I headed over to ION for my Japanese curry rice fix and decided to try Monster Curry! I ordered the Pork Katsu Curry ($14) with the spiciness level (Normal, Extra Hot, Very Hot, Super Hot, Monster Hot) at Extra Hot. The portion was literally, a monster size! I was greeted by a giant plate of rice with generous amounts of curry doled at the side. The presentation may not be much and the katsu wasn't fantastic either(You can get better katsu elsewhere), but the curry was just the right flavor in m
The spiciness level was just right for me too. Honestly I am a huge fan of spicy food and curries but spicy Japanese curries seemed like an odd combination for me, so the Extra Hot level was just nice. It was definitely more spicy than the normal japanese curries you would find in other japanese restaurants, but it had a peppery zing to it that was very refreshing.
The plate was so huge that I could barely finish it, leaving about 1/3 untouched. If you are a small eater or if you happened to be not-very-hungry, I'd recommend the plate to share (Monster Combo Curry at $21). It's sharing friendly and comes with an assortment of katsus to go with the curry -great to try out everything at once without being stuffed!
