I ordered a Teriyaki Chicken + Mac & Cheese + Onion Rings for $7.90. This is the usual Chicken + 2 Hot Side Dishes combo which I think is the most worth it (Money vs. Level of Fullness). As compared to the other Astons branches that I've been to, like the one at Suntec City/Cathay/Jurong East, this one serves it the best.
The teriyaki chicken was especially juicy and tender, and the entire piece is consistent in texture. Neatly done and the sauce is also rich in the teriyaki flavour without being overwhelming. Great job! But the other side of the chicken was quite burnt so I had to take out the burnt parts which are very carcinogenic (I am very particular about this).
The onion rings was okay. I think it might be overly-fried and tastes like the oil has been reused for quite a few times. But we cannot really dictate much about that since we are not cooking it ourselves...
The mac & cheese was kind of weird, but not a bad kind of weird. The flavour has not sense of creaminess that normal mac & cheese should have, it's just full of cheddar cheese. But it turns out okay.
The Service
The ptifall of most services are many customers at one go. The staff kept us waiting for quite a long time - one of them even pretended not to see our signal or she just forgot. Another was too busy attending to two tables. Finally a third staff noticed us and took our orders. That was bad. But that was the end of it anyway.
The Ambience
I like the temperature and the ambience in Bugis+'s Astons because it is quite cozy. This branch is quite small, actually.
Price
I think this Astons is more expensive that the hawker centre Astons but for obvious reasons. Better ambience, better food... not so much of the service though.
Overall
Quite a wonderful dining experience because the chicken was good and I was very hungry. It was a relief to finally see a restaurant which I like.
