Bar chor mee Smile Jul 03, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Coffeeshop | Noodles

I had the bar chor mee at ann mushroom noodles stall located at pasir panjang. The friendly uncle behind the cooking counter hang a smile on his face all the time while doing his cooking. I had the mee pok dry version to dine in and the portion he given is big filled with many ingredients. I like the "al dante-ness" of the mee pok. The ingredients is fresh too.

Other than bar chor mee, I heard that their fishball is fresh and "bouncy" too. I shall try that in near future when I visited there again.

soya bean drink Smile Jun 14, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre

Who wouldn't want an ice cold soya bean drink on a hot sunny and humid day? If you happened to be around Tanglin Halt Market or anywhere in Commonwealth (just a 5 minutes walk from the train station) and you are feeling really thirsty, do drop by the market! I think Ah luck bean curd is the only stall selling authentic soya bean drink and chin chow drink all the way from morning to night (the extremely friendly stallowner told me that they open till 3am?!) I got myself a cup of soya bean drink and one sip at it, you can taste how flavorful it is and is definitely very authentic and have this "gu zao wei". The stall owner also tell me she's the second generation selling this and running the stall. What a hidden gem!

laksa laksa  Smile Jun 12, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

Thick coconut gravy. Smooth thick beehoon. Spicy balachan chili. Fresh ingredients. A perfect bowl of Laksa. Since there's a legacy on the laksa sold here along east coast road, joo chiat, it is time to check that out. There's 2 shop selling the same laksa, so... I decided to choose the one with further down the street.

What was serve to me really pleased me a lot. The bowl is filled up with all my favorites I've listed and the smell of it is.... heavenly. Add more chili if you think the original bowl is not up to your spicy level. The gravy thickness is just nice, not too thick if not it will hard to drink.

As usual, i drink all the gravy down at the end. It is good!

SHABU SHABU SHABU  Smile Jun 12, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Buffet | Sukiyaki/Shabu Shabu

Who doesn't love a healthy Japanese style shabu shabu with free flow of meats? I do, of course. As a big fan of steamboat, Suki-ya is by far one of my favorite place to satisfy my craving especially during those evil rainy days and you desperately need something to hot to warm your grumpy stomach. I first discover Suki-ya at a corner of Marina Square, but too bad it has closed down due to renovation. But thank God they are expanding their business and there's a branch which is quite near to me, at Bugis+!

So it is a serious affair between myself and Suki-ya. I walked in feeling very happy and immediately order 2 of my usual soup - the clear soup and kimchi soup. Though the kimchi soup does not taste spicy at all, I would still prefer it than their sukiyaki soup (not a fan of sweet soup). After that is the battle of picking my favorite sides and vegetables for the shabu shabu. Of course, Golden Mushrooms are something I will die for to have them put inside my pot of boiling soup. Followed by the Cheesy Cheesy Meatballs which the cheese will literally burst inside your mouth and burn your tongue if you are brave enough to pop the whole thing into your mouth. Finally, the meat. There's 3 meat to choose from - chicken, pork and beef. These meats are thinly sliced so that it will be cooked once you shabu it for like... 10 secs?

But to play safe, it is good to cook the chicken and pork thoroughly to prevent you from having diarrhea for nothing.

The ingredients are fresh and very worth the money. One can easily sit there and just eat the meat throughout without feeling guilty.

Scary crows Smile Jun 12, 2013
Categories : American | Fast Food | Burgers and Sandwiches | Kids-Friendly

It was a hot a humid day and I was feeling really hungry. The more humid the weather is, I will think about all the unhealthy food. Getting sick of the "M" fast food so I decided to walk over to Wendy's as it is within 5 minutes walking distance from the place I work. It was crowded as usual during lunch hour, with no available seats indoor all due to inconsiderate people leaving their whatsoever belongings on the table to "chop" it (Y they no use hand phones instead?!) and also chitty box people who sit there and chit chat till end of the world and no giving up their seats to poor hungry patrons like me. So, I have to take the outdoor seats where the nightmare is.

As for the food, I ordered one of the most unhealthy food in the menu - DAVE'S HOT AND JUICY 1/2 POUND BURGER DOUBLE COMBO. The name itself is scary enough to scare all those slim girls but of cos, not me. Comes with 1/2 pound of beef patty, Fries and Drinks. The burger is very juicy and difficult to eat (cos of the size) and I have to take out one meat patty before continue to munch of my burger. I like the fries as it is very different from the "M" fast food. There's even potato skin on it to make it more "real" like hand cut fries. Nothing special about the drink as it is just the normal coke.

Now for the nightmare. As you know orchard is well known for the.... birds flying around during evening hour. But I never know that the place is infested with CROWS. Scary crows to snatch your food with you! Once the diners finished their food and if there's any leftover... THE CROWS WILL ATTACK THE FOOD SHAMELESSLY. I have to be careful not to be their next prey once they finished off the first table, and instead of enjoying my burger happily, I have to eat real fast and escape from the scene. I hope that the management can do something the crows issue cos it is really very unhygienic and traumatic.
