Comfort food on a rainy day Smile Dec 18, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee

Porridge and steamboat go best during rainy days. Was feeling full that night so my friends and I decided to settle our dinner at Tiong Bahru Market and I choose to go with the famous Hwa Yuen Porridge to satisfy my craving.

Didn't know they are having their set promotion - a bowl of Century Egg with Shredded Chicken porridge and Raw Fish slice for $4.50. Order this since both are my favorite and thankfully it turns out awesome for me. I like how the porridge is cooked for hours and how flavorful it is. The raw fish is fresh and no fishy smell (major plus point for me) and I can just eat raw like that without 'dipping' it in to the hot porridge.

Recommended Dish(es):  Raw fish slice, century egg porridge

Spending per head: Approximately $5(Dinner)

Satay Smile Dec 18, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre

This is by far one of the most delicious satay I've tried in Singapore. Love the chicken satay especially as they uses chicken thigh meat which the meat is still moist after being grilled and not hard and dry. Other than chicken, they do also have mutton and pork to cater for your taste bud.

Their specialty satay sauce is a bomb too. Unlike the other stalls, their sauce is not oily at all. Adding on to their already tasty sauce, they customized it by adding grind pineapple to spice it up. If you want more pineapple to your sauce, you can even go to the stall and DIY it yourself.

Each satay sticks and Ketupat cost $0.50 with a minimum order of 10 sticks. This stall is very popular among the other hawker stalls and waiting can be up to 30 minutes during peak hours. But for the sake of delicious food, I wouldn't mind waiting for my satay to be cook and served. chopstick

satisfying nasi lemak Smile Dec 14, 2012

Whenever I got craving for Nasi Lemak, I will always drop by the branch at Tiong Bahru Plaza since it's the nearest to me.

Qiji offers many different kind of nasi lemak set to cater to their customers. For me I am a big fan of their chicken wings, so Set B (consist of eggs, otah and chicken wing) will always be my top choice. The crispiness of the chicken wing skin is definitely a bomb and I have no complain to it.

For $4 a set, it is definitely one of cheapest filling food you can find in a shopping mall. Peak hours can be annoying if you want to sit there and enjoy your food as the branch is quite small with limited seats.

Recommended Dish(es):  Nasi Lemak,gado gado,laksa,poh pia

The Abalone Laksa. Smile Dec 14, 2012

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel

Was thinking of where to go for our late dinner and we decided to drop by Re! Hotel for their signature abalone laksa since there's a 1 for 1 promotion going on ($18.80++)

Re! Fill Restaurant is small compare to other hotel's restaurant but I like the ambience there. Being more high-tech than others, they uses iPad as their menu and it was fun to play around with the gadget before we settle to order our food - Signature Laksa and a Mixed Combo Platter.
Mixed Combo Platter

Mixed Combo Platter

Mixed Combo Platter was served first. Consist of Yakitori Stick, Calamari and Tempura Prawns. I like the crispiness of the Calamari and Prawns but my dining partner thinks it's too oily. The Yakitori tasted good too, just that it gets cold quite fast. Overall this is a good appetizer for me.

Signature Abalone Laksa

I like how the laksa gravy taste - sweet and not too thick. Fresh ingredients are being used to go along with the laksa and this is easily one of the best laksa I've tried.

Will definitely be back if I am having cravings for some high-end Laksa again.

Recommended Dish(es):  Abalone Laksa

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Dinner)

Curry Pok  Smile Dec 10, 2012

Categories : Singaporean

Killiney Kopitiam's curry puff is one of the famous one around town, even the cab driver will ask me if I have tried that when I passed by the area. Used to work just opposite the kopitiam and everytime when I got hungry, I will just walk down to grab myself one curry puff to ease my hunger.

The curry puff is one of their signature item, on par with their local delights - Mee Rebus, Mee siam, Nasi Lemak. Unlike other curry puff, Killiney's one is more like the big brother (the size) with filling filled up to the brim. The dough is crispy and the filling is hot. Suitable for rainy and cold weather to warm u up.

If you are somerset, do go and grab either their curry poks or sardine poks to try. Cost just $1.30, even cheaper the the "O" chain brand.
