As the dumpling festival is just round the corner, we’ve decided to try out the festive offerings from Crystal Jade.Deluxe Rice Dumpling ($11.80)A hearty portion of glutinous rice and green bean encasing pieces of roast duck, roasted pork pork belly, conpoy, chestnut and salted egg. The taste is pretty interesting (possibly due to the addition of green bean paste?) unlike the usual dumplings we are used to having. However, the amount and quality of ingredients do not justify the hefty price tag.

A hearty portion of glutinous rice and green bean encasing pieces of roast duck, roasted pork pork belly, conpoy, chestnut and salted egg. The taste is pretty interesting (possibly due to the addition of green bean paste?) unlike the usual dumplings we are used to having. However, the amount and quality of ingredients do not justify the hefty price tag. There was only 1 piece of roasted duck and a few pieces of roasted pork and pork belly.
Abalone Dumpling ($23.80)
If the deluxe rice dumpling (DRD) was not worth the price tag, this is definitely a rip off! Basically, what you get is DRD + a tiny piece of abalone, period. As with the former, the dumpling was fragrant and tasty. However, $12 more for a small piece of abalone is simply unacceptable!
This is a very refreshing change from the usual savoury dumplings and is really yummy! The dumplings (or rather, jellies) are soft and chewy and helps in relieving some of the “jer lat” feeling that comes with whooping down half a giant DRD. Highly recommended!
