Besides enjoying drinks at Fabrika @ Klapsons Boutique Hotel, I also decided to try the lunch at their restaurant, Sleeping Rhino. Donned in a lovely contemporary decor, this tiny bistro-style restaurant consists of a bar counter, a salad bar and some rows of seats (booths and tables). The twinkling lights above the salad bar looked elegant at first but after a while it seemed to cause headache. Service was nothing to speak of as well.Nonetheless, *Sidney and I browsed through the limited menu and decided to go for the All-you-can-eat Salad Buffet (SGD$16.00). The ala carte menu did not leave us a lot of choices and we did not have much appetite - not like there was anything eye catching anyway. The salad counter was rather small as well, and as we circulated it in one small circle, we realized that the variety was limited too.The usual items were some beans, greens and fruits - which were pretty average. However, the Potato Salad deserves a little praise, because the taste was quite good and the potatoes were soft enough to be enjoyable. We decided to share a main course of Steak Sandwich (SGD$9.00 for top-up, ordered with Salad Buffet) which looked decidedly good when it was served - all golden and crispy. Well, the fries were nice and crispy anyway - with light sprinklings of fine chilli powder. The "steak" sandwiched between the crispy slices of bread were really just thin pieces of beef, tender and delicious, but the name "steak" seemed to be laying it a little too thick. The tiny strips of onions enhanced the flavor with tinges of spiciness, and added some sweet crisps to the chewy texture of the beef. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/08/lunch-at-sleeping-rhino-restaurant.html continue reading

Go for the 50% discount deal, not sure when it ends. It's a great place for lunch, i've tried the Wagyu steak sandwich which was decent, but the steak burger is pretty amazing, with fries that's cooked to perfection. If you can afford a 500 calories lunch, go for it!Went for the set lunch today - grilled barramundi, pretty decent, but honestly pricey for the area at $22 ++, came up to about $35. continue reading

Was rather intrigued by the name, "The Sleeping Rhino", so decided to drop by one evening with the missus for dinner. It definitely helped that there was a 50% discount courtesy of my palate card.Located on the ground floor of Klapsons The Boutique Hotel at Tanjong Pagar, The Sleeping Rhino offers a view of the surrounding pedestrian walkway and vehicular roads through towering floor to ceiling windows. For a little more privacy, opt for the booth seats furthest away from the windows.Complimentary Bread - The complimentary bread roll came a little crusty and warm. Together with a small container of store bought butter, it made for a nice and simple way to start off. Pomodoro Penne with Cajun Smoked Chicken - Al dente penne tossed in a mildly tart pomodoro sauce and topped with chunks of savoury cajun chicken - simple yet satisfying. The only gripe I had was the lack of smokiness in the chicken.Wagyu Beef Burger - The beef patty was done up to medium well but seemed a little drier than expected. Flavours were decent and I liked the addition of the runny yolk sunny side up atop, which gave the burger an overall smooth and rich finish. Unfortunately the bun was crisp but dry and tasteless.Tiramisu - Circular in shape, the tiramisu's portion was rather small with the sponge fingers a little too soaked in kahlua. The mascarpone cheese seemed a little diluted which definitely didn't help matters. All in all a very average rendition of this Italian classic dessert. Dinner for 2 pax came to almost $38 with a 50% discount ($75.33 without). Overall food quality hovered around the average mark and prices were honestly on the high side for the corresponding quality. Service was good though but that could be due to the fact that we were the only table that evening (although another couple did come in when we were just about to leave). Located in the Klapsons Boutique Hotel, The Sleeping Rhino is such a quiet dining place. A hidden jade kind of. At the price of $55++ per person, you will get a 3-course-dinner. They were doing the 1-for-1 promotion during our visit, so do check it out if the deal is still on. Very worth while! Upon waiting for our appetizers, the staff serves the complimentary warm toasted bun to us, with a generous amount of butter (2 for each person). For the appetizer, there is a choice of soup or salad. The Roasted mushroom soup is served with cream truffle oil, very comforting but tastes slightly too plain. The Avocado, mango and prawn salad is served with shiso cress, lettuce and balsamic dressing. Very light, but it would taste so much better if the mango is sweeter. For mains, Macadamia-crusted salmon fillet is perfectly cooked, the macademia crusted skin has a great texture with aromatic nutty flavour. It is served with seasonal vegetable, potato and lemon butter sauce. Double-cooked pork rib has to be the signature dish of the restaurant! The juicy meat is marinated with the chef's secret barbeque sauce and it's so flavourful. Served with seasonal vegetable and mashed potato, it's a thumbs up dish for me! The Dessert of chef's choice is the yam, lychee cheesecake? It has the cheesecake texture, but full flavour of yam, and the sweetness of the lychee blends in so well to the dessert. Complicated yet surprisingly delicious. continue reading
