Black Pepper Chicken Pie Don's Signature Chicken Pie Kueh Lapis
Review (19)
Don has quite a few outlets and I wanted to try and see if it really has "the best chicken pie in town" as claimed. The regular chicken pie was out, so I got the black pepper chicken pie instead. The pie is quite big and can be shared by two. There's plenty of ingredients within the pie, but I find the fillings to be too dry. Also, the flavouring of the fillings was quite one-dimensional and monotonous. The crust of the pie is quite thin but then there's hardly any flavour to the crust itself. It's probably not bad in general, but it's definitely not the best chicken pie I've had.- The storefront- Black pepper chicken pie, $5.80 continue reading

What we loved about the Chicken Pie most; is actually the crust that covers the filling. It is so light, flaky and yet crispy, it got us wondering how Don managed to achieve that. As for the Shepherd’s Pie, it is just personal preference that we do not really fancy the slightly hard potato crust. While I prefer the black pepper filling, my parents and brother thought that the black pepper didn’t do justice to the already tasty filling by masking its taste! my family likes to frequent don for thier signature chicken pies. The pies are really flavourful and are prices reasonably while being able to feed the entire family. The pies have pretty thick pastries, surrounding chunky filling consisting chicken cubes and potatoes. Each section also has half a hard boiled egg so everyone gets a piece of the coveted egg! continue reading

FoodIt has been long ever since I went to Don's pie. China Street has never disappoint me with their famous food! As I walk along the path from china square, I happened to saw Don's Bakery kitchen where the baker is preparing the dough for its pies. We cant resists the temptation and walked up towards Don's Pie shop.Ordered the Snapple - Cranberry and raspberry. Though the drink its not cheap, I still like the fact that Snapple are natural and the little suprise below the opening cap. The taste of the drink are perfectly alright and not too artificial nor sweet. This is the little surprise that comes below the cap. It just never fails to keep me "Whao" with the facts.Thomas Root Beer tastes almost like the normal A&W root beer, but the fact that it isnt that sweet which i think its good. The side view of the original pie (comes in a quarter). Comes with big chunks of chicken, half boil egg, steamed potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, peas and corns. The crust is not the kind of normal cripsy that we have seen and it comes with layers/folds. You can see it from the cross section of the picture. There is a little bit of peppery taste. This is the top view of the original pie. Looks good and tastes good. The Shepard's pie is filled with smashed potatoes. They mentioned that potatoes are freshly baked and no preservatives were added. It's very filling with its smashed potatoes are the main fillings.Stuffings in the shepard's pie are definitely worth a try and money spent. Considering a look at this picture. ServiceService is ok. The guy actually explains the differences between the original and shephard's pie tastse.AmbienceQuiet place to dine in on a lazy sunday afternoon. Sometimes you will get the afternoon sun shines right onto the table where you are dining. PriceWith the price that we are paying, it's definitely value worth your money. Recommendation / TipsIf you havent try Don's pie, I reckon that you should have a try. The also have crab bee hoon which I like. continue reading

Chicken Shepherd’s Pie ($5.80) : A variation of Don’s signature chicken pie, Don steams and mashes all the potatoes in house to create the soft, yet firm texture you see on the chicken pie. Cooking and mashing the potatoes in house keeps the pie fresh.Chunks of chicken, mushroom slices, carrot, corns, peas under the mashed potato. Tastes very peppery. Tasty mash potato on top to balance out the pepperness.Kid’s Pie ( $5.80 ) : Removed the peppercorns from his trademark chicken pie to make his trademark pie suitable for children of all ages! Feels that the pastry is too thick and not crispy enough. The pastry has a rather strong shortening taste. continue reading
