The menu also offers a good variety of coffees and there are the western mains alongside an all-day breakfast menu (not available 12-2pm on weekdays).

Sweet Potato Latte ($4.80)

The purple sweet potato latte is one of the cafe's signatures. Milky, with sweet potato bits and a pretty purple colour, the drink is just the right sweetness. The sweet potato flavour is evident in a subtle manner, but personally, I found it a bit too milky. Full of sweet potato flavour, but also subdued because of the mild nature of the flavour. It is definitely worth a try though, especially for goguma lovers.

Latte and Mocha

The coffees here are on par with most other cafes' standards too.

Eggs Ben-Addict

We went with the Eggs Ben-Addict on Bagel for all-day breakfast. 1 yolk was done right, while the other was slightly overcooked. Nevertheless, this was up to par in flavour and the bagel had a sufficiently soft interior to mop up the yolk.

Grilled Fish with wedges and sauteed mushrooms

From the mains, the grilled fish served with crisp wedges and sauteed mushrooms was not bad. The accompanying sauce made it slightly more interesting. Though why there is that straight orange thing sticking out, I am not sure nor know what it is.

The staff are also friendly too. They greeted warmly on both occasions that I visited. This is one more of those cafes that is more than its hipster facade, with food that can match up to its hip factor. The same can hardly be said for a good lot of the newer joints that have sprouted up recently. Despite the competitive cafe scene, Cups n Canvas has withstood the test so far and rightly so.

Born from an imaginative creativity, Cups N Canvas is a combination cafe and art studio, where you can satisfy your soul with painting, and your stomach with decent food. Located in a refurbished shophouse, Cups N Canvas channels a tinge of history for patrons.
The ambience at Cups N Canvas is great, because the cafe is thoughfully laid out, with dining and artwork sections. The artwork already help give the place a fun, playful, vibrant feel, and the quirky furniture aids the artsy appearance. Medium level lighting, high ceilings, and cool air conditioned interior means comfortable dining, and you can easily spot the old shophouse facade just behind the kitchen counter.

Service at Cups N Canvas is decent. Staff are friendly and polite, but ordering and payment is self-service, although orders will be served to you. You can also request to paint here, and there are specific times set aside just for artists to paint. However, it seems that painting is the only option of artwork available here.

Food at Cups N Canvas revolves around brunch, light bites and snacks. They have some unique items on the menu, but the scope is generally limited to breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and pasta. Portions are decent sized, and prices are average for a cafe. Food is generally somewhat tasty, but with cheap / frozen ingredients.
Ever had a Sweet Potato Latte (SGD $4.80)? This unique purple / violet hued drink is a non-caffeinated beverage taht is rich and thick with the taste of sweet potato. Goes down smooth, and the small grains of mashed sweet potato at the bottom are yummy.

The PK Duck Sandwich (SGD $10.90) is a tribute to the Chinese Bejing Peking Duck. Slices of smoky, savoury roasted duck, marinated in an orange and hoisin sauce, topped with fresh Japanese cucumbers, served on a warm, soft, fluffy, ciabatta bread. Topped with melted mozzarella cheese and a chinese style cracker, this dish is excellent, big on taste. I only wish the duck was more substantial, or they gave more slices.

The Iced Cucumber Mint Tea (SGD $5.80) is a perfect summer beverage for those hot days. Fresh diced cucumber and a balanced blend of iced tea, garnished with a mint leaf, this drink is cooling, refreshing, and the perfect thirst quencher.

This time round I visited Cups and Canvas. Centrally located just after Orchard near the Selegie area, this is the cosy cafe to be in especially if you are into the arts. The café also hosts art painting sessions and so if you are interested in this kind of art jamming café, do consider dropping by.

We were there in on one weekend morning for breakfast and there was already a crowd gathered in the café. Wow Singaporeans do wake up early huh? Or perhaps they are tourists from nearby budget hotels ^^

Immediately upon setting foot into the café, I fell in love with the settings and the atmosphere of the café. Laid back and tastefully decorated by the colorful paintings, this café exude a lively happy vibe. I love the artsy feel of Cups and Canvas.

