This is the second time I came to Ichiban Boshi at Vivocity after it opened few months back. I chose this place as we wanted to celebrate my mum's birthday and since my brother is footing the bill, I thought this was a good quality Japanese place that will not burn a hole in his pocket.Unfortunately my mother doesn't feel like eating fish so she ordered the ten-don, which is tempura on rice. Unfortunately my mother doesn't feel like eating fish so she ordered the ten-don, which is tempura on rice. The ingredients were freshly fried and not too oily. Brother took the Teriyaki Chicken don, which came with big chunky pieces of well-marinated teriyaki chicken. My mother also chose a new item on the menu to share-- enoki mushroom in butter soup. What we didn't realise is that it is really more a soup than a dish.. so the mushrooms were very little. It is cooked/steamed in an aluminium foil but I must say the butter soup is quite unique.
I was greedy and ordered 2 sides--tofu salad and tonkatsu. Tonkatsu's meat was very huge chunk which is great because it means Im not just eating batter. And the tofu salad was surprisingly good! I love the sesame dressing and even if I eat it on its own I think it will fill me up. We spent a total of $70 which is quite value for money for 5 dishes!
