Turning one is a grand affair and Loola's understands that very well. The semi-fine dining eatery by Awfully Chocolate specialises in contemporary European dishes with Asian touches and recently introduced several new dishes to its already extensive menu – all in the name of celebrating its first anniversary! A whole smorgasbord of starters have been added to the menu and items include Spiced Pumpkin Soup ($12) and Roasted Squash Salad ($18), but if you want a little bit of everything – or if you’re just plain indecisive – Loola’s Board ($32) makes a great choice. It’s full of light bites such as Miso Roasted Garlic Cloves, Baked Cherry Tomatoes, Dates with Serrano Ham, Grilled Octopus (goes great with the accompanying pesto sauce), and sinful Bone Marrow to spread on crunchy Garlic Crostini. From its humble beginnings as a small neighbourhood coffee shop in Ang Mo Kio, Uncle Leong Seafood has evolved into a full-fledged restaurant. If you don’t know by now, this is actually one of THE places to go for crab. Dive chopsticks-first into crazy big portions of tze char dishes at Shi Fu Ge! The Chinese eatery is situated where the first air-conditioned restaurant in Sembawang once stood, over more than a decade ago. Today, Shi Fu Ge generally targets the older generation, families and big groups looking to feast on belly-warming tze char creations. Shi Fu Ge’s mantra is, “Restaurant atmosphere; coffee shop prices”. Indeed, the air-conditioned tze char restaurant lives up to its promises. Must-try dishes include Assam Fish Head, Seafood Bee Hoon, ‘Four Heavenly Kings’ (a mixed bean dish), Golden Chicken Cubes, Honey Pork Cubes, Tofu with Broccoli, Milky Butter Crab and Pig’s “Hands”. Introducing Chef Kazuo Sukuraoka’s revolutionary concept of ramen-and-colour fusion – all in the name of helping people like you and me remember our favourite ramen dishes! The new ramen outlet, Keishoken (now located at Great World City in Ebisboshi Shotengai) brings the flavours of northwestern Gunma in Japan to Singapore. Love the creamy texture of the Hanjuku egg? Then you must pick the Ajitama Ramen. Enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth goodness, together with the rich flavours from the pork broth. The combination of the ingredients of this miso-base ramen play with the palate. With a blend of ginger, garlic, apple, minced pork and even peanut butter, it’s not so hard to see why one should try the Orange Ramen! To celebrate their first anniversary, fans of Fat Cow will be pleased to know that they have added new items to their menu to keep you coming back for more. Begin your dining experience with new beef items imported from the reputable wagyu farms from all over the world. Whether you prefer it shabu shabu, sukiyaki, or charcoal-grilled, these are the items you can choose from. For their beef items, they have the Zabuton Steak ($89, 225g) which is seasoned to the core with their special house blended 12-year Yamazaki miso wet rub. Aside from the way this is marbled, the seasoning gives it a more intense flavour which you won’t forget after your first bite. Another upcoming favourite is the Wagyu Claypot Donburi ($105) which is claypot rice topped with onsen egg and ribeye steak.
