Chef Fabian, the managing director of Western Chow, goes by the saying, "Oldies are Goodies". He believes in rekindling the taste buds of his customers like those days of the Hainanese serving their British colonial masters. Also, it's the pleasure of mixing a feeling of nostalgia with good memories with the authentic taste of the food. Chef Fabian is also a firm believer in consistency and quality of the food served just like how is it prepared during the good old days.

Let's check out which some the dishes which captured my taste buds and appetite over at Western Chow.

Chilled Mash Potato Salad with Chicken Ham ($2.50)
Served in a sundae glass, one could easily mistaken it as an ice-cream from afar. However, it's a delectable appetizer which got me loving it. The ham gave it a taste while the cucumber added texture. Simple dish, but I felt very heart warming eating this.

French Fries with Cheese Dip ($3.50)
The French fries was prepared the good old way but the cheese dip was somehow special. The rich creamy cheese sauce tasted a little spicy and tangy compared to those normal ones. Very addictive I would say.

Seafood Spaghetti Aglio Olio ($6.50)
The texture of the spaghetti was just nice and tasted well to the bite. I love the fresh seafood used, especially the huge juicy scallop which I felt sheer indulgence as I sink my teeth into it. My favourite dish out of all and I would give three thumbs up for it!

Ox-Tail Stew ($8.50)
The thick stew is accompanied by the soft and tender gelatinous meat which slides off the bones easily. Flavoursome, hearty and delicious! What more can I say about this? This is surely one of the must try at Western Chow!

Grilled Fish with Assam Sauce ($6.00)
With a fusion twist, this is one dish which marries the Western grilled herb dory fillet with Asian Assam sauce over it. The Assam sauce was splendid and it will set your tongue on fire if you're careful with it. It was done just right and I still can taste a tinge of the herbs seasoning on the dory fillet. Spicy food lovers, you have found your match with this!

NZ Ribeye ($14.00)
Fantastically done as it remained tender and succulent. With some fatty portion of steak in it, the steak was kept from drying out and gave it additional flavours. Beef lovers will no doubt love this!

Where else can you find good old delicious Western food at such an affordable price? You gotta be at Western Chow to savour it all!

I I never heard of western chow before, hence after knowing that I'm going to this place, I decided to google search for some info. Western Chow has a total of three restaurants in Singapore - Bishan, Lorong Ah Soo and Bedok. The one I went to is at Bedok.

For a starter, we had french fries ($1.50) with cheese dips. The cheese dip is super yummy
. Everyone of us enjoyed dipping the hot french fries into the cheese dip. This is something that you can't miss!


We also had fried chicken wings ($1.20), chicken nuggets (5 pcs - $2.50) and mashed potato salad with ham (cold ($2.50). The chicken wings are juicy and nicely fried.

Next, main dishes are served. Black Pepper Chicken ($5.90), a dish highly recommended by Chef Fabian. The chicken is grilled to the perfection – tender and juicy. I love the Spaghetti Aglio Olio with seafood ($6.00), wow, simply delicious!!
The spaghetti is not soggy and oily, a perfect dish for people who enjoyed having spaghetti but worried about the fats from those creamy sauce.

We had Grilled Fish with Assam Sauce ($6.00). This is a perfect fish dish for people who love spicy and sour food. The fish served is very fresh and yes I personally love this dish because I love spicy and sour food. For cheese lovers – don’t miss the Cheese Chicken ($6.50) and Baked Beef Cheese Rice ($6.90). A must try dish for people who loves cheese just like me
. If you a steak lover, don’t miss out the Black Pepper Ribeye ($14.00). The steak is very juicy and tender.

The drinks selection is pretty limited so most of us ordered root beer float – an old time favorite for most of us. There are a lot of other choices of food such as Lamb Rack Mega ($14.00) and Ox-tail Stew ($8.50), to name a few. So guys, what are you waiting for, let’s go to Western Chow! You will be spoilt for their wide choices of food!

