If you are wondering, prices are more than reasonable. Starters start at $8++, while pastas and mains average at about $15++ and $20++ respectively. Hotpot is also served as one of the ala-carte options. From $16++ to $27++, you can opt for either the Imperial Chicken Broth or the Tom Yam Broth.

Hazelnut Escargots ($14++ for 1/2 dozen / $22++ for a dozen) :: Slow-baked Burgundy snails stuffed with Hazelnut butter and flambéed with brandy right in your face. These interactive moments make the appetizers more well, appetizing. It’s actually quite interesting a combination; I love how fragrant it is, with hints of whatever brandy that remains. A refreshing change of the usual garlicky ones.

Lamb Rendang ($24++) :: I was disappointed with the slow-braised whole lamb shank though. It’s drenched in rendang paste, which came across a little too heavy and sweet for me. Further, the meat was not as soft and tender as I’d like.

Cajun Chicken ($18++) :: It was to my delight that the more unassuming dish, the roasted halved spring chicken, stood out far more. Though roasted very evenly and adequately on the outside, the inside remains, as cliché as it sounds, tender and moist. I don’t like breast meat, but even that was edible. It is accompanied with salad and fries.

Tom Yam Flair ($18++) :: Who would have thought that I’d be able to find an of-standard pasta dish outside of a Italian / Pasta-specialized restaurant? Made with Thai herbs and wine in a mild Tom Yam cream, everything fell into place nicely. I can take spicy food well, and this was daringly spicy. With faint tastes of wine and Thai herbs on the background, fresh seafood, including two huge indulgent scallops, and al-dente pasta, I’d highly recommend anyone to try this.

Durian Pengat ($8++) :: Unfortunately, it doesn’t taste as good as it looks. While the crepe wasn’t overly thick, the durian pulp cocooned in the crepe tasted somewhat artificial.

Sure, there were hits and misses, but it is still a reasonable dining place, away from the crowd at VivoCity. Have the Tom Yam Flair whilst here, or for a safer option, the BBQ Chicken – you should be more than satisfied.

Taking over the space of Rumah Rasah- the former Halal Indonesian restaurant at level 1 of Bay Hotel (conveniently located opposite Vivocity), STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar is the new kid in the house hoping to impress with its extensive array of global flavours and culinary influences from countries all around the world.

The kitchen no longer has its halal certification and is now helmed by Chef Ricky whose specialty is in French and Asian cuisine. And while the predominantly wooden brown decor of the restaurant has not changed, the menu itself has undergone a complete makeover. Looking promising and affordable, the five columned menu has a decent variety of appetizers, meats and seafood, Asian selections and Western offerings of pastas and pizzas.

SALAD

The Caprese $12 makes a visually appealing starter with its selection of interspersed vineyard tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella wrapped in parma ham, finished off with a drizzle of aged balsamico and a couple of fried basil leaves. But while it appeared delightful and appetizing, the elements remained divided and did not quite come together so harmoniously. The portion of parma ham too was dismal while the buffalo mozzarella did not have that semi-soft and creamy consistency it was supposed to. Overall, it was underwhelming and one dimensional.

MEATS & SEAFOOD

Warm up the belly with this Duck Pot Pie $22 which is one of its kind. While most of us are used to a beef, chicken or even rabbit filling, using a duck is decidedly unique and unusual. I warmed up to that delightfully buttery puff pastry which was a comforting pairing with the rich red wine sauce and duck meat which had been slow braised till tender.

This popular European dish of Roulade of Porkloin Stuffed with Wild Rice $20 was uncomplicated, straightforward and downright flavorful. The ingenuity of stuffing the roulade with wild rice added a rustic and earthy element to the lean porkloin while the brandied prune sauce was lip-smacking and complimenting to the overall ensemble.

PIZZAS

One of my favourite dishes of the night, this Orient Barbecue Pizza $18 had just the right amount of Hoisin sauce in the base and a thin crust to boot. Not forgetting the generous distribution of fleshy duck meat slices, I could not help getting seconds, thirds and even fourths of this!

DESSERTS

Fans of the King of fruits, dont leave before having a taste of STREET 50's Durian Pengat $8. Using only real durian pulp and wrapped with a paper-thin crepe, this dessert was an oozing cocoon of creaminess and sweet delight.

Overall, while there were a couple of hits and misses, the food here at STREET 50 has potential and with such a varied menu, I am sure everyone will find something for themselves!

In terms of taste, the tom yum soup tasted better than the chicken broth cause it was more flavorful and the chicken broth was too bland. However, the tom yum soup they served was not like the typical thai tom yum we have but rather, it tasted more like assam to me! Didn't really like any of the soup bases but since this meal was complimentary, I guess there is nothing much I can complain about. Anyway the ingredients for our hot pot was fixed (it comes in a set: one bowl of rice/bee hoon/dong hoon, one small plate of chicken and pork, one small plate of prawns and cockles, one small plate of fish, fishball and sotong ball and one huge plate of vegetables and some yong tau foo ingredients).

The serving seems small to us but we didn't managed to finish everything as not all the ingredients were to our likings. The ingredients were not exactly fresh especially the pork and cockles (the rest were still okay). The vegetables and ytf ingredients were also okay but we were not very keen as we didn't really fancy the soup bases. Overall, I think I still managed to leave the restaurant with 3 quarter filled stomach but don't think I will visit this place for hot pot dinner again (I prefer other restaurants) p.s. i think the hot pot for 2 pax costs $32++.

Street 50 is a newly-established global flavours restaurant that brings you diverse flavours from Italian, French and American to Asian flavours from Vietnam, Indonesia and Singaporean with interesting twists. As such, the array of dishes that they are offering in their menu is really extensive. The restaurant has an intimate, quiet and cosy setting, suitable for couples going on date.

We had hotpot during the tasting session too! Don't you adore these 2 uniquely designed pots, which come in royal blue and royal yellow with dragon designs?
Price – Hot Pot Sets:
Set A (for 2 pax): S$ 32++
Set B (for 2 pax): S$ 48++
Set C (for 4 pax): S$ 108++
The hotpots come with a selection of 2 types of broth and can be served individually or to a group.

Imperial Chicken broth is made rich by simmering chicken for hours in a cauldron.
Siamese Luck is a Tom Yam broth if you need some kick!
I prefer the tom yam broth. Also, there are also at least 10 different types of condiments such as sesame paste, coriander chilli, sa cha sauce for you to dip your food with.

Even though this restaurant is located in a hotel which is not realy that convenient, but because of the good service and delicious food served here, I would not mind the extra effort to travel here. Love the salad bar served in this restaurant which the vegetables served are very fresh and colourful. THeir mini pancakes are also very moist and light in texture too. Not forgetting their crispy potato wedges which are not too oily and really crispy!

Had tried their buffet breakfast during my staycation in this hotel and was really happy with the excellent service provided by the service staffs and management in this STREET 50. Love to eat their different types of western pastries on their buffet spread as they are very crunchy and full of the nice butter flavour. The chocolate muffin is equally good, which is not too sweet as well.
