New Bites – October 2013
2013-10-01
Another month has passed, and that means that there are more new dining places that have recently sprung up. As your trusted food guide in Singapore, we have scouted the country looking for these places which are worth the visit. Here are some of our food finds: PACK’D
Perfect for foodies on the go, PACK’D is the latest venture by the Les Amis Group. It offers anything from sandwiches, salads, stew (which can be served with rice or pasta), and soups. These items come with cute wooden utensils and are served in takeaway boxes. Ordering can get a bit confusing since there’s a step-by-step process; but the staff members are willing to guide new customers through it. If you have time to spare, do eat your order inside the spacious and bright interior with high glass walls. It gives diners an unobstructed view of the majestic Fountain of Wealth. After eating, don’t forget to clean your own table. --- Address: Suntec City Mall, #B1-169/170, 3 Temasek Boulevard Singapore 038983 Tel. No.: +65 6884 7717 Operation Hours: Daily: 8am to 10pm Aoi Sushi
Aoi Sushi is the latest Japanese restaurant on the block. Located in one of the shop houses along the Killiney stretch, Chef-owner Lau Weng Wah swears that his restaurant specialises in authentic sushi. But unlike most places in Singapore, he makes his creations different by using different-textured rice (harder than most rice) and red vinegar. The results are sushi items such as the Salmon Fish Roe, Sea Urchin, and Tuna Belly – all of which are just divine (hence, the hefty price). When you bite into them, you would easily taste the freshness of the ingredients. Aoi Sushi also offers maki and grilled items on the menu. But don’t leave this place without trying the sushi! --- Address: 87 Killiney Road, Singapore 239533 Tel. No.: +65 6737 4767 Operation Hours: Daily: 12pm to 2:30pm, 6pm to 10:30pm Supply and Demand
From the Cre8 Group comes another new restaurant and bar concept – Supply & Demand, which specialises on Italian and Peruvian cuisine (no, it’s not fusion). This elegant new dining outlet at Esplanade has a restaurant and rooftop bar, which has a wonderful view of Marina Bay at night. Meanwhile, the restaurant interior has a romantic feel to it with the use of warm yellow lights. This is mixed with a fun vibe with the use of mismatched furniture and swing benches at the al fresco area. The menu boasts a wide array of Italian and Peruvian dishes, some of which are the Chorizo and Italian Sausage, Margherita, and Al Funghi Mushroom pizza. Enjoy these together with other nibbles, snacks, and alcoholic beverages from the long bar. --- Address: Esplanade, Colours By The Bay, 8 Raffles Avenue, #01-13, Singapore 039802 Tel. No.: +65 6336 0588 Operation Hours: Daily: 11:30am to 11pm Nara Thai
It’s about time the Thai people share one of their best-kept secrets in their home country – Nara Thai. With a goal of bringing authentic Thai food to foodies, Singaporeans can now enjoy the delectable offerings in a more relaxed setting. Its first overseas outlet in ION Orchard has a sleek and modern look, yet still gives off a very Thai-centred vibe. For the menu, expect the usual items of Green Curry with Chicken, Tom Yum soup, and Mango Salad, which are derived from age-old Thai recipes. You can also find some not-so-common Thai food in the restaurant's extensive menu. For the full review, click here. --- Address: ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn, #B3-21 Singapore 238801 Tel. No.: +65 6634 5785 Email: info@narathai.com.sg Operation Hours: Mon to Sun: 11:30am to 10pm (last order is at 9:30pm) Bread Society
Bread Society is more than just a place where you can buy breads. If you’ve been to Suntec City recently, you would see that it has renovated its outlet to include a spacious 35-seater café. It comes with a menu where you order breakfast items, hearty soups, and desserts. Some our favourites are the Scrambled Eggs Brioche, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and The Society. The latter is the ultimate breakfast item where you can find thick-baked pancakes glazed with butter and maple syrup, pork sausage, and thick bacon slices. Bread is still the heart of Bread Society and you can get lost in its bakery section which house around 70 to 80 products. --- Address: Suntec City, #01-301/302, Temasek Boulevard Tel.