When I first stepped into Western Chow, I felt totally at home. Since white was the main colour of the restaurant, it made the place very spacious and welcoming. When I first stepped into Western Chow, I felt totally at home. Since white was the main colour of the restaurant, it made the place very spacious and welcoming.

The Ox-tail Stew was very fragrant with a generous portion of gravy, potatoes, carrots and of course ox-tail meat. The meat was tender and came off easily from the bone. It did not have any pungent smell. Very well-cooked indeed.

The Root Beer Float was awesome! It arrived in a tall glass with a huge scoop of ice-cream! Best consumed after mixing the ice-cream with the root beer. Heaven~!


I enjoyed my dinner at Western Chow. An affordable Western Food restaurant in cozy Simpang Bedok which opens til late. I will visit again soon!

A Truly Hidden Gem for lucky East side gluttons!

Went there for dinner earlier this month. Maybe like what the boss said, it was a weekday night, thats why it wasn't really crowded. That's not bad either! Like having the restaurant all to ourselves. To the food!

Cheese Dip Fries ($2) is a great starter while you wait for the main... The yummy cheese dip perks your appetite and prep you for more. In fact, we had a second serving cos we love the cheese dip! You can dip almost everything into the cheese and have it go along perfectly!

The Rosemary Lamb Rack ($10) was a bit difficult on under the knife, but once you have it in your mouth, it's all worth it! The lamb is tender and juicy with a very nice pinkish colour. The lil bit of lamb skin present was grilled to crisp. Some might be afraid of the lamb smell but they used rosemary to hide it very well. It not like other lamb racks that i've eaten which were more or less difficult to chew. This is tender and very easy chewing even for old ppl's dentures!


The Seafood Aglio Olio ($6.50) is another big hit. The moment it's served, you can smell a pleasant hint of garlic. The taste is indescribable. It's our favourite dish for the night. I apologise for being unable to describe its wonderful taste. You'll have to try it to know it and remember to eat it while its hot! We had second round for this too!

Overall, the food is very delicious and the service is good. It might be because it was one a quieter weekday night but their staff is friendly enough to guarantee great efforts to serve us well. I think it's rather value for money and the standard is at least on par with many other western restaurant chains like _____. (fill in the blanks!) Oh and did i mention that it's halal? Even if i already did... THE RESTAURANT IS HALAL MY DEAR MUSLIM FRIENDS! YEA!

Do not be fooled by this Halal restaurant's bland appearance on Bedok Road because the food and service screams anything but so.ServiceChef Fabian is one of those chefs who takes on the dual duty of going hands-on preparing meals in the kitchen and also making the effort to come out and mingle with the guests whenever he could. Price & Ambiance
Food were definitely value for money. The place also opens till 1 a.m, so it is great for people living in the east to meet up for supper. There is also flat screen TV, so yes for all you World Cup fans, you won't miss your matches.

Each dish was well thought out and one-of-a-kind - from the starters, to the main course, to the drinks and even the condiments!

I can't really say much about the Lamb Rack Mega I ordered ($14) because - and I'm quite embarrassed to admit this - I was so addicted to the starters and drinks, I lose all self control such that when it came to the main course, I was already full and couldn't quite enjoy it to the fullest capacity. But really, can you blame me? Just look at those starters if you will, please! The mashed potato salad with ham served cold, though sounds very ordinary on the menu at first, looks anything but so. It was interestingly served in a cup that made the whole dish look like ice cream. And how exactly did he make such a boring dish so flavorful?

Then there were the nuggets, chicken wings and fries which were true to Chef Fabian's words: Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Dip these sinful starters into the nacho-cheese-based special sauce of Chef Fabian, and off to foodie heaven I go!

I have the Lamb Rack Mega for the main course and didn't find it anything fantastic (price or taste or uniqueness), but like I said, it could just be the fact that my taste buds were biased and still lusting after the starters. The Ice Tea Cino (a deadly combination of milk, tea and whipped cream) didn't help with my digestion either.

Oh dear, it is pretty late now and what is that I hear? My stomach craving for another round of nuggets, chicken wings and special cheese sauce! Wonder what still open in the East at 9 p.m...
