Went to get a Ramen set lunch today at Menya Musashi @ ION at only $13.90. The staff are pretty friendly here so I guess it was a pleasant experience even thought the food wasn't as fantastic as I'd expected. Upon entering, you'll be greeted with a Japanese-Chinese fusion modern decor, with lots of matted and glossy black & red panels.I ordered the white ramen, with a side dish of fried tofu. The white ramen broth is much much better than I expected, it's richer and thicker than most cheap ramen
I ordered the white ramen, with a side dish of fried tofu. The white ramen broth is much much better than I expected, it's richer and thicker than most cheap ramen chains in Singapore, but I was slightly disappointed by the noodles. They were a bit too overcooked for my liking and I'd like it a bit springier. Apart from that, the rest was all good. The egg was cooked to perfection with the yolk semi-solid, and the braised pork had a nice smoky flavour to it. Pity they only gave one slice for the lunch set instead of the usual 3?
The tofu was very light even though it had been deep fried to golden perfection -the light soy sauce it was in made it a delight to tuck into. Garnished with spring onion, bonito flakes and seaweed, it was delicious -the inside of the tofu was still soft and delicate while the outside was a fine, crispy layer that was piping hot.
I would say that for $13.90, the set is quite worth it as it gets you a ramen and side dish, which I might add is quite filling and definitely substantial enough. Not the best ramen you'll taste, but above average.
