I have passed by the stall on numerous occasions and was always puzzled over what the stall actually sells since there's no menu shown. Then recently I read an article in My Paper on this stall and I recognized the picture of the elderly stall owner. I was surprised to read that the stall was actually frequented often by Japanese customers looking for fresh seafood. The reason why there's no menu is because the owner (I think he's at least 60+ years old) sources for fresh seafood daily at the markets and sells/cooks whatever seafood he has procured for the day. Seeing that there's a paper sign put up in front of his stall selling hokkien seafood noodles (note the use of "seafood", not just "prawn"), I decided that I must try the food here.Wow, I was amazed that for a mere $3, I got a really large prawn, six fresh clams and squid slices. The seafood was really fresh & I have not tasted such sweet clams for a long time. The broth used to cook the noodles is different from the usual hokkien prawn noodles. I believe the one he uses stems from the sweetness of the actual seafood he uses in the dish. It was a tad salty but tasty nonetheless. The fresh seafood is really the good deal here. The next time, I might try the recommended crayfish noodles or other seafood zi char dishes stated in the article I read. continue reading

I was having a late dinner here with my partner. Most of the stalls have already closed then so we left with little choices. I decided to order the crispy noodle for $4 from the zi char stall for the first time. The noodle tasted delicious after it soften and soaked up the sauce. It served with ingredients like fresh tasting prawns, sotong, fishcake and some vegetable. The tasty sauce complemented the noodle and the ingredients. continue reading
