But first things first, I had a cup of Cuppucino (SGD$4.50) to kickstart the lunch cum catching up session. I am rather proud to announce that for this coffee, I could literally taste the fruity (prunes?) and slight hints of flowery notes in it... but its a .. feel, lol. As usual, I would prefer my cuppucino with cocoa sprinkles atop.

This was the Mud-Oozzzz aka Chocolate Lava Cake (SGD$8.90) - rich, delicious and chocolatey, topped with a large scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Okay, to be fair we loved the flavor of the chocolate pastry aplenty because it was really good and the chocolate flavor was distinctive, however there were two things to note. Firstly, the cake being served in a cup like this, one couldnt really tell if there was "lava" oozing out from the cake or was it a ganache all the way; secondly the scoop of ice cream is too huge it obliterated the taste of the lava cake upon melting.

*Kirk selected the Seasalt Caramel Chocolate Chiffon cake (SGD$6.80) - a soft, fluffy slice of delicacy encompassing the darker flavor of chocolate with the lighter tones of seasalt, a very subtle combination of savoury-sweet clashes. It was delicious in texture and taste.

For mains, I had the Sirloin Steak (SGD$26.90). I wanted medium rare but it felt more like medium to me. Nonetheless, the red wine sauce was good - tangy hints but nothing too strong, and against the rather tender steak's chewiness, I'd say it was a good complement. The fries were crispy and salad fresh. My craving for red meat was satiated in a lovely manner.

Rest of the dish didn't even worth mentioning.

The bf, Crystal and I headed down to L’etoile Cafe over at Owen Road for lunch(:

I was looking forward to our meal as I had a really high expectation of L’etoile Cafe based on the numerous numbers of good reviews from food bloggers and all alike, so let’s start the taste test!

1. Iced Mocha & Iced Chocolate – S$5.90 & S$5.50 respectively

Crystal ordered the iced mocha while the bf and I shared the iced chocolate. The iced mocha was fine while I thought that the iced chocolate was a tad too water downed for my taste.

2. Soup of the day: Mushroom Soup – S$7.00

Having heard that the soup of the day was mushroom soup, it was almost my immediate reflex to order it. It was pretty decent with loads of generous bits of mushrooms as seen above.

3. Truffle Fries – S$12.00

This is definitely the most expensive fries I’ve eaten in a cafe before, so luckily we were sharing! Hehe. Have to say that it was kinda worth the price due to the huge serving. Fries were nice and crispy but I think I prefer the one at The Tuckshop instead.

4. Big Breakfast – S$14.90

The big breakfast comes with toast, potato wedges, mushrooms, bacon, sausages, eggs of his choice and greens on the side. However, to the bf – the big breakfast wasn’t very big, nor filling enough. I tried it and it wasn’t too impressive either.

5. Aglio Olio with Bacon – S$14.90

Crystal went with a pasta dish of aglio olio with bacon with is basically spaghetti with garlic, olive oil, chilli peppers and pan fried bacon. She wasn’t a big fan of it though she finished everything, I also tried it and well, I’ll pass on the comment.

6. Eggs Benedict – S$12.90

My food came last and after trying out Crystal’s and my bf’s food, I was prepared to not really be happy with the eggs benny. Luckily it was alright but I prefer the eggs benny over at Chock Full of Beans.

7. Double Chocolate Chiffon Cake – S$5.90

Thank God..because dessert saved the day! We snagged the last piece of the Double Chocolate Chiffon Cake which looked amazing and to our surprise – it tasted even better than we thought it would! Nice, soft, moist, mm, we were in love with this cake!(:

In total, we paid a whooping S$86.90 for our cafehopping trip to L’etoile Cafe which works out to be around S$29 per person. Was not worth it at all in our opinion and to be honest, we left feeling stuffed, but not very satisfied with everything we ate. Like..the only saving grace was that chocolate cake for dessert.

Maybe they were having a bad day on the day we went, I’m not sure why our experience at L’etoile Cafe was pretty negative in comparison to the excellent reviews out there. But well… ;/

I may come back to L’etoile Cafe if I’m in the vicinity but I will most likely only order a dessert and nothing else. Besides, it’s too crowded on weekends!

The small but cosy-looking picture of it was tempting enough for me to travel to Farrer Park. It's a two-storey indie cafe along a stretch of shophouses. L'etoile means "star" in French, and it's also the symbol of this cafe.

