My family was able to redeem a cake from Bengawan Solo due to one of our relatives' baby shower. We were so lucky! This Banana Cake ($8.80 for a small-sized cake) is sooo good! The cake is moist and full of banana flavour. It is also easy to slice owing to its smooth texture. For $8.80, it is considered affordable for the quality that you get. We devoured this cake and finished it all very quickly. It was great!Read More

For this year's birthday, my sister bought a more oriental/Singaporean tasting cake - Bengawan Solo's Pandan Cake! To be honest, this is not my favorite cake from Bengawan Solo. I would give kudos to Bengawan Solo for their creativity in the construction of the cake. The cake has alternate layers of sponge cake and agar agar which gives a unique texture to it. However, I felt that the agar agar could do with more sugar. It might have also been better if there were some cream to go with the cake. Perhaps, older people would like it since its Pandan flavored but this is really just not my type of cake. :/Read More

Usually when I visit this bakery shop, I will normally buy their kaya cakes and the tin biscuits. This is my first time buying their kueh to try. Bought two pieces of kueh ambon for my breakfast. The texture is very moist and firm, and it is full of the egg fragrant in it. At $1 per piece, I think it is priced quite reasonable for everyone to buy. The shop is very neat and service staffs are quite friendly as well. Read More

Even though there are lots of places selling egg tarts and egg tarts comes in a variety be it regarding its pastry or it's flavour, i still like Bengawan Solo ones when once in a while my craving for egg tarts strike me strongly. Bengawan's egg tart is different from the rest as its pastry casing is not those well-loved flaky type, nor is it the crumbly, crunchy cookie type. Instead, it is a 'cookie' like dough, but soft in texture and sweeter than average tart dough. Paired with the smooth egg custard filling, it is very satisfying. :)Read More

It has been long since I had a cake from Bengawan Solo, and the last i remembered, the black forest cake did not look like this. But despite the changes in appearance, the taste of the cake, and its fillings remains. Jam filled the middle layer instead of cherries as would be expected of black forest cakes. The cream aren't soft and fluffy. Over all, it is still a no frill decent cake that could be shared. Read More

Went shopping in Lot 1 just now and decide to buy back a coffee roll to share with my family for teaThe lady at the counter was so kind~she offered to help me slice up the swiss roll:) The coffee roll certainly is worth the buy! Coffee sponge has a slight tinge of coffee flavour, not too overwhelmingly strong, and the coffee buttercream just brings out the coffee aroma! Awesome! Will be back for more~!Read More

i was doing some groceries shopping with my mother at lot 1 when we came across a branch of bengawan solo. My mother went in and bought their walnut cake. I love bengawan solo’s walnut cake, it is simply so delicious. the cake is very soft and moist. It taste strongly of walnut flavor. You can even taste the walnuts in the cake. One mouth and it simply melts in your mouth. It is just so fluffy, really goes well with afternoon tea. One of the nicer walnut cakes I have eaten. Very fragrant.Read More

My friend got me the bengawan solo cake on my birthday this year and i like it alot.Being one of the traditional cake shop, benganwan solo really do it well. Personally, i don't really like traditional cakes because most of them have coconut inside. However, bengawan solo offers such a wide range of kuehs and cakes that doesn't have the coconut fillings inside so i'm quite glad. I like their kueh lapis.Other than that, they do westerized cakes as well. And during mid autumn festival, they provide customers with their self-made mooncakes which is really nice too!Read More

normally we can only eat delicious cookies like cornflakes cookies, sugee during chinese new year. and normally the wait for chinese new year is very long. i happened to chance upon bengawan solo today and found out that they still sell new year cookies now. i saw my favourite cornflake cookies and bought a small box. the taste actually taste nicer than those u have during new year. the cookies are crunchy and very fragrant. i cookie into your mouth and u will keep wanting for more. the packaging also looks like the cny container, the metal tin. it makes an ideal gift for xmas, it can also bring out the upcoming chinese new year mood too :)Read More

Bought a 1/2 kg Pandan Kaya Cake from here for only S$20.80 for my parents birthday.Usually we would buy from another fave shop Swee Heng but this time, we wanted something less creamy and more healthy, esp when its for my parents. They were kind enough to reserve one for us anytime to collect but tell you a little secret, try to collect the cakes after 7pm as its the time when the cakes will arrive fresh from the factory. Anything earlier, they will reserve the cake from the previous day.Our decision is right. The entire cake was finished even though it was after our dinner! You will be able to smell the pandan fragrant once we open the box and the deco is beautiful. Just like kueh lapas, inside the cake are layers of kaya "jelly" with pandan sponge cake. The hard and soft pandan kaya combination is excellent. All loved the cake.Next time will definitely try their other cakes. Read More
