The Grandstand, formerly Turf City, just off Eng Neo Avenue & Dunearn Road. There is free parking and ample seating here. Hansang has an extensive menu at the largest of its three restaurants, with a choice of table BBQ, hotpot, Korean staples such as Bibimbap, Kimchi Jigae, Mandu, Pajeon & Samgyetang and popular Chinese zi-char dishes such as Prawn Paste Chicken, Pork Rib & Sweet Sour Pork. The waiter who ushered us to our table, however, encouraged to opt for the hotpot buffet lunch at $19.90++ per adult.
All the buffet items are displayed on a long skirted table spanning the entire width of the restaurant. Here is a list of the items available when we visited on Saturday 15 Dec 2012 afternoon:
Cooked Items - Bulgogi, Sweet & Spicy Beef, Fried Glass Noodles, Egg Fried Rice
Raw Meat - Good quality Lean Beef, Lean Chicken, Lean Pork (No Belly Pork)
Green salad with shrimps, 2 kinds of kimchi, spinach, taugeh
4 kinds of mini sushi (see photo)
2 types of raw vegetables- long cabbage, shanghai green
3 types of mushroom - button, shitake, enoki
3 types of balls - prawn, squid, vegetable (no tofu)
Soup base - Choice of Kimchi Soup or Seaweed Soup
Fruit - Watermelon (no choice)
Free flow of warm or iced Barley Tea
While the range of items offered for the buffet here is less than Seoul Garden, what impressed us was the excellent quality of the lean cuts of beef and pork ie quality to compensate for the lesser variety. The meat, vegetables and mushrooms were regularly replenished till as late as 3pm. Although it was past 1pm when we arrived, we took our time to enjoy our food, with the staff telling us to take anything else we wanted at 3:30pm. It was almost 4pm when we were presented with the bill.
We had fair value and ate our fill for the price paid; we didn't need dinner that night. Will drop by if I am in the Bukit Timah vicinity but I won't make a detour here. I would prefer to pay a little more to patronize other Korean-operated buffet restaurants such as Ssikkek BBQ in Novena Ville where there are more types of meats/cuts including belly pork and sausaged which are not available at Hansang's buffet.
