The husband brought home these two delightful treats to cheer me up as I was feeling a little stressed up recently. And they did brighten me up!Sooooooooo cute! That was what I exclaimed when the husband took this out from the box. Though the name was Brownie Bear, it really was just a chocolatey cupcake with chocolate frosting, bear cookie and a sugared bow. The size was quite small so when the husband said this cost $6.50, I was flabbergasted. How expensive for something that you can devour in two bites! The chocolate cake was really rich and chocolatey, moist and bouncy. And the frosting wasn’t overly sweet too. The cookie had a lovely, buttery flavour but wasn’t greasy on the outside. Apparently, the Brownie Bear wasn’t on their regular menu so it was a promotional item for a limited time only. Though overall it tasted good, it wasn’t exceptional and definitely didn’t worth its price tag.Vanilla sponge layered with chestnut filling, whipped cream and topped with a Japanese chestnut. Absolutely delicious! This was one of the best Mont Blancs I ever had. The chestnut puree was smooth and creamy (like eating the Teochew Yam Paste aka Orh Nee) and the chestnut flavour was just so rich and intense with the right amount of sweetness. The sponge was of course soft and moist and the whipped cream wasn’t cloying either. You just have to combine every layer in every bite to enjoy that textural wholesomeness of the cake. Thumbs up! I highly recommend this! For full review and pictures, please go to http://www.springtomorrow.com/2014/01/23/rive-gauche-patisserie-revisited/ continue reading

It was my friend's birthday and we decided to get her a cake from Rive Gauche Patisserie since she had mentioned that she fancies their cakes. We got her the Strawberry Shortcake since she is a fan of strawberries. The cake costs $28. This is the smallest serving size which is just right for us since we had 6 people in total. The strawberry shortcake is quite a creamy cake as the outer layer of the cake is made of cream and in between each strawberry is blops of fresh cream. The cake itself is vanilla sponge cake. There are two layers of vanilla sponge cake, separated by layers of cream. The layers of cream in between the cake also has sliced strawberries. I would say the cake is rather nice if you enjoy a creamy cake. The vanilla sponge is more dry than spongy which is quite a pity to me since I preferred a cake with a moist texture. The cream is very light and it doesn't feel too heavy or indulgent, so one can definitely finish the cake without any problem. Even though it is quite alright, but I didn't feel as though it is exceptionally good. That said, I will like to try their signature chocolate cake next time. continue reading

If you ask me, I only can remember Rive Gauche located at Takashimaya around Food Department there. I had chance to pass by the only take away kiosk, there was no seat available if I am not wrong. The cake was bought from there, it was the most luxurious birthday cake I received this year. Cake was filled with rich silky cream with slices of fluffy butter sponge layer, Yummy. Topped off with two huge Strawberries, it had a very appealing looking. The confection was fresh and light, I was totally drooling when time I was holding it. It would be the best dessert after lunch, especially for those who craving for sweet stuff. Make my wish, I hope everyone around me stay happy always. Haha. continue reading

Custard puffs' lovers must no miss this giant custard puff from Rive Gauche Patisserie. Not just huge in portion, the taste is simply amazing and yummy. Puff texture is very fluffy and soft, which you can really taste the different layers when you munch on it. There are generous amount of smooth and thick custard cream filled in the puff, which is not too sweet and fragrant. Great to have it with a cup of coffee or tea. continue reading
