky and crumbly (the crumbs fell off easily) and it was so nice when put with jam! There's another one with duck meat on top of a biscuit which tasted rather unusual on a high tea set.

student meal for $6.40 Smile Jul 29, 2013

After our language lesson at somerset, my friend and I went to cineleisure for lunch and movie. Looking for cheaper alternatives for lunch and we thought up Eighteen Chefs that's just opened recently. There’s the student meal for $6.40 where you get to choose from 4 mains , 1 ice lemon tea and ice cream! smile ALL FOR $6.40! No additional charges. For the mains, choose between pasta/baked rice (for the student meal only, there’s actually a lot more choices), then choose the sauce (wide variety), then choose from the 4 ingredients (there’s chicken sausage, scrambled eggs etc). I got chicken sausage pasta with tangy tomato as my base.

Having tried both the baked rice and pasta before, I would say, go for the pasta if you like your food to be wetter, baked rice if you like your food to be drier. Tangy tomato is not bad! But abit sour-ish to my taste, but still good when taken in small amounts. There’s only 4 chicken sausage but the sauce was enough to make me eat the spaghetti on its own (with the sauce)! Complimentary water at the side, but the ice tea is really enough, it’s a huge cup! Ice cream was just the normal one scoop of chocolate ice cream. Don’t expect yourself to be extremely full from the meal if you’ve a larger appetite, it’s only $6.40! Our food came pretty fast after ordering, in fact less than 5 mins from ordering. Ice cream was served after our meal.

thai food! OK Jul 29, 2013

Dinner with my friends at Jcube and thai express had almost no queue at all so we went there for dinner!

I ordered a fried shrimp paste rice with seafood (Khao Kluk Kapi Talay) and a bowl of white tom yum to share with my friends. Note that plain water is not complimentary. My food took 15mins to come and the tom yum took 30mins to come (after repeatedly asking for it). We saw other people who ordered after us have already gotten their food! Anyway, the friend shrimp paste rice was nice! It did not disappoint me at all. It has a really nice shrimp taste to the rice as the name suggests. Add some of the given sauce and sprinkle some lime juice over it! The prawns and squids were pretty normal, thank goodness the squids didn't taste rubbery.

The white tom yum was really spicy, I would suggest that the red one would be better if your tolerance for spicy food is lower. I prefer the red one as well because it has a richer tom yum flavour than the white one. The soup contains of mushrooms, sliced fish etc.

Seafood marinara OK Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Italian | Pasta | Halal

Decided to have dinner at Pastamania because I was craving for pasta! And everytime I think of pasta, I will think of Pastamania, it is no doubt my number one choice for affordable and quality pasta! smile

I will usually order spaghetti Bolognese but I decided to go for a change by ordering seafood marinara (tomato based) which seems to be one of the recommended ones. You've to head over to the counter to order and the order will be sent to you shortly. It took 10mins from ordering to serving so it's quite fast, considering that the place was packed during dinner time.

The seafood marinara is quite good! It's even better if you like eating squids on a daily basis. There's clams, prawns and squid! However the squid was not very chewy, tasted abit like rubber though. But otherwise, the rest of the food was great! smile

healthy soups Smile Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Fusion | Restaurant | Chinese Soup

Was deciding where to have dinner when we walked past soup broth asia and they had a couple set at $20.90 with 2 soups, 1 meat, 1 veg, 2 bowls of rice and one complimentary lemongrass dessert.

The soup portion was huge!!!! Giant glass bowl, probably 1.5 times of the hawker kind. But the soups were a tad too thick and sweet. I had snow pear with pork ribs and my sister had 10 treasures. 10 treasures is probably the healthier choice because it has no meat inside and it has mushrooms, lotus roots and alot more!! I saw some people having the cabbage one which didn’t look too bad. And yes you can choose any soup from the menu!! So it was really worth it. We had ginger sliced fish for our meat dish instead of chicken. Overall, it was quite affordable, I wouldn’t say the food is fantastic but also because there weren’t too many people at about 6pm. Anyway I doubt the flavour of the soup is thick because of MSG because we saw that it’s a MSG free kitchen. The soup tasted sweet probably because of the ingredients, like corn, carrots, pears, orange skin. So it’s like fruits in your soup! The lemongrass dessert was really refreshing after the thick soup.
