I met an old schoolmate for early lunch at old airport road hawker centre 11.30am today 2.12.2014. We decided on hougang jing jia mutton soup stall.there was no queue. we got 2 bowls 牛杂 mixed rib, tripe, tendon (S$6 each).it might be that my expectation was a bit high. i was expecting like chai chuan you 柴船头 @ bukit merah view standard. or at least the standard of yu ji@whampoa market or the other stall #01-75 at whampoa market. but this hougang mutton soup was quite a let down actually. somethi

it might be that my expectation was a bit high. i was expecting like chai chuan you 柴船头 @ bukit merah view standard. or at least the standard of yu ji@whampoa market or the other stall #01-75 at whampoa market.

but this hougang mutton soup was quite a let down actually. something was not quite right about the taste. soup was not as flavourful. i felt the meat was overcooked & too soft not the texture i like for mutton ribs and not as tasty, and chilli was simply too dilute.

for me, this was not comparable at all with the other 3 stalls. my favourite is chai chuan you 柴船头 @ bukit merah view but i like the 2 whampoa stalls too.

Mutton soup

The mutton soup was unfortunately quite bland and lacked flavour. The portion was acceptable but at $5, it was quite expensive and I could get a bowl of mutton soup elsewhere for $4 with more slices of meat. The meat was better tasting when it was dipped into the chilli, though the chilli could be more spicy. Service was quite efficient and I got my order quickly.

The hawker centre is huge and a lot of hawker variety here. the main problem is when your friend decides to sit all the way opposite of the stall you're buying from. I had the Mutton soup, the staff was friendly and prompt delivery upon payment. Watch out, just because there isn't a "queue", there actually is! because the other customers usually go buy something else and they will deliver to the table. Portion wise , I love the soup very much. it's very flavourful and it's "good for the man". The amount of pepper is just right and the taste of the mutton is reduced. The mutton is soft/tender paired off with the interesting chilli sauce dip.

    The FoodI ordered the mutton soup and the soup was light with a strong herbal flavour.The mutton ribs were thick, soft, tender, and most important very fresh. There is no lamby taste and was very tasty, definitely worth the price.The ServiceWaiting time still acceptable as the food is served within 5mins.The AmbienceAlthough the stall is in a hawker center, i find that the place was well-ventilated and not stuffy hence still acceptableThe PriceReasonably priced at $5 per bowl for decent portion.

    I ordered the mutton soup and the soup was light with a strong herbal flavour.
    The mutton ribs were thick, soft, tender, and most important very fresh. There is no lamby taste and was very tasty, definitely worth the price.

    Waiting time still acceptable as the food is served within 5mins.

    The Ambience
    Although the stall is in a hawker center, i find that the place was well-ventilated and not stuffy hence still acceptable

    The Price
    Reasonably priced at $5 per bowl for decent portion.

    Overall
    I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!

    everytime I drop by airport road area, ron would get a shot of this stall's mutton soup without fail. it's not too peppery, soup is pleasant to drink and the meat is great and it's "tonic for the male" too. Strong man's food. Don't forget to dip the meat into the chilli. adds a nice kick to the overall combined flavour!Uncle very friendly , you can choose the parts of mutton (fatty or none fatty)
