Full review is up at http://www.nahmj.com/2015/12/14/coffee-academics-singapore-scotts-squre-orchard/The Coffee Academics from Hong Kong has finally opened an outlet in Singapore. All its cafe seems to have a little different style, including The Coffee Academics Singapore.Interestingly, the interior design of The Coffee Academics Singapore seems to be made up of different theme. At the far right of the cafe was a zen looking square table with tatami-like on the seats. While on its left was a corner filled with bar-like tables. Somehow, the different design components were in harmony.First, we went for the Academics Breakfast. Instead of bacon, ham was dished out instead. The first item that has an ingredient differ from the menu. It was pointed out by one of our diners. I am usually not meticulous with such details. We thought the Scrambled Eggs With Crayfish was a special dish which was unseen on another menu so far. When presented, we were surprised to see caviar.Academics Pancake Tower was the second dish that had look very different from the menu picture and its description. My 2 other diners were disappointed by first and this experience has made it worse. I thought it was fairly well executed, fluffy and lightly sweetened. We chose the Espresso Ice Cream which went well with the dish.Lastly, the cuppa. We ordered a Latte and a Cappuccino. I thought it was as good as the ones served at Hong Kong. A medium acidity, full body with hint of dark berries undertone. The service was under par. And it was slow too. It seems like they are taking forever to get the food ready and serve. We weren’t informed of the substitute of the ingredients in the dishes and so on. In addition, my 2 dinning partners felt the pricing was a little too steep for the quality. Thought tastewise, we thought it was all right. Personally, I am more concern of the service. continue reading

Recently there is a newly opened cafe called The Coffee Academics, taking over the space formerly occupied by Arossa Wine & Grill. The Coffee Academics, origins from Hong Kong, is well known for its coffee. The cafe is quite big and zen in decoration, with japanese style square table with tatami mats around. There is 7 stations:1. Espresso Bar - Featuring our Spirit Triplette by Kees van der Westen2. Tea Academics Bar - Offering a curated tea menu using Steampunk or traditional brewing methods3. Cupping Corner - Where they will host coffee classes and events4. Culinary Counter - Chef's Table experience with a view into our open kitchen5. Custom Blend Concierge - Where customers can book appointments to explore their personal flavour profile and create a bespoke custom blend.6. Hand Brew Bar - Tatami area where customers can sit and enjoy hand-brewed single origin coffees7. Roasting Corner - Where they will be roasting their Custom Blended coffees on-siteCrab and Avocado Salad ($22+)Crab meat, sliced avocado mixed with seasonal green salad, topped with herring roe and signature TCA dressing. The salad is nicely plated, but take care when eating the crab meat as there is small pieces of shell in the meat, which some got stuck between my teeth. I could not taste the dressing in the dish. The crab meat tastes quite fishy to me. But lucky there is buttery avocado to balance the taste.Okinawa ($7.50+)one of the 3 special espresso based coffees available.Cafe latte with Okinawa dark brown sugar.Milky creamy drink with a hint of brown sugar at the top. It is not that exciting as expected.Service is not bad. Prices included 10% service charge. Not crowded during weekday. Total bill was $32.45. continue reading
