Yesterday I went to food republic to have quick lunch.I ordered a bowl of fried fish soup with noodles for $4.80. The fried fish was good as it was quite crispy delicious although the soup wasn't as nice as I expected as I requested the stall holder to add some milk in it but there no milk taste in it. The noodles was also alright as it was well cooked and bouncy. The stall holders were quite friendly and fast in serving the food although the environment was not very clean and it was very packed all the time.Food Republic @ nex@Serangoon#B2-63 to 66, nex@Serangoon23 Serangoon CentralSingapore 556083Tel: +65 6834 3126Operating Hours:7.30am – 10pm (Sun – Thurs)7.30am – 10.30pm (Fri – Sat, Eve of Public Holidays)Read More

I bought assorted cantonese dim sum from the Fortunate Restaurant stall at Food Republic. They serve good quality dim sum at reasonable prices.Century egg & minced pork porridge $2.50I liked that their porridge has a thick and smooth texture. The seasoning for the porridge is very fragrant, coupled with crispy bits of crackers, makes it a perfect comfort food.Carrot cake $3.50Their carrot cake, though not as soft as high end restaurant's ones, does taste pretty good with lotsa hae bee and chinese sausage bits in it. Beancurd roll w/ abalone sauce $3.50The beancurd rolls has a nice mix of minced pork, prawn meat, black fungus, chestnut & carrot strips which makes it really yummy to eat.Scallop dumpling $3.50Contains fresh succulent prawn meat with juicy scallop topping, one of my fave!Siew Mai $3.50Minced pork with generous portion of prawn meat inside, giving it a nice crunch. They used tobiko instead of coloring as topping...thumbs up.Minced pork w/ chestnut & parsley dumpling $3.50This one tasted ordinary, the pork based filling with chestnut & parsley didn't do justice to its pretty looks. Har gow $3.50Another of my must order dish, thin and resilient skin wrapped with chunky fresh prawn meat...yums.Read More

Was looking for food to buy for my breakfast early in the morning and only a few stalls are opened in nex.Decided to try out this stall as there is quite a number of people who are queuing for their items.Bought the fried prawn dumpling and fried seafood beancurd that costs $1.10 each.It is very crispy even though I left it for almost an hour before eating it.And the ingredients in it is pretty generous. There is real big baby prawns in both items which is juicy and fresh!;DIt is also tasty and fragrant!^^However it is a little too oily.It is quite worth it for the price as there are real ingredients Read More

We ordered some steamed buns to share from this very stall. The chinese name for this is called xiao long bao. They served 5 in a tray. These steamed buns have got a certain amount of soup in it and with filling of nicely seasoned minced meat in it. We tried and liked it. It was served with some shreddered ginger in the vinegar but i would prefer to have it without the sauce. Read More

This is one of a great venue to have really nice Chinese dim sum at very affordable prices. Located in this trendy designed foodcourt, the environement is friendly and comfortable. Really like to eat the steamed prawn dumplings here as they are a healthier version as compared to those deep fried version. Moreover, the prawn meat in it are very fresh and sweet andthe dumpling skin is also very smooth and easy to chew as well. Read More

Love the dim sum at fortunate restaurantAlthough it is a stall in Food Republic food court, it has quality similar to Crystal Jade. lotus bun (lian rong paos) - I love that its shaped like a pink peach - skin is tender, moist and chewy and the lotus has good texture - smooth without being too sweet. har gaw (prawn dumplings) - I love that prawns are big and chewy and skin is thin and does stick together in a clammy mess or break too easily.Staff is friendly and gave me good recommendations when I was undecided as to what to order. was not expecting their dim sum to be nice as it's a food court and not a restaurant. but was surprised that the dim sum was very good. tasted fresh and the fillings and portions were generous. reasonably priced. service is nothing special. there's lots of items to choose from, and sometimes they have 2 prices, which can be confusing. very popular stall with lots of people ordering. can takeaway as well. the baked and steamed buns are very good. recommended.Read More

had the century egg lean meat porridge. it was surprisingly very good! the ala carte menu on the wall for some reason had it as $6.50 per bowl, but when i ordered, it was $2.50 per bowl... maybe it's different size or the $6.50 was served in a claypot? there was lots of chucks of century eggs and enough meat to sweeten the porridge. not overly rich or sickeningly oily or fake at all. the taste when you first put the spoon in your mouth is very tasty and i was quite amazed seeing as it was not expensive. service is not that great but the food is good.Read More

