For my mum's birthday, my sister bought a cake from Rive Gauche, a chocolate cake at that. While i marvelled at the design, with something like gold glitters on the top, i thought i would just take a bite just for tasting. But when i took a bite, i liked it immediately. I am not a fan of chocolate cakes but the folks at RG did a fantastic job with the cake. So for any of you out there who doesn't like chocolate cakes much, trust me, give the one at RG a try.

Happened to pass by Rive Gauche in JP and decided to buy their desserts after looking at their wonderful display of cakes. I got the Brownie Bear ($6.50) and Crunchy Cheese Crumbs ($5.80). I am not a big fan of chocolate but I got the Brownie Bear cause of its cute design. The bear cookie on top was just too cute to resist. Anyway its’ aptly named since the base was made up of chocolate cake filled with walnut bits. The chocolate cream on top was very creamy and yet not very sweet. The Crunchy Ch

The Crunchy Cheese Crumbs comes in a small plastic bowl and the top and bottom was lined with cookie crumbs while the middle is made up of cheesecake. The cheesecake is not too dense and so it’s quite a light dessert. I recommended my mum to have a try because it does not have a heavy cheese flavour.

Though the cakes is a little pricey considering the portions, it is definitely worth the price for the taste and quality of the cakes. The price matches the overall feel of the shop and packaging of the cakes too.

One fine day, my friend gave me a surprise by suddenly popping by and delivered a dessert from Rive Gauche. I have never tried their desserts before, always wanted to but never got the chance so imagine my surprise and delight!I had the Matcha Roll with Red Bean and the name explains it all. Not a big fan of green tea but the combination blends (always has) pretty well with each other and so i had no trouble finishing it, though it is quite a heavy dessert with cream, matcha roll and red bean.

Rive Gauche had this 10% off on that day while I was walking past their stall, so I thought I'll try it out. I was always attracted by their items but found it a little expensive. Original price of this cream puff (about five inches in diameter) is $3, so after the 10% discount it was $2.70. My mum is an avid baker of cream puffs, so I thought I'll get her this to try out and see how other bakeries make cream puffs. My mum is an avid baker of cream puffs, so I thought I'll get her this to try out and see how other bakeries make cream puffs. I realized that the cream puffs from Rive Gauche has a strong fragrance of the vanilla extract and also incredibly sweet in a good way, not the cloying way. The size is just nice for one person's tea break. It looks less attractive as compared to their eclairs and cakes but it is very delicious in its own right. After trying it, I think it is worth it to buy this even at its original price. Some "atas" cafes or bakeries don't even reach this standard and are charging exorbitant prices. One thing to note that this outlet does not provide any seating area, you can only buy it for take-away.

The chocolate cake here is seriously good. Its one of the best in my opinion however it commands a really high price tag. The cake sponge is super fluffy moist and soft, and the chocolate mousse is soo rich and decadent. The best part is the chocolate ganache on top which is creamy and thick and coats your mouth with a delicious chocolate taste. The crunchy base is a delight to eat too!

Every time I walk past this shop, I think it's super chic and pretty. Kind of reminds me of those Japanese pastry shops. This time I was attracted to this jar of meringue ($12.90) which is super colourful and beautiful! I have never tried meringue before so maybe it's a good time to try. It's a little too sweet, a bit like candy floss but in hardened form. It melts in the mouth almost immediately when you pop one in, and it's quite addictive too. I quite like it and it also makes for a perfect gift, since it looks so presentable and lovely. The jar is also airtight and can be reused after you finished all the meringue!
