Roasted Delight is located at the fifth level of JEM, Cook House. Their stall is facing in front of the elevator which is a good location.Looking at the number of roasted meat left hanging through the panels of the cabinets and having no customer in queue, we pondered a while before making our order.Having ordered our meals, we compared between our plates and was stunned over the difference in the volume of noodles given. One of them was like having 1.5 times more. Instead of having the soups in 2 bowls, we asked for everything to be put together - the wantons and shrimp dumplings.Noodles texture was quite alright, nothing to complain about. The amount of Char Siew given was adequate and covered in their sweet sauce but was not proportionate to the noodles volume.Lots of vegetables was given in this plate too.Chicken was tender and coated with the same sweet sauce used for the Char Siew. The volume of noodles on this plate looks better. The soup was rather salty and did not have much flavour in it.Overall, the standard was quite decent only.More food reviews at www.umakemehungry.com continue reading

The worst char siew rice i had ever eaten. The char siew didn't taste like char siew at all and the service was bad! The stall holders (both Malaysian guys) just talked among themselves and not listening to the customers' orders. I am in the first of the queue and I meet to repeat my order twice, and the girl behind repeated 3 times! With this service attitude, I had still had to pay $6.50 for my char siew rice! This is expensive! I can order 2 times in other coffee shop and with better servicing attitude and nicer food! The char siew was bad, it was like some harden meat which is so hard to bite on and the sauce tasted weird! The rice was dry and hard too! continue reading

The Cook House - also Koufu is located on the highest floor of JEM. Its layout reminds me of ION Opera, with interestingly decorated seating partitions. I went for the least adventurous stall in here, Roasted Delight. Generally the chicken/duck rice stall would be a good gauge of the standard of the food court.I ordered the Char Siew Wonton noodles for $4. It is a set with the noodles, a few strands of vegetables, char siew and the bowl of wonton. There are three wontons inside the soup, which I think is quite generous as compared to the Pontian wonton set. The noodles was quite a disappointment because of the sauce it was immersed in; there was too much sesame oil such that the sauce tasted bitter. The noodles were also clumpy and difficult to extract. The char siew was ok, slightly burnt and hard but still more edible than the noodles. I could not finish the noodles despite being rather hungry. The wonton was chewy and delicious, but obviously filled with MSG flavouring. I think they should rely less on artificial flavouring and put more natural ingredients into the food. The service was good though, the food was prepared within less than one minute. I am quite turned off by the white stains on the cutlery though, but all of them looked unclean so I just closed one eye and used them anyway. Even if there is a huge crowd at the new shopping mall, they shouldn't skimp on cleanliness. continue reading
