Finally I managed to try out the cakes at Marmalade Pantry on a weekday afternoon together with a friend as I was on leave. It's always so difficult to get a table at Marmalade Pantry on weekends, so I was glad that I finally had this chance to have time for afternoon tea there. Although it was a weekday afternoon, the restaurant was almost full, just that there was no long queue to get in. We doubted that we could finish the high-tea set, so we decided to order 2 cakes and a pot of Sakura Green
Although it was a weekday afternoon, the restaurant was almost full, just that there was no long queue to get in. We doubted that we could finish the high-tea set, so we decided to order 2 cakes and a pot of Sakura Green Tea to share.
The waiter told us that cakes were 1 of their most popular food items, in particularly the Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge Cake and The Marmalade Carrot Cake (both $7.80++ per slice). We only requested for the carrot cake as choc fudge sounded too heavy for me. The other cake we ordered was the Classic Baked Apple Pie ($6.80++ per slice).
The Marmalade Carrot Cake was really good! I thought Cedele's carrot cake was already very good, but I think this one beats Cedele's, and it was a very big & tall slice! The cake wasn't too sweet. It was spongy and the cream cheese layer blended well with the cake, but my friend didn't like cream cheese and left it out. As for the Classic Baked Apple Pie, both of us didn't really like the crust as it's not the buttery crumbled type that we prefer. The apples in the pie were slightly sour though, and they were generous with the sliced apple fillings.
I will come here again next time for the afternoon high tea set & cakes again!
