See my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2014/11/07/heng-kee-興记-curry-chicken-noodles-at-hong-lim-food-centre-on-7nov2014/which is better? heng kee or ah heng curry chicken noodles, also at hong lim food centre?i was in the area & decided to drop by for curry chicken noodles at 2pm on 7.11.2014. :-)ah heng at level 2 had a longer queue. i went to heng kee at level 1 there was about 7 in the queue. i was 8th in the queue & as it turned out, the stall owner had to close early, i was the last & all the others after me were turned away. the wait was about 10+mins.the chicken was very sweet & moist. the tau pol & curry were very tasty. i could not really tell the difference – this & ah heng curry chicken noodles.overall my own preference is still ah heng curry chicken noodles. i think this heng kee version was less spicy & curry was a bit sweeter. on both counts i preferred ah heng. there was also the presentation. the chicken at ah heng, the colour & the presentation were all better. however heng kee was closing & i had the last bowl, so the curry was from the bottom of the barrel so to speak but it fact it tasted very well. anyway i still like ah heng better, just like others will swear by heng kee.

We ordered the S$5 serving and waited for a solid 50 minutes in the queue – there were about 25 people in the queue and it moved really slowly, each serving being dished out at a seemingly snail’s pace. The curry mee comes with the standard fluffy fried beancurd (tau pok), slices of fish cake, potatoes and chunks of white steamed chicken. We went for our usual mix of yellow noodle and bee hoon.So how did it fare? Unfortunately, it lacked the ‘wow’ factor for us. While the noodle was firm and not too soggy, the curry was darker and diluted as compared to Ah Heng curry mee, was not fiercely hot and came with a tad of sweetness. The coconut flavour was not too distinct as well. Please refer www.ieatandeat.com for details.

This is a famous stall for serving curry chicken noodle. I get to choose in between bee hoon, thick bee hoon and yellow noodle to go with the chicken and the curry gravy. It is the same type of white chicken served in the chicken rice stalls. The texture of the chicken was just right with its tenderness and juiciness still intact. It was then served in the aromatic curry gravy together with strips of tau pok. The curry gravy has got a comforting level of spiciness. It tasted quite good.

When I went for lunch today, I had to queue for around 15 minutes for Heng Kee Curry Chicken Noodles. Hoping that the long wait will be worthwhile, I was rather disappointed by the small bowl of curry noodles which costs $4. The savory gravy was sweet and spicy but lacking in the fragrance and flavour of coconut milk. The noodles blended well with the gravy but the serving was so little, I could finish it in 4 mouthfuls. The 3 pieces of steamed white chicken were more bony than meaty and miserable, if I can think of a word to describe them.
