Nantsuttei is a name that you will expect in top-ramen-in-Singapore lists. Previously housed in Millenia Walk, Nantsuttei has since reopened at the equally quiet Orchard Central. As usual, I got their Ramen Bowl, which is the basic ramen choice without any add-ons. I didn't have a good impression of Nantsuttei's ramen during my visit at its previous outlet, but there are so many ravings about this legendary ramen place that I thought I had to give it a second chance. The ramen base is thick, very savoury, fragrant with distinctly garlic and sesame. Towards the end, it was getting to be very oily and I didn't manage to finish it. The ratio of the beansprouts to the whole serving was much better managed though. The ramen noodles, the thinner sort, were up of decent standard, springy enough and not overcooked.

Nantsuttei's lunch promotion - add a dollar and you'll get a side dish (gyoza/ wonton/ curry han-butamanma), a dessert and a soft drink. Of course we did. The wonton were soaked in a sauce that may erred on the side of being a little diluted, but it was quite delicious.

The dessert is almond jelly which I wished could be a bigger portion, but for a dollar add-on, hey - it's a pretty good deal! It's value-for-money if you are just looking for a quick ramen fix and not too picky on the flavours. On an overall, it was significantly better, but I would still prefer Menya Sanji, Ramen Keisuke Tori King and Suzuki Ramen Bar if I were to recommend ramen places.
