This cafe is quite popular with the lunch crowd at Biopolis. On busy days, you might have to wait quite a while for your food to arrive. A variety of western food is offered here - burgers, sandwiches, baked rice, pasta and pastry. I just wanted a simple dish today so i tried out the chicken baked rice ($8.90++). I liked the rather rich, creamy sauce generously immersing the baked rice. There was also plenty of yummy cheese inside. The chicken pieces were tender as well and plentiful. All-in-all

I dined at the Long Black Cafe that day, outside at their al fresco dining area. It was really windy and cool, nice place to have lunch! It was really creamy and I enjoyed the smooth texture of the soup. The pumpkin was also not too strong and the soup was not too salty too. The beef baked rice was cheesy and they served the rice with pieces of beef slices, not minced beef like some other restaurants do. The beef slices were tender. Their apple flavoured drink was served with pieces of peppermint leaves in it, giving the drink a minty tinge. Not bad a place to have lunch together with friends!

Finding the place wasn't as hard as it was one of the larger cafes located in the Biopolis area and I think its patrons are mostly people from around that area.

We order the lunch sets available while we enjoyed the breezy alfresco seating, which we thought would be too hot in our sunny island. Our food order came and it was a LB Special burger (recommended by my friend and by some other website I think), their seafood baked rice and a chicken mayo sandwich. The portions were quite generous but my table lapped up every drop of their creamy corn soup, which apparently was home made. I loved the caramelized onions and melted cheese on my burger so no complains there.

So for the coffee, we ordered the cappuccino, latte and their Long Black coffee and being foodies, we decided to indulge in a homemade carrot cake to go with it. The coffee art in our latte and cappuccino was perfect, a rarity here in Singapore I think. The beans were roasted JUST RIGHT, so don't expect a burnt aftertaste that you sometimes get at other main stream coffee joints like Starbucks or Coffee Bean. What I REALLY loved about it was the richness of the brew, which I suspect came from their shiny machine that the word mirage on it. (I asked the owner about the machine and he said the machine is one of the best in the industry and is fast while still making sure that each brew is rich in taste and quality. If you want to get one, you can check it out at www.keesvanderwesten.com/mirage-veloce.html)

The coffee went down so well that we ordered a few more so we would have more buzz when we drag ourselves back to work. Would I come back for more coffee fixes? Definitely!