Poa Luo Char Siew bun at Fortunate Restaurant Hong Kong Dim Sum has been many old folks flavourite for quite a period of times already. The Char Siew meat in it are really juicy, sweet and tender. The bun is spongy and not too hard. The yellow coating on it is sweet and nice. You may fell like craving for more after your first bites. At only one dollar and thirty cents per piece, is a very good buy and not too costly. As the venue is also located in a crowded shopping mall, the sales here are really good on all days. It also usually sold out very soon as limited amount are done daily. Read More

This "chu chiong fun" is with "cha siew" one.It is quite special,as we seldom see this in food court. This is only available for the hong kong dim sum,The cha siew is quite nice, flavourful and it really match well with the chu chiong fun. This is a normal hong kong "chu chion fun".The sauce is not tomato or chilli sauce but is soya sauce. The "fun" is really soft and smooth. And the leek really make it taste nicer. This is "ha qin",means prawn covered by the fried skin.It is quite oily, but is tasty.Need to dip on the mayonese to make it taste nicer.Read More

The dim sum at this stall can be considered as above-average. A huge disappointing aspect would be its price (but it seems like it's more expensive at every stall in this foodcourt compared to other foodcourts). Nonetheless, for a quick dim sum fix, I ordered the following for dinner:Chee Cheong Fun w Char SiewHad wanted to order the one with prawns but it was sold out. This one is rather good, though I still prefer it with prawns. Lor Mai KaiIt looked unique, but it was really below average. The ones bought from the supermarket where you have to steam yourself would have topped this! Siew MaiThe only interesting thing is they squeezed some orange-coloured bead-like stuff on it, like some exquisite decor. Taste was average. Century Egg PorridgeThis dish was good. The taste was rich. Only catch is the serving. They could serve in a larger bowl. It's only porridge, how expensive is this? Also, the staff almost forgot to put the cornflake-like topping on my porridge! Hmph!! Char Siew PauAverage. The meat is also too little.Custard Pau (Liu Sha Pau) This is good!!! Got to be careful in eating this pau. The sweet filling inside "flows"!!! Once again, can't the pau be bigger?! Is it me or are servings really small these days?!Total Cost - $14+ (I'm not sure if this is expensive, considering that the food doesn't really leave me with a "wow" feeling or even full. Aftering consuming the above with my gf, I contemplated ordering Hokkien Mee....)Read More

I was fretting what to have for lunch and wanted something light and special so I decided to go for the century egg porridge. Century egg must be cooked well else it will have that unpleasant smell and taste. The porridge is very sweet, fragrant and smooth and the century egg does not spoil the taste of the porridge too. There was quite a lot of meat and century egg in the porridge too. In the coffeeshop, you will find porridge going with youtiao, but for this stall you have crackers. The porridge here is certainly well cooked and deserved the good comments. Read More

As I was walking around nex, I notice a rather long queue at one of the stalls at food republic. I decided to check it out. It turned out to be selling dim sum, and I presumed it was really good so I joined the queue. I ordered their char siew bao, it came in a pair of two at $2.80. The skin was very soft and fluffy and the fillings were quite a lot. They used only lean meat for their char siew unlike some coffee shops where you can taste the fat meat. The char siew marinate was very yummy, sweetish saltish. The lor mai kai was awesome too, wrapped in a banana leaf, the fragrant is locked inside. They add quite a lot of gravy inside, so it was not too dry, there was quite a lot of chicken meat as well. Very worth it!Read More

I went to Nex shopping with my friends when we were feeling tired and hungry so we decided to drop by food republic to try out their dim sum.I ordered one long of siew mai and one da bao. There were 3 siew mai in the long. They used rather huge prawns and it was topped with fish eggs. Very solid! The da bao was also very value for money! The filling was A LOT! But it cost $2.80. So whether worth to eat or not. I leave it up to you.Read More
