My reviews are always based on Location (Accessibility / Convenience), Quality And/Or Quantity, Ambience, Service and last but not least Price.Location. Easily accessible via public transportation as it is nearby the Bugis MRT station and busstops. If you are driving, ample parking lots are available at Golden Landmark Shopping Centre basement and 4th floor. Not too expensive either for half an hour. Rating: 4/5Quality / Quantity. The quality of the item I ordered (Steak) was tender and juicy. However, presentation needs to be improved a notch higher. The fries that came with it was rather undercooked and was too salty for my liking. In terms of quantity, not many positive points as the steak served could barely fill a grown man's appetite. Rating: 3/5Ambience. If it wasn't for the hotel's ambience, I would've thought I was dining in a typical Chinese Restaurant. Decor needs improvement the tables and wooden chairs were already creaking. Thankfully, I didn't fall flat on my butt. Rating: 3.5/5Service. A lot of room for improvement especially if they are serving non-Mandarin speaking diners. 2.5/5Price. For a restaurant in a hotel, I would say that price-wise, it's quite pricey but not to the extent of creating a hole in your pocket. It's better to describe it as a once-in-a-month affair or post-salary dining. Rating: 3.5/5Conclusion, if there are no other restaurants that you can think of if you are in Bugis, than you may make a visit to the restaurant. Or if you are staying in the hotel over the weekends, be sure to try it out. continue reading

My family has been patronizing this restaurant for over 40 years, ever since their original outlet was at Purvis Street, then to Funan Centre basement (some 15-20 years ago) and now at The Village Hotel @ Golden Landmark. Our family favourites that we order every time are Dark Sauce Chicken (thick yummy dark sauce on fried chicken), Hainanese Pork Chop, Egg Foo Yung and Prawn Sambal. They are also known for the Sambal Fried Pomfret though we seldom order it but their sambal is really tasty. Highly recommended for authentic hainanese fare...(as one would expect, it was awesome 40 years ago and although standard has fallen over the generations, it is still pretty good and no where else cooks the dishes I mentioned they way they do). continue reading