The ordering area. http://static1.sg.orstatic.com/UserPhoto/photopending/0/M3/004D80B03B8E271F7EFFFFc.jpg?1401101253
Ordering is self-service and payment is done on the spot. Food will be delivered to you thereafter. No service charge.

More lovely paintings around to keep you in an uplifted mood.

The cafe has a wide variety of painting and drawing classes for children and adults, usually held on this side of the cafe. When there are no classes, this side will be opened up for customers.

Here’s our order:
Sweet Potato Latte $4.80.

I have not expected and was pleasantly surprised when the Sweet Poato Latte turned out to be purple in color. The only time I have ever tasted Sweet Potato Latte was in Korea where the cafes there served this drink and theirs has always been brown in color and much like any coffee.

So I was like “WOW! So Pretty!!” Especially with the latte art on it, I was smitten by this pretty violet. Taste? It was superb and by far the best Sweet Potato Latte I ever had. First time that I actually tasted sweet potato chewy bits, pureed with steam milk. Caffeine free, this drink was thick and aromatic and tasted just like sweet potato.
I have to say theirs tasted better than Korea’s version.

I adore Salmon and so without hesitation, ordered the Chef's Special- Smoked Salmon Sandwich $13.90.
Turns out to be good! The bread was light and crispy and was spread with salmon, mayonnaise sauce, lettuces, onions, capers-spread and greens. Love the sandwich!! Simple and yummy.

All Day Breakfast: Eggs Ben-Addict $14.90.
Packed with homemade Hollandaise Sause ( the yellowish sauce you see is an emulsion of egg yolk and liquid butter), honey ham, poached egg, bagel, tomato and greens. Looks yummy. Taste not bad but a bit too bland. We suspected the chef forgot to add in salt
but we managed to add in our own spices.

They are located just a short walk of 10-15mins from The Cathay.

One of the nicer cafes around which serves good and real food. Cafe hopping time on a weekday, three hungry girls are there to feast!!! The lunch special entitles you to a free drink with any pasta ordered. We had the Olive Room (olives and mushroom), Red Hot Chic, Greeno Pesto (basil and chicken) plus a Egg Ben-Addict! We love the pasta, not too dry or soggy, it is just right, flavorful and springy. The eggs ben-addict was also gobbled up in minutes, just couldnt resist the goodness of the poac

The unique Sweet Potato Latte is perfect for those who prefer caffaine free drinks! Pretty and purple, you can even taste the bits of sweet potato in the drink.

Besides dining in cup N canvas, you can also get to hands on and draw some art as well. Remember to have their lunch specials, as you can get to order pasta that comes with a free drink. I had blanc bacon pasta which was very rich and creamy. I had sweet potato latte as my drink, and to my surprised it was very rich in its flavor with bits of sweet potato in it as well. I will definitely recommend my friends to try out the sweet potato latte.

Having walked past the cafe and making a last minute decision to patronise them I decided to grab some tea-time food and cup of coffee so as to burn some time before I get back home. The Banana bread is really similar to what is more known to us as Banana Cake. Every bite comes with the fragrance of banana, and the bread had a texture that was not crumbly with a skin that came off rather easily. Served with cream cheese at the side that gives it an interesting salty yet savoury flavour, it is a simple yet fulfilling tea-time item to have.

The Flat White is pretty well done too; the coffee was smooth and velvety without having the strong bitterness in it, but still felt pretty aromatic nonetheless.

I ordered a salad with poached egg and I must say somehow the sauce was a nice mix of tanginess and not overwhelming so that that you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. The only gripe was that I think were were not very lucky with the timing because i think some of the friends of the owners came at that time and the whole place felt super noisy I couldnt even hear what my dining partner was speaking. I would like it to be a bit quieter and it looks like the kind of place remote enough for you to spend a quiet weekend with your book in the corner. Given the distance, I would probably go back again but its not the kind of place i feel thats worth you travelling down for.
