Ballistic Meatballs Menu

Crispy Wild Mushrooms ($3), Crispy Crab Balls ($10.50)

The Crispy Wild Mushrooms wowed surprisingly, for something that I admit I dismissed as too common to have anything worth noting initially. Ballistic's version however, has a thin crispy batter that is just the right balance of salty peppery. I couldn't stop. At just $2 with any meatball order, this is a must-order.

Crispy Crab Balls ($10.50)

This was the shop's special when we popped by, in celebration of SG50. The Crispy Crab Balls, served with two mantou buns and chilli crab sauce, are made from crab meat and clams rolled together and coated in a crispy panko batter. One side was soaked in chilli crab sauce, which made it mushy moist, but at the same time, you can still get the crispiness on the other side. The chilli crab sauce complemented the meatball very well. This was our group favourite.

Ballistic Signature Beef Meatballs ($5.90), Plain Jane Meatballs ($4)

The Ballistic Signature Meatballs did deliver, with the flavourful beef meatballs crispy on the outside, revealing an inner melted cheese filling. This came in closely to the Chilli Crab Meatball for me, so if the special is out, this is good. The Plain Jane chicken meatball however, was a tad too salty and its slightly flat shape caused it to be a little flat in the mouth in terms of texture, compared to the other completely rounded meatballs.

Judging by the meatballs we had, this stall well gives IKEA a run for their money.

The Salted Eggyolk Fries (SGD$7.90) was my favorite of the lot. The fries were crispy even when drenched in the thick, sandied-texture salted eggyolk gravy, basking in its flavour lending credence to the fries' lighter taste.

We also had the Crispy Crab Balls (SGD$10.50) an SG50 special. Fresh crabmeat and clam were rolled into golden balls of crisp, drenched in chilli crab sauce and served with deep-fried mantou buns. The teeth rejoiced at this dish - getting through the crumbly exterior into saccharine mashed seafood; and the chilli sauce had enough punch to keep eaters yearning for more.

Our Signature Ballistic Meatballs (SGD$5.90) fared much better with crunchy seasme-battered exterior and chewy interior, the tasty beefy flavour well complemented by the melted cheese softening the effects beautifully. Meatball lovers should give this a go - oh, and it scored especially high points with me because there was not a single morsel of hardened fats found in these meatballs (common in meatballs in most restaurants- I know because I would spit them all out)!

A meatball concept restaurant in Simpang Bedok Market Place, the Ballistic Meatballs stall opened in May 2015. Touting hand made meatballs, and with a name that is a pun itself, Ballistic Meatballs has a simple, straightforward menu, with a very niche concept.

Ambience at Ballistic Meatballs is shared with the rest of the stalls in the area. The clean, white look and feel projects a sense of minimalist zen, and you can see staff hard at work in the open kitchen. Part of the appeal here is their high bar stools, though I much prefer sitting in the spacious common area in front of the stall.

Service at Ballistic Meatballs is decent. Staff are young and cheery, offering greetings when you step in. They're rather knowledgable about the menu and meatball ingredients, able to answer basic questions. And while ordering and payment is self-service, staff do serve orders to your table if you sit nearby.

Food at Ballistic Meatballs is designed around meatballs. The meatballs are small, hand made, and generally of decent taste. Ballistic Meatballs has a few other options on their small menu, including several side dishes, and sliders. Portions are small for 1 person, and prices are reasonable, budget about SGD $9 per person for a meal here.

The chef has experimented with creating his own flavours, and the meatballs here are a distinct fusion of Western presentation and Asian flavours. And they're also a No Pork, No Lard store.

The Salted Egg Yolk Fries (SGD $7.90) is a new item on the menu, and most of our group found it delicious! The salted egg yolk sauce is thick, creamy, with good flavour that is a mix of salty and spicy (from curry leaves). The fries are hot, with a medium thickness, and the combination is delightful. However, it needs to be eaten quickly, as it doesn't taste as good when it cools.

Meatballs are the speciality here. The Plain Jane Chicken Meatballs (SGD $4) are small and round, with a slight bouncy texture to the meat. You can't really taste the chicken, as the herbs and spices are a lot stronger, but overall, I liked it! The Signature Cheesy Beef Meatballs (SGD $5.90) feature a cheese stuffed beef meatball, garnished with crunchy sesame seeds While I liked the savoury, salty taste, the texture isn't as pleasant as the other meatballs, being slightly dry.
