Ah, today was an interesting day for me. Besides my virgin try at sampling french food in a coffeshop, I was approached by a filming crew for a local chinese documentary on current affairs for a little interview. Le Cuisson is located in a corner of the coffeshop here, which might be a bit easy to miss. As a first try, I ordered the mushroom pasta main course ($8), which is actually the cheapest main. I was also attracted to the offer of a free soup or salad with any main course ordered for lunch. They had no soup for the day, so I was given a bowl of salad.
Presentation-wise, the food looked good. The salad given was quite a substantial bowl, with "higher-grade" fresh salad items like rocket leaves and purple lettuce. It was drizzled with a tangy, mustard vinaigrette sauce. Nice!
The al dente pasta came with nicely roasted mushrooms with a lovely poached egg atop. Although the description of the dish stated a cream sauce, I felt it tasted more like butter was used in the cooking and not much cream. Hence, it was a tad oily for my taste. Overall, it's still a pretty good pasta dish though
Will re-visit the place if I'm up for french food again. At least I feel more of my $ goes into the quality of the food.
