Arirang Korean Restaurant Cry Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Korean | BBQ

Lately I’ve been watching too many korean dramas till addicted to their food (kpop), me and hubby went for Korean BBQ buffet. This place is small (for a bbq place) and cozy, the staff was a little sluggish and grumpy.

As there's a time limit to eat here, we have to order our food randomly without really taking much time to slowly read and decide which is more worth it and enjoy the dining process.

The side appetizers were fresh, I liked the kimchi as it was very spicy and crunchy. Ordered some dishes from the hot food menu, kimchi fried rice was a little wet , toppoki's sauce was flavourful and gooey however the rice cake was a little hard tasted as if undercooked. Korean stir fried glass noodles were springy and has nice "wok hei" smell.

Overall all marinated meat is average, nothing fantastic and it almost seems they served rather slowly on purpose to use up the 2 hours while outputting minimal meat. I think all in all the most nerve wrecking part for me is the thought of eating under a time limit like I'm being pressured while doing an "eating mission" on "running man" and I'm not going to win any gold upon completion.

There’s more negativity in this experience than those tragic dramas I’ve watched. I probably won’t return unless positive reviews about it, all best for them.

Les Amis OK Jul 30, 2013

Went dinner with hubby at Les Amis, romantic and quiet restaurant with excellent service. I ordered the Lobster Pasta, angel hair spaghetti was cooked al dente, soaked up the amazing flavors from the light, lemon-garlic wine sauce.
Tender and succulent lobster meat laid down nicely on the pasta.
The rest of the gastronomic spread has fancy visual appeal but tasted palatable.
Dessert, coconut infused sweet white chocolate joint with dark bitter chocolate was a wonderful piece.
Served with a zesty and icy mango sherbet.

Tung Lok XiHe Peking Duck OK Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Beijing | Multi-Cuisine

I Love Chinese Food ! what am I saying, I LOVE FOOD! But for today, chinese. We went to Tung Lok Xi He @ The Grandstand,We ordered Peking Duck, Boiled Prawns, Celery Chicken, Broccoli with mushroom. This restaurant is clean, new and spacious. Slow dishing out orders but good servers.
Crispy and fatty peking duck skin, DIY wrap with thin egg crepe cucumber and spring onion not forgetting the sweet sauces, heavenly
The remaining duck was cooked in garlic chilli was delectable.
Prawn was fresh, crunchy and sweet; the rest of the food is average, nothing outstanding.

I probably won't come back too often as the taste to cost don't justify.

My ex-workplace organised a dinner and got me to recommend a place that was fitting for the gathering . So as I’ve tried this before in another outlet and found the food is very suitable to the palate of more “elder” people.

Old style steamed fish slices – Fresh and tender fish slices cooked in robust chinese wine with spicy ginger and spring onion.

Duck Roasted with 10 Wonder Herbs (whole duck) – As I’ve tried this in the other Nex branch, the consistency standard of the crispy skin , succulent meat and strong herb sauce.

Baby Kailan with Salted Fish – I specifically asked for lesser oil , the kailan is fresh and crunchy. Due to its original bland/bitter tasting nature, it went well with the salted fish.

Stir fried ee fu mian – The noodles was kinda overcooked and soggy. I thought it’s the usual dry-fried type but this “ee fu” is wet and bland.

Hot plate tofu – Sizzling its way to the table , I could hear/smell it from far. The fried egg tofu is soft and “bouncy” , covered with delicious minced pork and sweet dark sauce.

Daikokuya Smile Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Was doing IPL with the girls nearby and decided to have our lunch at Daikokuya.
We ordered Cha Su (Char Siew for us locals) Ramen and Seafood Gyoza with Mentai and Mayo.
Well cooked springy ramen in a light and delectable pork bone soup base. The Cha Su pork meat is soft and tender , the only problem was I wished there were more of it.
Next was the scrumptious seafood filling wrapped in crispy gyoza skin drizzled with savoury Mentai sauce and zesty maiyonnaise which made the visual plating appealing.
