I had an opportunity to try out the Silver Garden restaurant as we were planning for a dinner treat for the family. Alexandra retail centre is a good place to visit on a Saturday evening if you loathe the crowd. Besides, parking is free there on weekends! Once I realized that the restaurant is part of the Qian Xi group of restaurants, I felt a bit more assured and was willing to give it a try. Once I realized that the restaurant is part of the Qian Xi group of restaurants, I felt a bit more assured and was willing to give it a try. My prior experience with another restaurant, Hilltop garden was good as the food offered for their wedding banquets was one of the best I've had.
For our group of five adults and a child, we ordered the set menu for 4 pax ($78++) with an additional order of half a peking duck, noodles to be cooked with the duck meat from the peking duck, and an interesting charcoal tofu dish.
Service was good and the staff were pretty tolerant of my two-year-old nephew who couldn't sit still for long and kept wanting to dash out of the restaurant.
Our cold dish combination was presented exquisitely. The roasted pork belly's skin was crackling crispy and the meat tender. The fried stuffed you tiao is nothing special but it was also crispy.
Ah, the peking duck was good. The skin was roasted well and the accompanying sauce went well with the crepe, sliced cucumber and fresh spring onion. Recommended~!
For the remaining duck meat from the peking duck, it was used to cook up a dish of yee fu noodles. The noodles were fragrant and the flavoring good.
The crab meat fish maw soup could be better though. Although the amounts of crab meat and fish maw were abundant, the flavor could be improved upon, as I feel it has a slightly sweetish taste to it. I would have preferred a more savory broth.
The tofu (supposedly from Japan) looked really interesting and tasted pretty good! The tofu was fragrant, soft and smooth. The gravy that topped the tofu was also delicious.
I was really impressed with the roasted chicken. The well-marinated flesh was very tender! The skin on the outside was roasted till just crispy and was very nice.
The Chinese spinach was quite good as well, with a tasty broth. The spinach used was very fresh and a large serving was given with plenty of salted egg & century egg too.
The dessert was a bit sweet but still quite refreshing and was a nice end to the meal.
I enjoyed my dinner here and will definitely come back again! I noticed that they have separate VIP rooms that you can book for private functions. Ah, this will be good for family gatherings with 2-3 tables.
For now, there's a promotion of 20% off the ala carte or set menu with UOB card, with a minimum spend of $100.
