Do give Zhao An Granny Grass Jelly a try if you are looking for desserts in Golden Mile Food Centre. Famous for their grass jelly, it was said that they were produced based on special recipe handed down from their granny.Grass Jelly and longans were served in a traditional white and blue porcelain bowl with metal spoon, topped with a handful of shaved ice which looked coarse but in fact, soft in texture.Grass Jelly was wobbly and smooth with a tad bitterness in it to to the use of herbs in its ingredients. However the sugar syrup and the sweetness from the longan complements this bitterness well. Refreshing and soothing to the body! Though they may be a little more expensive than the usual ones, I will still be back for more! For more reviews, visit www.umakemehungry.com continue reading

I had never thought much of a bowl of grass jelly (chin chow) until I read this food blogger's review of the chin chow sold by this old lady at her stall. As I had my lunch at Goldenmile Food Centre, I decided to check out this stall as well. Usually, the syrup in the bowl of grass jelly is high on the sweet side and it sort of override the taste of chin chow. However, the syrup in this bowl of chin chow had just the right level of sweetness, which complement well with the bitterness of grass jelly. I guess this is the right taste of the chin chow dessert! You could also choose to add toppings which include atap seed, longans, sea coconut etc. continue reading

This is my type of dessert. This popular stall at Golden Mile Food Centre served simple and refreshing desserts. The grass jelly got a smooth and soft texture. I always added longan to go with it. The sweetness is just right. It served with shaved ice. A good choice to complete a meal. Sometimes, a bowl is not enough. You need another bowl to make it complete. This is how addictive it can be. Recommended. continue reading

This is a famous stall offers grass jelly for many years using a recipe handed down by their granny. The first thing that caught my attention gotta be the certificate by Makansutra for 2011. It stated 6 chopsticks awarded for this stall to give it the 'die die must try' status. I ordered longan with grass jelly for $1.80 if without topping then it will be only $1.30. This was my first time trying out their grass jelly and i absolutely loved it. This probably is one of the best grass jelly that i have eaten if not the best. The grass jelly was slippery, smooth and soft that gave it the right balance in between the texture and the taste. It tasted a little bitter with a slight herbal taste. The sweetness level was just right. The grass jelly is handmade right at the stall hence their quality is definitely assured. This is a refreshing dessert particularly on a crazy hot day. continue reading

Zhoa An Granny's iced grass jelly. We need this kinda dessert in this hot humid weather! This cooling dessert is really soothing! Rather soft and chewy. It's quite blend though. Every time i ordered, the aunty always put very little sugar syrup. Probably good for health but it's too blend for me. Remember to ask her to add more if you want something sweeter! continue reading
