We always look forward to Crystal Jade's Konnyaku mooncakes as they are a refreshing change from the usual traditional and snowskin varieties. I particularly love the Snow Lotus (nothing like the usual lotus paste!) flavour as it exudes a light flora fragrance that leaves a sweet lingering aftertaste. The glutinous texture of the Snow Lotus is akin to having boiled hashima in jelly And best of all, the Snow Lotus is believed to reduce heatiness & enhance immunity! For those who are looking for something more unique, the Roselle & Hawthorn flavour would make a good choice. The slightly sour-ish taste is both appetizing and invigorating. And with both ingredients believed to help control cholesterol and aid in digestion, this is a must have to counteract the calories laden mooncakes! As for the other flavours – Osmanthus & Plum, Rose & Red Date and Chrysanthemum Honey – I find them quite soothing and appealing as well, albeit a little too sweet!Overall, a nice addition to the yearly mooncake feast! continue reading

My mum likes wife's biscuit (lao po bing), and crystal jade's bakery happened to have them - which is good as I didn't have to buy one whole box. I got 2 pieces of lao po bing, can't remember how much they cost but it was around $3.60 for 3 pieces. Their lao po bing is average - the crust not as flaky and crumbly, and the melon filling was soft and smooth and not too sweet. Overall makes a good snack. continue reading

Crystal jade bakery sells egg tarts and char siew sou among other traditional Pastries! The egg tarts are passable with a custardy smooth filling that has a nice eggy flavour without being overwhelming. The letdown is the pastry though. While the texture is nice and flaky while being crumbly, it is really lacking is flavour without a nice buttery sweet flavour. continue reading

Was craving for nice coconut tart when i chanced upon them in this shop. I was apprehensive to buy it as i find their quality is not consistent. Sometimes, their tarts are really good, but sometimes, their tarts doesn't rise well, resulting in dense layers that are more chewy than flaky. Decided to give it a chance and bought one. My first bite assured my tastebud that this is really good stuff. The crust was flaky and melt-in-your mouth, the coconut filling inside was sweet and moist. It was also adorned with a slice of red cherry piece on top. My appetite for it has definitely been satisfied. continue reading

I was working in the area and decided to pop by Crystal Jade to get some snacks for tea in the office after my lunch. This is the sesame glutinous pancake that I got as the staff are just placing it on the trays just as I entered the shop. Each of this glutinous pancake cost $1.10. It is really delicious as it is full of black sesame paste within the pancake, and the glutinous pancake itself is soft and rather chewy. The black sesame is not cloyingly sweet as well. There are around 4 other variants of this pancake, like green tea, red bean which I will definitely try next time. continue reading
