Located at the ground floor of the mall, the place is opened till late and shows football matches on its big screen. Although the place is al fresco dining, one can choose between smoking and non smoking area. The TV screen area is smoking area by the way. Anyway there is no match tonight, so we decide on the non smoking area. While it is non aircon, the place is quite cooling, but the music could be a bit too loud for me.Pizza Burger ($28)Homemade juicy beef patty wrapped in dough with salami, cheddar, caramelised onions, tomatoes, lettuce and bacon jam. Comes with fries. The fries is barely warm. The burger is enclosed in a soft and chewy bread like dough, different from the usual pizza crust. The caramlised onions is sweet and moist with a melt in the mouth texture. The beef patty on the other hand is quite dry and overcooked.Oven-Baked Seabass ($28)Oven-baked Seabass served with pumpkin mash, asparagus and spicy mango salsaThe fish is a bit dry and overcooked, plus a bit overseasoned. The pumpkin mash gives a sweet buttery finish to the dish.Corolba Sparkling Water ($8/ 750ml)As the staff refuses to serve us iced water, so order a bottle of mineral water to share. A bit unhappy because I do see other tables are being served water. Interestingly the drink is served in a glass bottle.Overall food is so so. Surprisingly the place is packed at such late hours during weekdays and is quite difficult to get the attention of the staffs. continue reading

We used the Groupon to go to this Italian fine dining in ION Orchard. We spent $40 on Groupon and we can enjoy $80 food - drinks are excluded. For starter, we ordered the soup of the day - cream of mushroom - quite tasty. For main course, we ordered Carbonara and Chicken pineapple pizza. Carbonara was creamy delicious and the pizza was not too bad. Always looking for the wildfire grill dough. for dessert, chocolate fondant was recommended - chocolate lava was oozing out of the chocolate cake with Bailey gelato; raspberry and strawberry on the side. continue reading

Read my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/great-pasta-lunch-alfresco-gusto-ion-orchard/I bought some deal.com vouchers for Alfresco Gusto @ Ion Orchard & the family decided to go for Sunday lunch. the Alfresco Gusto vouchers were S$10 for S$20 & you can redeem unlimited number of vouchers, so effectively (nearly) it was quite close to a 50% discount, so relatively a good deal if the food & prices were good. We don’t do Italian out so much but we do visit from time to time a few like Al Borgo, Valentino, Spizzico, Covelli, Ochre & a good cheaper place like Capri. We ordered the tuna salad. It was well plated, looked pretty. The mesclun salad with olives was great, the tuna was very average (kind of tasteless) though. We also had the antipasti platter which had parma ham, beef, salami & sun-dried tomatoes, olives & baguette. It was good & S$26 was ok but Capri served a much better version at S$18, so w/o the near 50% discount Capri would do better on this item.I was never much into carbonara but the one here was really good – creamy & flavourful & looked amazing (top photo), the best among all the good dishes. I would put the veal ragout as the second best item. It was creamy, savoury and nicely sprinkled with chopped parsley & grated cheese & sun-dried tomatoes. The prawn linguine in tomato sauce came with very good helping of large prawns – my daughter counted 7! it was good to but I guessed more towards the ordinary & boring – something we could do at home with equally fresh ingredients almost equally well. the last item we ordered was the crab meat risotto. It was good as well but I distinctly remembered that I had tried the funghi risotto here once before a while back & that was the best I had for that meal & this crab meat version was not near as good even though it cost S$10 more.all in all, the 6 dishes for our 5pax lunch cost S$101 nett using the vouchers which was really a very good deal considering the quality of the dishes. without the vouchers it would cost S$181 nett or about S$31++pax. as ala carte order it would not be overly expensive however there were many good lunch set places & better deals to be had elsewhere, so I would do this but not often w/o the discounts. continue reading

Made dinner reservations for two at Alfresco Gusto and I'm reallly pleased to say that it wasn't a disappointing waste of time that you might experience in an overpriced, un-authentic and gimmicky Italian chain restaurant that's so-called traditional. The bistro comes with an alfresco area as well as an indoor seating. The outdoor seating is more chill, and also more dim, so we opted for the indoor seating (we were afraid it would be too humid/warm to sit outside!) Not too bad a choice, the interior is pretty chic and classy, while simple at the same time.We ordered a beef salami pizza, a mushroom risotto, a Glenfidditch 12 on the rocks and a glass of white Santa Carolina. The beef salami pizza was way better than expected! The crust was thin, and the cheese was still stretchy and hot. The taste was definitely there, and the salami had a nice saltiness to it that made the pizza really worth eating at $22. The best part is the cheese that is so stringy, so warm and delicious! The risotto however, was definitely my pick of the night. It was chock full of mushrooms which I suspected were of different variety, the taste of the mushroom was infused into the risotto. It wasn't too soggy or mushy, and it had the perfect consistency. I'm a huge ran of risotto and this is one of the better ones I've eaten which I felt was not only substantial, but also my money's worth($22). It wasn't overly creamy, and the sundried tomatoes added an amazing touch. While I'm not a fan of malt, my companion enjoyed the Glenfidditch 12($14). I was perfectly content with my $10 glass of Santa Carolina. It wasn't dry or bitter, it had a pleasant fruitiness that really uplifted the meal. It was slightly sweet, and it had a hint of sweet fruits along with a dash of citrus.Alfresco Gusto is definitely worth a try! Especially the risotto. The servers were also quite attentive, especially when I called to make the reservation -the person who answered my call was really courteous and pleasant. The ambience is also quite nice for a dinner date with girlfriends, or for a date continue reading

Ordered a glass of ice cold-ed beer, asahi... as we're catching a soccer match over at the cafe thus a nice cold beer would be the best choice to go along with it.. Well it's a nice beer that's easy on the throat and it doesn't really taste that bitter compare with other beers like heineken or stella. It's suitable drink for both guys and ladies. especially when the weather is either humid or hot.best to have it in the afternoon where the sun is hot hot... continue reading