I was quite pleased when I stepped into L'etoile. The cafe was very bright and made use of full length windows. The use of different types of mismatched furniture made the place very colourful and homely. The designer of L'etoile should deserve some award for making it look so pretty and inviting! There are several corners which you can just laze in with your group of friends or with your significant other. Some of my favorite corners:

#1 - By the window on second floor. I love how the curtains blocked out the harsh sun rays and gave the place a soft focus look.

If you look carefully below, this table is actually a sewing machine table. Quite creative to use as a dining table and it gives the place a nostalgic vibe too. One bird kills two stones!

Sad to say, the food was quite forgettable for me. The Matcha Azuki Chiffon Cake ($5.90) was coarse and too dry for my liking. The Chicken Wings ($8) were a bit bland and not flavorful enough, and the portion was quite small for the price. As for the Big Breakfast ($14.90) which was served with toast, potato wedges, mushroom, bacon, sausages, eggs and greens, unfortunately it was more variety than quality. The Strawberry Soda and Ribena Soda ($4.90 each) were nothing to shout about too.

In addition, I don't know why but it can be very noisy when everyone speaks at the same time. I suspect it has got to do with the material used for the ceiling or walls which amplifies the sounds made.

To conclude, I guess the main draw of L'etoile would be its chill vibe, vintage and whimsical decor, instead of the food. There were a lot of couples and groups of friends there. L'etoile also has free wifi and some power plug points (not a lot though.. two hidden behind the big sofa on second floor and two near the window). They also have a collection of travel books and magazines which you can read. It's worth a first visit for a lazy weekend although I don't think I will be going back anytime soon.

Filling my stomach, I had the Big Breakfast ($14.90) on their all-day breakfast menu. With your own preferred choice of egg, I had it scrambled to my liking.
Complete with toasts, bacon, sausages, roasted potatoes and mushrooms, this is surely a feast for any hungry soul! I love how the fluffy scrambled eggs go so well with the toast and the crispy bacon. However, the mushrooms were a little dry.

Overall, the service was prompt as they refill the ice-water frequently and it was an enjoyable lunch dining at the relaxing and clean cafe with great natural lightings for food photography.

I ordered the chicken a la cordon bleu $17.90 and an ice latte for lunch. Its a classic fried chicken breast with succulent ham and cheese ham filling, greens on the side. Presentation wise it was above average and the chicken dish was looking nice golden brown. But i felt it actually loses out to charly-t one, the accompanying sauce also does not compliment the chicken. The ice latte drink was average. Like mentioned earlier, i think its the relaxing ambiance that makes the whole experience better. My friend had the all day breakfast and mint tea. total bill adds up to be $49.10. If i were to gripe on something, its that the waitress make me walk to the counter to pay and not sending the bill to the customer. I know its just 2 steps away but that will go a long mile for good customer service.

The banana nutella toast is simple to make and I love it as it's my favourite combination! We were curious about the Babyccino and so we ordered 2 of that. Well, it really fits it's name! It's like a baby sized cup and it came with a side cookie as well! I will visit this cafe again when I need some quiet time or to hangout with some friends ^^

A two-storey cafe erects just somewhere behind Farrer Park MRT, housed among a row of shophouses.

Interesting cafe with quirky food categories! Bottom storey is quite normal, but has one seating which is sofa type, facing a big glass panel, most suitable for people watching
Upper storey is more interesting, and a very nice section to spend your afternoon away doing some light internet surfing with your devices, and reading some books!

Ordered their big breakfast that has sausages, toast, potato wedges, mushroom, bacon, and scrambled eggs. You are able to choose between scrambled, sunny side, omelette, or overeasy.

Also had their bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Bagel is tough to chew, and too cheesy that almost covers the taste of smoked salmon.

Lastly, their raisin scone and carrot cake. Love their raisin scone, but again, it is hard to bite off. Comes with butter and strawberry jam, which really makes the raisin scone easier to stomach it
I prefer the carrot cake more than raisin scone, as it is moist and smooth to go down my throat. But definitely not people allergic to nuts

I ordered a latte and sesame chiffon cake to enjoy while soaking in the nice ambience of this cafe.

Latte was good however I was a little disappointed with the chiffon cake. It was a little hard I felt.

I am gonna come back to try their all day brunch the next time.

Last but not least, the chef was generous to give us so much seafoods inside Spagetti.

We chatted there, ate there, had our joy there. Overall, we are satisfied their food, environment and services.
