“The simpler, the better.” That’s the Italian motto when it comes to making their traditional Neapolitan pizza. In this country, specifically in Naples where it originated, you won’t really find those versions which are just topped with everything you can imagine. Their pizzas are only created with a maximum of 4 ingredients: tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and two other garnishes.

2. OKONOMIYAKI

The Japanese don’t imitate; they make their own. Drawing inspiration from pizza, they have created some sort of hybrid between a pancake and pizza in the form of okonomiyaki. Though the base remains the same in most okonomiyaki, you can play around with what you want to include as toppings. While the basics are cabbage, dried seaweed, and bonito flakes; you can also mix it up with noodles, scallions, cheese, and squid. For that final touch, mayonnaise and barbeque sauce are drizzled on top.

Koreans’ fixation on kimchi is amazing, especially since they mix it in most (if not all) their food. Even the pizza is no exemption! Using the same round-shaped dough as base, kimchi is then used as the main topping for this pizza variety. So, you can expect to taste some cabbage, radish, and cucumber. As the main finale, melted cheese is topped generously.

6. GREEK PIZZA

This type of pizza is basically made from ingredients most used in Greek food: feta cheese, olives, green bell peppers, and gyros meat. One main difference with this version is that it doesn’t use tomato sauce but olive oil instead. Unlike most pizzas baked sin wood-fired ovens, this is cooked in a shallow pan drizzled with again…olive oil.

7. CALZONE

It’s just pizza but presented in a different manner. Calzone is made from the same ingredients (pizza, cheese, ground meat, vegetables). But instead of topping these on a flat dough, these are stuffed inside a dough shaped like a half moon. Think of it as a curry puff, well… without the curry. The taste is similar to the pizza as well, but this one is so much easier to eat.

Indians aren’t the only population who love to spice up their dishes. Mexicans also like to add chilli in most of their dishes – like pizza. Their version is thick and cheesy; then topped with ingredients (green chiles, chorizo, Mexican cheeses, lettuce, fresh tomatoes, taco sauce, tortilla chips ) which can make your mouth catch fire (figuratively speaking, of course).
