A very popular choice among Singaporeans and foreigners is this restaurant lying at Wheelock Place, and queues starts as early as 6.30pm because many of the tables have been reserved already. Great environment I must say.. the lights are dimmed, so it seems like the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a chill out session. Seats are comfortable and tables and chairs are spaced out nicely so our conversations will not be heard by other people. One good thing about this restaurant is that it offers private rooms, so you can dine with your friends in these private rooms without any disturbance from other people. However, remember to book your tables early in advance.

We arrived at the restaurant at around 6:15, and the waiter took our orders at 6:20. He mentioned to us that they will only start cooking at 6:30, so our food will arrive after 6:45pm. I did not quite understand the rationale of this, but I did not probe about this since 6:30pm might be their official opening hours. After taking our orders, the dishes came by quite quickly and we were pleased. However, my friend's order never came! They delivered my friend's order to some other table, and after 45minutes, we decided to cancel my friend's dinner and head on to some where else for his dinner. I think that this is not acceptable, even if there are many people coming into the restaurant. After all, we did want to enjoy this dinner at the restaurant, hence I was not very pleased. In any case, I thought the manager should have stepped in to apologise for this mistake, but it did not happen.

I really think that the reviews for Sun with Moon in other places are overrated, and the queues are also quite exaggerated given the quality of the food.

Our first order was the Grilled Mackerel which cost about $17. The portion was quite big, comparable to 1.5 hand palms. There was a lemon to be squeezed on top, and the taste of it was that it was not fishy at all. Even though I am not a fish-lover, it tasted quite delicious and tender. The bones of the fish was also easily removed with the chopsticks, so there would be no worry about getting choked on fish bones.

The next order was a main meal, which was the hamburger steak with mushroom sauce. It was quite delicious, but it tasted like another Japanese restaurant in Singapore that was selling half of its price. It cost around $12.90. The hamburger steak was soft and tender, and the mushroom sauce complimented it very well. The portions are quite small, so no worries about being too full by it.

Next was the Avocado Soft Shell Crab Sushi. This sushi dish cost around $16, and it was delicious! The avocado on top was fresh, and the soft shell crab complimented the rice and avocado very well. It was crunchy yet wrapped around with soft Japanese rice. A must-try I must say! There was not need for any Japanese condiments as well since the sushi was really fresh and delicious.

Our last dish was my friend's set meal, which cost around $24. It was a hamburger steak plus beef pieces set meal, and it came with rice, salad and miso soup. I think that it is quite worth it especially if you are a big eater. The salad was delicious, not your usual salad, but with fresh lettuce, and most importantly, fresh-cut chili bits, lemon and mushrooms. It tasted really refreshing. The beef was also tender, and cooked to the way my friend wanted - medium.

Overall, I must say that although there is a long queue, and service might not have been expected to be like that, I am willing to give this restaurant another try again, as there are still many dishes that I have yet to try.

If you go there during week days (Mon-Thurs), you will even get a 10% discount with your DBS cards, so I think it's worth it.

I ordered the yakiniku set where I get to grill the portions of meat and vegetables on a gas-fired hotplate. The concept is interesting and also the meats were really quite tasty but there was just too little of it. This is only a place for those with money to spend and want a nice place to meetup with equally rich friends.
