Authentic Japanese Italian Cafe Smile Apr 25, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Japanese

A Japanese friend told me in Japan there are authentic western cuisines and adopted Japanese western cuisine, and Nigiro is the latter and it carried itself a really nice way as a Japanese Western cafe.

It's detailed in taste and presentation of food brought you to Japan. The place is cosy and at the end of the corridor of this Japanese food court. Also it gives a great balance of the taste... Just like the salad the cheese would never be overwhelming and you could still feel the freshness of the leaves, and the fruit tart is not overly sweet but you could feel the juiciness in the fruits.

Ambience is great as if you're in Japan... The colour tone of the coffee shop is light, tidy and warm, with some pictures of Singapore made you feel the existence of the willingness of adaptation to this lion city.

lollolmad It's not too close to anywhere but still if you don't drive taking a bus you just need to walk for around 8-10mins.  Located in Pasir Panjang although it's next to some other restaurants, it's very full when I went there on a Saturday morning for brunch.  The decoration is very welcoming.

We tried the signature ricotta hotcake.  It's colour it's wonderful.  Decorated by various fruits and the hotcake is fluffy and made me think of Bill's hotcake in Tokyo.  It's not sweetened with syrup but with the berries.  It made the whole dish much more healthy.

Then we had the kimchi fried rice.  It's a nice surprise as its matched with egg and minced meat which made the taste with more variety than merely came with kimchi.  You could easily finish it as you don't want to stop once you started.

I also ordered a cup of chocolate.  You could see from my picture it's presentation scores full mark!  It tastes also very chocolately as well.

Very good and we would come again.

Btw it doesn't charge 17% so don't forget to tip for its good service!
The egg on it tastes good!

bowlchopstickmadmadlol I just want to find good Chee Cheong Fun in the early morning of Sunday and I searched and searched and found this one.  V comfy decoration and with air-con, it serves Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun, pastries, Nasi Lemak etc.

Chee Cheong Fun is very good.  Unlike Cantonese ones it's slightly less chewy but softer, and dipped with its special sauce as I ordered Anson's special Cher Cheong Fun.  It served with picked pepper and it made the taste with more variety with a good mix of its crispness.  The curry pig skin is rare in other places and the dry curry sauce on it makes the taste very exciting,   We also tried the kaya puff. Really appreciate that it's served warm and its pastry is well made, light and crispy but not oily not greasy.  Kaya is sweet but not exceedingly sweet.

Nasi Lemak is awesome.  The sauce is complicated but not too thick.  Light but with good after taste in your cavity.  Very aromatic coconut rice.  Crispy but juicy and meaty chicken wing,  Peanuts and fish served are very crispy as well.  All things mixed really well which you could not miss.

That's why it stood for 70 years!

Excellent lobster roll! Smile Aug 07, 2015

madlolmad  I know this restaurant when I googled 'the best lobster in Singapore', and after I took away the Chinese restaurants, it's this one.  It's not easy to find another restaurant of similar which could prepare grill lobsters as they do, keeping the lobsters still moist and tender, I.e. Not overlooked.  The lobsters they picked are always very meaty.

This time I tried its lobster rolls, and it's even better!  Packed with brioche with its sweet taste matched nicely with the lobster meats with mayonnaise, and they chose mainly the meat in the claws which are more tender and juicy.

The mix of meat and bread is just right, not excessive meat which would fall from the brioche.

Also don't forget to tip the staff for their great service.  They don't charge 10% service fee.

bowlchopsticklolThis time we tried 夫妻肺片 and 海蜇頭 and they both taste very good as appetizers.  夫妻肺片 is slightly different from what we used to have in China.  It's with less sauce but the taste is still v immense and with good texture.  Not overly soft but not chewy.  Jelly fish mixed very well with sesame oil with chopped chives and they are v crispy.

東坡肉 is as good as it used to be.  It's not fatty although it could have a more melty texture.  The daily soup we have is yellow cucumber soup.  In fact it tastes like winter melon soup which is quite unexpected.  Crispy fish skin on veggie is good and the fish skin is crispy and you won't find any flour on it.

擔擔麵 is a little bit disappointed.  Too much noodles and not enough soup.  A bit too dry.  It it could have more sauce esp peanut sauce it'd give a lot more flavour to it.  Instead 酸辣粉 gives an unexpected nice surprise.

Of course the dessert 枸杞豆腐花 is it's signature dish which you should not miss.

It's always a good place for dinner at reasonable price given the quality of food it provides.  The view is a bonus.  What I have to show my gratitude is the good service of the waiters.  They are always smart and whenever you show them some gestures they know what you need without coming up and ask what you're looking for.  Great!
