Instead of just cooking the meat and vegetables, it adds the laksa flavor to it, spicing it up for those who prefer an added spice to their taste buds. Prices are reasonable and comparable to steamboat everywhere else, roughly around $20, considered a good deal especially when you are getting laksa gravy. The spread was good and covers a wide range.

We finished off with a special house chendol. Delicious and a perfect ending after a round of laksa steamboat. Looking forward to return here for the rest of their specialties.

I don't take spicy food (not even a little bit) so it's very rare that I would step into a restaurant that serves Laksa. Well, they do offer non-spicy items on their menu such as burgers and pasta, but I was there to try out one of their signature desserts - the Chendol. They even have an ice shaving machine in a corner where they prepare the chendol. Laksania is already rather well-known with 3 other branches at prominent locations: Bugis +, NEX and JEM. But this branch at 382 East Coast Road is really a hidden gem. You can choose between 5 types of Laksa base:
1) Singapore Laksa
2) Penang Laksa

3) Kelantan Laksa

4) Sarawak Laksa
5) Vegetarian Laksa

I sampled all 5. I actually really like the Kelantan Laksa and the Penang Laksa. The Sarawak Laksa is an acquired taste. Pick the one you like best!

Must try if you visit:
1) The Laksa Steamboat of course!
2) The really unique Passionfruit Soda!
3) Their refreshing Ice Chendol to finish off.

During our meal here the owner revealed that Laksania is meant to be pronounced Laksa-nia ("only" in Hokkien). In other words, something like "Only Laksa" with a Singaporean flavor. She also shared with us her inspiration for the 5 different Laksa broths and her passion for food.

Another thing that I liked about the place was the strong air-conditioning. Comes in handy when you're having something like a laksa steamboat buffet! The staff were also very friendly and attentive. 5 stars! Definitely a place worth visiting.

They also employ these disabled staff to work in their central kitchen such as Movement for Intellectually Disabled in Singapore (MINDS) and the Institute of Mental Health (IMH). Their job scope includes preparation of various laksa pastes and marinades to be used in Laksania cafes islandwide.

Upon arrival, I requested for a glass of hot fragrant lemongrass beverage which was very refreshing and at the same time detoxifying. Priced: S$2.50

The taste was so good that I could not resist but to order another top up. This hot beverage made from fresh lemongrass, honey and palm sugar. From the colour of the drink, you can tell there were richness of palm sugar added but still not sweet. Very well blended.

Being early, I had the opportunity to meet up lady boss Sin Sin to share notes on how she prepare the various types of laksa paste from scratch. To her Laksania literally means “laksa only or simply laksa”. The concept of this restaurant is to bring different flavours of Asian Laksa gravy to the world.

OpenRicers has the opportunity to flavour a teaspoon portion of the five traditional laksa gravy such as Kelantan Laksa, Sarawak Laksa, Penang Laksa, Singapore Laksa and Vegetarian Laksa.

From Kelantan her hometown, there is the Kelantan Laksa with alluring flavours of tamarind, lemongrass and ginger flower with palm sugar added to the fish and coconut enriched broth that goes with the noodles accompanied with a special chilli sambal.

Sarawak the hometown of Sin Sin husband, there is the Sarawak Laksa made from herbal spices.
Though spicy yet soothing with prawn and chicken broth. Coriander leaves and lime juice are a must have to spice up the noodle flavour.

The Penang Laksa made from fish and tamarind broth with sweet and sour savoury giving the traditional Penang distinctive taste without coconut milk.

Vegetarian Laksa caters for the vegans served with assorted vegetables. No onions, garlic nor meat.

Finally, the Singapore Laksa served with thick rice noodles and sumptuous spiced broth garnished with prawns, fish cake, must have fresh cockles, taupok, boiled eggs and minced laksa leaves. The signature broth with dried shrimps and coconut milk.

The five flavour of Laksa are priced at S7.50 per bowl.

By the way, there is no service charge for all your bills.

There are also Laksa fusion dishes such as Laksa Lasagna, Laksa Hotpots, Laksa Burgers and the list goes on. Their dishes cater for all ages including kids friendly meals.

We were spoilt for choices with a variety of ingredients to be cooked in simmering pot of chicken and Singapore laksa broth.

For dinner, we were served with the Chicken Broth and the Singapore Laksa broth with an array of selected dishes such as fresh prawns, fresh cockles, beancurd, fish paste, sliced beef, chicken, white cabbage, lady’s fingers stuffed with fish meat, crabsticks, corn on the cob, fish balls, half boiled eggs, various types of toufu, green and red chilli stuffed with fish meat. A variety of mushrooms such as Enoki, Shiitake and Abalone.

The chicken broth was refreshing and light and the Singapore Laksa the hot favourite gravy goes well with the dishes. There were a few types of secret recipes dipping sauces such as stronger pounded chilli paste, milder chilli paste and even a taucheo paste to blend with the steamboat ingredients.

We felt like we were having Laksa Yong Tau Foo when we added all the selected vegetables and stuffing ingredients with fish paste into the steamboat. Most of us opted for tang hoon (transparent noodles) which uplighted the whole combination.

Dessert for the night was Chendol. The palm seeds and "chendol" green worm noodles were slightly soft. There were a generous amount of red beans. Topped with sufficient rich coconut milk together with added palm sugar syrup and shaved ice.

