Misato Ebi Donburi ($10.90+)
Prawn & egg in seasoned broth over rice
It was served with 3 breaded tiger prawns (standing upright), and fried egg with caramelised onions in seasoned broth, over plain rice. The fried egg was decorated with seaweed and colorful looking fish roes.

Cheese Korokke ($5.50+)
The croquettes were made of fluffy mashed potatoes, chopped ham, and mozzarella cheese, served with Yakiniku Sauce (Japanese BBQ sauce). It was covered with a thin crust of crispy crumbs. Nice and cheesy to have.

Grilled Mochi Zenzai ($5.50+)
azuki bean (red bean) and grilled mochi
It was actually hot red bean soup. The red beans were like kidney beans as they were huge in size. The mochi was covered with a crispy crust and had a soft and chewy texture inside. The red soup was just the right thing to have to recover from the cold air con in the cinema hall. It was warm and not too sweet to taste.

Overall the food was great and much effort was used to serve the food in an exquisite way, which made one felt like dining in an atas restaurant.

At the basement of The Cathay, there is a Japanese restaurant which is located near the toilet. Interesting about this restaurant is that there is only about 10 counter seats. It accepts cash and credit cards with 10% service charge. The menu while looks limited, has quite a good range and priced reasonably. After placing order and making payments at the counter, one would be given a number tag. Food will be served to you. Matcha Ice Blended ($4.90)
Uji green tea powder specially blended with whipped cream
It is served on a tray with a sealed straw. There is red bean in the bottom of the drink, therefore it would be better if bigger straw is used so that it would be easier for drinking. The drink is thick and rich with the green tea taste.

Misato Oyakodon ($8.90)
Chicken & egg in seasoned broth over rice
Although it is a common dish, the version is served more atas with the topping of shrimp and fish roes on top. The shrimp roes adds a crunchy popping texture to the dish. The raw egg yolk makes the dish creamier.

Handmade Gyoza ($5.50/ 6 pieces)
The panfried dumplings is served with a thin crispy layer on top, which is not easy to make. The skin is quite thin. Not bad.

The mochi is nicely toasted with a crispy crust, while inside is soft and chewy. Best eat it while it is hot.

Overall the food is not bad. I like that the food is served in exquisite tableware from Japan, which makes it looks so atas. The thing I pick on is that there is a fly which keeps flying around while I am eating. Quite annoying. Service is not bad but a bit slow.

These potato croquettes, which were made with mozzarella cheese, are crispy on the outside, mushy with cheesy goodness on the insides.

Although I'm not a very gyoza person, but I have to say that this impressed me as I thought the steamed grilled chicken and vegetable fillings were really tasty.

You must eat this with squeezed lemon juice. It is slightly salty and spicy, and the added zing from the lemon juice is just the cherry on top.

Is the heart shaped topping signifying the parent-child relationship? Lol.

This oyako-don is so tasty. Basically, Oyako literally means parent-and-child, which refers to the relation of the chicken and egg in the dish. This relationship tastes so delicious! You can also expect a good amount of salmon roe and flying fish roe as toppings, which also comes with a well prepared taste that adds on to the taste of the entire dish.

Loved the presentation of these cold buckwheat noodles. The dipping sauce is really good and having these with wasabi is seriously shiok.

For those who likes salmon, here's one you might like to consider. Grilled salmon glazed with teriyaki sauce, it tastes really good when you eat it with the yellow pickles.

For me, I felt that the curry is slightly salty and I thought it might be better if it were taken down a notch. But I did enjoy the chicken katsu as they are lean and crispy. The chicken was kept warm under the blanket of rice, waiting for you to drizzle the curry on top of it to enjoy.

This is their signature dessert! The matcha ice-cream is mixed with fruit and 2 very prettily decorated mochi 'paws'. The ice-cream boasts a full-bodied matcha flavour and is not overly sweet.

This dessert is quite special to me, as we find the grilled mochi within the green tea liquid, mixed with azuki bean. Mix well and enjoy.

Sanshoku Warabi Mochi ($5.50)

Warabi mochis are not cheap, yet here, they serve up a good quality jelly-type and yet reasonably priced warabi mochi here. It is delicious coated with 3 types of powders: Goma (Sesame), Kinako (Roasted soybean) and Matcha (Green tea). The matcha one is my ultimate favourite, because the green tea powder used was the slightly bitter type, heavily flavoured with the goodness of green tea. I have to say, this is my favourite dessert here.

Low-Down
From this tasting, I can conclude that the people behind Misato do put in alot of effort in presentation and the taste of the food. The Misato folks prepares its food freshly and do not keep leftovers for the day. That's why sometimes, you may find certain foods sold out towards the end of the day.

If you ask me what you definitely cannot skip here, I have to tell you: their desserts. If you know me personally, you will find that I most likely already recommended this place to you.

Overall, their food keeps as closely as possible to the authentic Japanese food as possible, and serves up food which will satisfy you very well.

This is an invited media tasting session.
