I visited HanSang Korean Restaurant when I was at the Grandstand for shopping. I tried the chicken porridge. The grain had boiled till soft and the taste was bland. My porridge went with beef roll. It had made less oily as the porridge water washed away the oil at the same time. I tried the chicken roll. The chicken was chewy and the sauce was sweet. The next grain I tried was the mixed grain, a healthy grain. I mixed with raddish kimichi and with multiple coloured vegetable, Korean salad.

There were quite a lot of people dining at this place when we were there and most of them are having buffet style which you can eat all you want from a buffet bar in the middle of the restaurant. We decided to just go for a la carte meal instead after taking a look at the price and the buffet dishes being displayed (Not much choices, high in price so not value for $).

In term of staff, I do not think they were very friendly type though I would say they were not rude too. Just normal serving and you must get their attention in order to get what you wanted. We just looked through the menu and chat while waiting for our dishes to be served.

One thing to note about these side dishes were that they are only set of serving per table. You need to ask the staff to refill any finished dish so we need to get the staff attention to refill these plates every now and then as 3 of us were eating such a small dish. The Kimichi were very spicy which was not really to my likely while the potato salad seems nicer to eat. Peanuts were too hard and rest nothing much to comment.

This set comes with a stone pot rice and so called “Side dish” which were those photos I took above. We order a total of 4 set meals yet just 1 set of side dish. You need to mixed the rice as soon as it was being served as it was super hot and the rice might get burned (Which mine already got some burned at the side) if you were slow. The hot rice was quite nice to eat though the rice itself should be using those cheapo type as they do not taste really nice to eat.

Cooking style the same as those saba fish type except this dish was using mackerel as the ingredient. Not bad and it was nicely cooked and prepared.

This was a pork meat soup based on kimchi and as I said earlier, the kimchi served here was too spicy for my likely so I did not really drink this soup except for the ingredients inside like mushroom, meat, and beancurd.

The bulgogi chicken was not bad in term of taste though I think I was looking for water when I was eating this dish. It seems like they had added some ingredients which cause my throat dry and requesting for water to wash it away (Hope was not MSG).

Among the dishes, I enjoyed thd beef stew in sweet pumpkin. The beef is tender and taste like oxtail. The pumpkin is soft and sweet. It is the best dish. Also, I enjoyed the desset - rice cake with bean paste. The rice cake is colourful and soft.

Very spacious and clean! But luckily for us , upon after our payment for meal and right before we left there was a power outrage. The staff were attentive and helpful to our requests. We ordered the seafood pancake, bulgogi chicken and rice, kimchi stew, and bibimbap. The smell the taste the sight of it was just so tempting! Kimchi stew was in my mind ever since I started watching Running Man. The ingredients were all fresh and toppoki was sticky (in a good way), paired off well with the soup base and tasted great!

The easiest way to get here is by car and there's a whole load of carpark spaces. There's a new Pasar Bella here now and more stuff to browse around ever since they renovated.

Located at The Grandstand, which was formerly known as Turf City, HanSang is a spacious restaurant with a central kitchen and even a Lotte Mart within its premises. I headed here to grab a takeaway lunch as my workplace was nearby. In the afternoon, the place was quiet but the restaurant looked like it could house about 100 people. I ordered the Jap Chae and it came within 10 minutes. It totally reminded me of the chinese fried tang hoon. The portion was huge and this could easily feed 2. Noodles were tangy but I would have liked more ingredients in the noodles as this only came with shredded eggs, some mushrooms, carrots and spinach. Perhaps they could add some sweet potato sticks. Nevertheless, a very yummy lunch!

There was ice cream available as well for buffet customers. Though it's not my kind of ice cream. The quality is just not there.

As I went there with a couple of friends, I didn't really get to taste much of it but the meat was awesome and juicy and fresh.

We also tried their pancake with ice cream. The pancake was average on it's own but when paired with the ice cream, the sweetness in the ice cream brings out the savoury in the pancake. It was a good combination.

Korean BBQ are always on the steep side of the scale when it comes to the price. For this restaurant I think the price is average.

Very well marinated with their house special sauce, it is sweet and juicy and very soft. BBQ-ed it till medium and you can actually taste the freshness of the meat. Though it is quite pricey, I would still love to have it next time as it is definitely worth the bucks!

I would also recommend the Kimchi soup as it is super yummy, not too spicy and refreshing after all the oily bbq meat.

The waiter who ushered us to our table, however, encouraged to opt for the hotpot buffet lunch at $19.90++ per adult.

All the buffet items are displayed on a long skirted table spanning the entire width of the restaurant. Here is a list of the items available when we visited on Saturday 15 Dec 2012 afternoon:

Cooked Items - Bulgogi, Sweet & Spicy Beef, Fried Glass Noodles, Egg Fried Rice
Raw Meat - Good quality Lean Beef, Lean Chicken, Lean Pork (No Belly Pork)
Green salad with shrimps, 2 kinds of kimchi, spinach, taugeh
4 kinds of mini sushi (see photo)
2 types of raw vegetables- long cabbage, shanghai green
3 types of mushroom - button, shitake, enoki
3 types of balls - prawn, squid, vegetable (no tofu)
Soup base - Choice of Kimchi Soup or Seaweed Soup
Fruit - Watermelon (no choice)
Free flow of warm or iced Barley Tea

While the range of items offered for the buffet here is less than Seoul Garden, what impressed us was the excellent quality of the lean cuts of beef and pork ie quality to compensate for the lesser variety. The meat, vegetables and mushrooms were regularly replenished till as late as 3pm. Although it was past 1pm when we arrived, we took our time to enjoy our food, with the staff telling us to take anything else we wanted at 3:30pm. It was almost 4pm when we were presented with the bill.

We had fair value and ate our fill for the price paid; we didn't need dinner that night. Will drop by if I am in the Bukit Timah vicinity but I won't make a detour here. I would prefer to pay a little more to patronize other Korean-operated buffet restaurants such as Ssikkek BBQ in Novena Ville where there are more types of meats/cuts including belly pork and sausaged which are not available at Hansang's buffet.