"Most people see laksa, that sinful concoction of curry noodles and cockles, as quick fix meal. But Mdm Sim Sin Sin, see the dish as a way to fix lives.” – The Sunday Times

We wish Laksania every success in their future business and charitable ventures.

For all laksa lovers, if you’re craving for laksa, don’t just head to tanjong katong for the 328 katong laksa. Venturing further down the road along east coast road lies another laksa heaven called Laksa-Nia.

As the name goes, everything here is served with a taste of laksa (except the drinks and desserts of course!). The chef even came up with some creative additions to spice up your laksa craving without neglecting its original taste: Laksa Goreng, Laksa Baked Rice, Laksa Lasagne etc. Check out Laksa-Nia’s full menu for all the innovations.
I had their passionfruit soda cause I knew I was going to have laksa. Pretty good combination though and the drink was good too. Had chendol for dessert and it was served with a straw and a spoon. Interesting as you can actually “drink” chendol and it was good. That aside, moving on to the main highlight.

If you think that there is only one kind of laksa in Singapore and that all laksa taste the same, well you’re wrong. Laksa-Nia offers you different 5 kinds of laksa and each of the laksa taste is uniquely different. Their signature laksas are the Singapore laksa and the vegetarian laksa while they serve 3 speciality laksas mainly from Malaysia: Penang laksa, Sarawak laksa and Kelantan Laksa.

You might think that all these funny laksa sure taste very similar but trust me, each of the laksa taste different entirely and is “got standard okay”. I managed to try all the laksa soup, (courtesy of the friendly lady boss) a little of each soup in those sauce dish plate as I was told each laksa’s origins and its difference with one another. These laksas aren’t just some weird creations that the chef whipped up-they came from real recipes from hometowns in Malaysia as per the laksa name. And if you still think it is still not legitimately real enough, check this out. The owners originate from Malaysia themselves: The lady boss’s hometown is Kelantan while her husband is from Sarawak and their executive chef is their eldest daughter who is the inventor of Laksa-nia’s innovations.
Prices aren’t very steep but slightly more expensive than 328 katong ($7.50 for a bowl of laksa) but considering the fact that you need not travel the entire Malaysia to try out all the unique laksas, the convenience it brings makes the price fairly reasonable.

For those who cannot stop at just having a bowl of laksa and you feel that you need everything laksa, the outlet at east coast road has the all you can eat laksa steamboat option. Something that is still not common in Singapore, here is the place to try it. Think about it: your steamboat ingredients all cooked in laksa soup. Isn’t it more flavourful than regular soup bases such as ginseng chicken soup or 麻辣/ 酸辣 soup or even miso soup. Furthermore prices are similar to any other decent steamboat you can find out there($20-ish) so you get your worth in terms of soup and your tastebuds. The steamboat comes with two soup bases and you can choose from the 5 laksa soups available, whichever to your liking. They do offer other soup bases such as herbal chicken as well for that mix of flavour.

Laksa-Nia also has a mission of social enterprise amongst their daily operations. The less fortunate, disabled mentally or physically, are hired by Laksa-Nia and trained with life skills to be independent on their own and given a chance to contribute back to society. Visit Laksa-Nia to see for yourself and do not be surprised if you are being served by that special someone. The staff have gone through proper training and are well equipped in handling tasks. Read more about it on their webpage.

So if you only tried Singapore laksa or only heard about Singapore laksa, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many variations of laksa across Malaysia and Laksa-Nia is your one stop laksa place for all of those. Head down to any of their 4 outlets (JEM, NEX, Bugis+, 382 East Coast Road)to experience laksa. You haven’t tried laksa until you dine at Laksa-Nia.

They had 5 different kinds of laksa paste you could choose from, Singapore,Penang,Kelantan,Vegetarian,Sarawak. It depends on your taste and preference on which paste you would prefer but i should say my favourite would be the Kelantan paste. Its not too spicy, not too herbs like just nice for my taste buds
They served it in a steamboat setting but only applicable for this outlet and not the rest due to its 'strategic location'. You can choose between rice or tang hoon for your base to eat with the laksa. Eventhough its a steamboat setting,i didn't get bored with the laksa soup as it was delish not too spicy and they gave 3 different chili paste that compliments the different laksa paste, how awesome is that!

A definite MUST TRY FOR ALL YOU LAKSA LOVERS AND THOSE WHO LOVES SOUPY OR SPICY STUFF!

PS: I took pictures but lazy to transfer from my phone to the lappy so you guys can follow me on instagram @ajnyan for the photos and my FOOD ADVENTURES! >.<

After eating the laksas, there's the option of cakes by "Secret Recipe".

I loved loved the laksa goreng, the noodles was fried really well and the portion was generous. the prawns are fresh and the chilli that was paired with totally added the great punch in the overall experience.
Satay with Laksa Dip! It was damnn good, perfectly grilled satay presented with style on a classy plate.

Love this place.

the aircondition inside is very strong and inviting if it's a hot day/night.
Singapore laksa's taste is creamy and filling, can "fight" with katong 328 laksa. Laksa goreng is well cooked, prawns are very fresh and juicy. Lasagna has an interesting twist with the laksa sauce. the seafood hotpot is fresh and healthy tasting, loved the prawns and fishball so i "upsized" my meal. Lastly the most interesting combination for me is the french fries with the laksa dip! if mcdonalds had this it could be a hit like the curry sauce. too bad the fries portion was abit less. staff was very friendly and attentive. overall great dining experience.
